Juice Robinson Accepts Cody Rhodes’ Title Challenge in Heated Exchange; Backstage Comments from G1 Climax Finals (Video)

Sunday night at the historic Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan the “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes sent a message to IWGP United States Champion Juice Robinson, following their tag team match at the 2018 G1 Climax Finals.
After pinning the champion with his new finishing manuever, Din’s Fire, Cody grabbed a microphone and let Juice – who was coming off a grueling four week tour against some of the best heavyweights in the world – know that in no uncertain terms, he was coming for the title.
New Japan Pro Wrestling has since uploaded backstage comments from both Juice and Cody following their tag team match, which you can check out above.
While he has a brand new laundry list of potential contenders, suffering several key losses during this year’s G1 tournament, Robinson accepted the challenge for a future championship match stating that he was a different man than the last time the two wrestlers squared off one-on-one. Their first encounter of course came in Cody’s highly anticipated NJPW debut back at Wrestle Kingdom 11, where Rhodes got the last laugh.
Robinson also took several shots at Cody for being a part-time wrestler listing off the names he competed against in the G1 – names like Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi and Tomohiro Ishii – while the former WWE Superstar was off shooting scenes for the upcoming season of television’s Arrow.
As of now, a date has not been set for Juice to defend the IWGP United States Championship against the “American Nightmare”, although the most likely destination seems to be the upcoming NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed event in Long Beach, CA on 9/30. You can check out THIS LNK for our complete breakdown of New Japan’s fall schedule and a list of potential title matches ahead of January’s Wrestle Kingdom 13.
