WWE NXT Results – March 6th, 2019

July 5, 2020 | News | No Comments

NXT this week officially kicked off the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament. The tournament will continue but with NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa set to miss months of in-ring time due to a neck injury, it should be interesting to see how his injury is addressed. Remember that it was only last week when it was confirmed that #DIY will reunite to take part in the tag tournament. That should be addressed very soon, but for now, NXT starts off with a video package featuring each team talking about why they plan on winning the the tag team tournament this year.
Ricochet & Aleister Black vs. Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner –
After teaming up together on the main roster, Ricochet and Aleister Black decided to do the same for this tournament. This is the first match in the Dusty Classic this year, so the winning team here will then move on to the next round. They faced NXT UK’s Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel.

Aichner and Black started the match off. The two European stars locked up, but Aichner got the better of Black and took him down. Barthel comes in next but gets kicked around by the former NXT Champion. Black goes for a dive off the middle turnbuckle but gets caught by a European uppercut from Barthel for a two count.
Now Aichner has returned. He and Aichner took turns tagging in and out as dishes out punches in the corner on Black. Aichner tried to wear Black down in the center of the ring as Ricochet was desperate to get the tag. Ricochet distracted Aichner temporarily, which allowed Black to sweep his leg and tag in Ricochet.
Ricocher runs wild on Aichner and Barthel with standing shooting star presses and tons of aerial moves. He goes up to the top rope, but Barthel catches him with a step-up enzuigiri. Barthel took out Black while Aichner went for the pin on Ricochet, but that want enough to get the job done. Ricochet dropkicked the Italian wrestler and went to do a dive outside of the ring, but Barthel kicked him as he bounced off the ropes. This was nearly enough to end Ricochet and Black’s chances in the tournament.
Both Europeans hit punches on Ricochet until he tried fighting off the men. Black came back in next and hit a double knee strike on Barthel. They then hit dropkicks on Black simultaneously as he was caught in the tree of woe. Black recovered, hit a double knee stomp, capbrada, some strikes, then capped it off with the Black Mass kick to move forward in the tournament.

Winner: Ricochet & Aleister Black
Moustache Mountain were shown preparing for their tournament match backstage. They had a brief stare down with NXT Tag Team Champions The War Raiders.
Highlights of last week’s match between Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic were shown. The match disappointingly ended in a double countout, but that may not be the end of this feud. Dijakovic was shown barging in the Performance Center while Keith Lee was training. It was clear that he wanted another match with a decisive winner being named this time. The rematch was announced for NXT in two weeks.

