World League 2009 final in Serbia
July 2, 2020 | News | No Comments
Final tournament of World League 2009 will host Serbia. The final round will take place from July 22-26 at the Belgrade Arena in Serbia's capital.
The venue also hosted the event in 2005. Serbia beat out tough competition from USA and China to host the grand finale.
The final round will be contested by the automatically qualified host team, the four top-ranked teams from the Intercontinental Round pools and a wild card chosen by the FIVB.
The FIVB world league council in September chose Argentina and the Netherlands to replace Spain and Egypt in the 2009 edition of the annual men's competition.
The other teams set to take part in the 16-team competition are the Serbians, runners-up in 2008, last year's winners USA, eight-time champions Italy, seven-time winners Brazil, Poland, Finland, Venezuela, China, Russia, Japan, Cuba, Bulgaria, France and Korea.
The system of World League remain the same. The top-ranked team in each pool qualifies for the Final Round. The host team automatically qualifies for the Final Round, together with one wild-card team designated by the FIVB. If the host team for the Final Round is ranked first in its pool, the second-ranked team in this pool will qualify for the Final Round.
