One of the most unexpected announcements of the year came as early as January when WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced that he will be resurrecting the XFL, which had been his defunct football league that previously shut down back in 2001. McMahon confirmed that the league will be coming back under the XFL name, and that it should be fully operational by the year 2020. McMahon announced that the XFL would be coming back through his Alpha Entertainment company, which is an endeavor that the former WWE Champion has stated is completely and entirely separate from WWE. Some news on WWE’s role in building up the XFL’s revival has now just been revealed.
According to a report from PWInsider, WWE is now listed an an minority owner of Alpha Entertainment, LLC. WWE previously had ownership over the XFL name and trademarks, but those rights have been exchanged for minority stakes in the league’s planned 2020 revival. McMahon originally announced that the two companies would be completely separate from each other with very little intermingling taking place between Alpha Entertainment and WWE. Despite his increased involvement in rebuilding the XFL, it has iterated on several different occasions that McMahon will continue to serve as WWE Chairman while running Alpha Entertainment at the same time.
When WWE announced that Lio Rush had signed a deal to join the NXT brand, fans were excited to see what the young superstar would be bringing to the table. Rush has made a few appearances on NXT programming in the past, and he now continues to work on NXT live events. In addition to being a talented wrestler, it looks like Rush is also intending on leaving his mark on the music industry. Rush has revealed that he is collaborating with rapper Troy Andretti for their first single, which is titled “Money Money.” A music video for the song has also been promised. No official confirmation on a date for the song’s release has been given, but Rush’s social media post seem to indicate that it will be out imminently.
