With Alcohol Ban In Bihar, People Spend More On Better Food And Expensive Clothes

The prohibition on liquor in Bihar seems to have come as a boon for people, especially women. They are spending the money that was earlier used in buying alcohol to get new clothes, food and expensive sarees. The sale has gone up by 1751 per cent while the consumption of honey by 380 per cent, cheese by 200 per cent in the first six months of the ban, according to the latest studies on the measure.
The studies conducted by reputed think tanks Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) and government-funded knowledge institute Development Management Institute (DMI) said that 19 per cent of the household acquired new assets from money they would waste on liquor.