The Forgotten Sons vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch –
Another first round Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic match here. Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake wrestled tonight while Ryker watched ringside. They faced the always hard-hitting team of Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. Burch and Cutler started the match off and it did not take long for them to start laying in the chops.
Oney Lorcan comes in and tries to take down Cutler, but the latter makes the tag over to Blake. The Forgotten Sons worked together to hit Lorcan in their corner of the ring. Cutler then hit a backbreaker for a two count on Lorcan. Both men took turns dishing out all that they had on Oney Lorcan while refusing to let the man move even one inch closer to Burch. Lorcan eventually got out a sleeper hold and ducked a clothesline before dashing over to tag in Burch.
Burch reentered and took down Cutler. He quickly made the tag to Lorcan, which may have marked their downfall. Lorcan was clearly still hurt and could not help his partner our. Still, he eventually got the courage to hit a dive outside of the ring on Blake. Back in the ring, Cutler hit him for a two count and then locked him in a Boston Crab. Fortunately, Burch ran back in the ring and broke up the submission attempt. Burch was tagged back in afterwards and tried to compete all on his own. Double knees from Blake was not enough to make Burch give up the fight.
Lorcan is tagged in next, who laid out both of his opponents with several loud and brutal chops. Spike DDT from Burch. Nope! That doesn’t put away the Forgotten Sons. Lorcan tries to launch himself into Blake but the former NXT Tag Team Champion catches him and throws him into Cutler, who was sitting on top of one of the ring posts in the corner. They hit a combo DDT to win and earn one of their biggest NXT victories yet.
Winners: The Forgotten Sons
Suddenly, Then Velveteen Dream came down to the announcer’s table area and stood on top of the table for the audience to see. Dream won the North American Championship a couple weeks back, so he had a lot to celebrate. He issued a reminder that he is indeed the newest titleholder in NXT. Before he could speak anymore, out came Matt Riddle. Riddle said that he only came out to say hello and congratulate him on winning his championship. Of course, this wasn’t entirely accurate. Riddle said that he couldn’t help but wonder how Dream’s title would look around his waist. Dream snapped his fingers for the spotlight. He said that he doesn’t share the spotlight with anyone. Simple as that.
Io Shirai and Kairi Sane sat down for an interview. Shirai said that Bianca Belair is good, but she has never beaten Shayna Baszler before. Shirai does have a visual pinfall over Baszler. She promised to defeat Bianca Belair next week and then go on to win the NXT Women’s Championship from Baszler after that.
The Street Profits vs. Moustache Mountain –
Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins are still beloved by the Full Sail crowd, but they have made it clear that they want to start winning in NXT. They faced NXT UK’s Trent Seven and Tyler Bate. Both of these teams know how to put on both entertaining and aggressive bouts, but only one team can move on to the second round of the tournament.
Ford takes down Bate, but he takes it right back to the Street Profits member. They went back and fourth exchanging holds in the middle of the ring. Dawkins is able to get the tag and mow down Bate for a quick one count. Step-up enzuigiri from Bate before he tags in Trent Seven. Dawkins hits an uppercut on Seven before he dragged him into the Profits’ corner of the ring.
Ford is tagged in as he and Dawkins hit kicks on Seven in the corner. Ford goes back to applying holds. Seven was later able to get himself back up to his feet and tag in Bate. However, Dawkins is tagged in at the same time. Bate goes right after the bigger man with kicks and a standing shooting star press for a near fall. Seven held Dawkins as Bate ricocheted off the ropes to hit a clothesline on him, but Dawkins fought out of the hold and hit both men. Another two count there.
All four men are all over the place until Seven is taken out of the equation due to a dive from Ford. Back in the ring, Ford hits a frog splash for another two count. Bate gets Dawkins up for a German Suplex. Seven holds him up on his shoulders and Bate stomps on his opponent, which is just the move that was necessary to end The Street Profits’ chances of winning the tournament.
Winners: Moustache Mountain
#DIY vs. The Undisputed Era –
It is really happening! Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano are back together. They had tough competition ahead of them though as they faced Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly in the final match in the first round of the tournament. Of course, The Undisputed Era were the winners of last year’s tournament, so anybody could walk out of this one as the winners. Before #DIY made their way down to the ring, Ciampa had their old tag team entrance music and entrance video play.
Gargano and Fish locked up and went at it when the bell rang. Fish tried to go for Gargano’s leg, but Johnny fought out of it early on. O’Reilly is tagged in at the first sign of trouble. He and Fish worked together and tagged in and out to hurt Gargano. They tried some double team moves but Gargano made the tag to Ciamoa in the melee. Gargano dove onto Fish outside of the ring while the NXT Champion took care of O’Reilly. When Gargano came back in, Fish sweeper his legs on the apron to take him out of the matter.
O’Reilly tried to lock in a kneebar, but Gargano would not allow the maneuver to be applied. Fish came in and dishes out some blows in the corner of the ring. O’Reilly grabbed “Johnny Wrestling” and the latter began to fight back temporarily. When Fish wa tagged back in, that was quickly stopped though.
Bobby Fish put a body scissors on the former NXT North American Champion. Gargano Fire back with a chop before O’Reilly was tagged back in. Fortunately, Gargano had enough momentum to fight off both men. He struggled to make the tag Tommaso Ciampa, but Fish removed the champion from the apron. When he got back on, Johnny did end up making the tag.
Ciampa went right to O’Reilly and hit running knees in the former NXT Tag Team Champion. A Tower of London from Ciampa nearly ended the match.  A series of German Suplexes from Ciampa and a Blue Thunder Bomb scored the champion a two count. Gargano was tagged in after this. He dove off the ropes but landed right in the guillotine attempt from O’Reilly. Back on his feet, both men traded punches until simultaneous clothesline’s forced them into a stalemate.
Tommaso Ciampa is tagged back in. He and Bobby Fish went at it on the apron with each man trying to gain the advantage. They went up to the top turnbuckle as Gargano tried fighting off O’Reilly. Fish sent Ciampa down and splashed on him before O’Reilly followed suit. Running knee outside of the ring from O’Reilly on Ciampa eventually led to Ciampa tricking him into landing in the Spike DDT. Gargano hits a slingshot spear for a two count. Both men can’t believe that the match isn’t over yet. They decided to use the only maneuver left in their arsenal: The old #DIY double running knee strike. That does it! The Undisputed Era are done in this tournament and #DIY will be moving on… for now.
 Winners: #DIY
After the match, NXT Tag Team Champions Rowe and Hanson step onto the stage and hold up their titles. The War Raiders were sending a message to Ciampa and Gargano that they are not worried about them. Remember that the winners of the tournament also earn a shot at the tag team titles at NXT Takeover: New York. This tactic of intimidation still did not seem to bother #DIY though as both men wore huge smiles as they celebrated their victory over The Undisputed Era. That put an end to this week’s episode of the show.
Ciampa and Gargano may be reunited and moving onto the second round, but it is clear now that they won’t be winning the tournament. Most of this year’s tournament was taped weeks ago, which is why Ciampa competed here despite being injured right now. #DIY could lose the second round or they will have to vacate their spot in the tournament. Other that that, the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament is already over. #DIY, Moustache Mountain, The Forgotten Sons, and the team of Aleister Black & Ricochet are still involved. The semi-finals will begin on NXT week’s show. See you NXT time!
