BOWIE, MD – A 44-year-old woman from Bowie was leaving her temp job in Greenbelt May 10 when she was gunned down by an unidentified assailant. Further investigation of the case has revealed that the victim, Bettie Jenifer, actually was targeted and had a rather intriguing past.

The Maryland woman happened to be married to two different men at the same time, one who is a convicted Baltimore drug lord, Greenbelt police revealed Sunday. According to the police department, Jenifer was walking to her vehicle when a man carrying a handgun approached her. She tried to flee, but the man pursued and fired multiple rounds at her.

At least one bullet struck her in the head, police reported. The assailant took off in what police believe to be a blue colored car. Jenifer was pronounced deceased on the scene, the police shared on Facebook.

Saturday, police disclosed that Jenifer was married to Ghana TV host and actor Chris Attoh. They had married in October in Ghana. But Jenifer also was married to Kedrick Jenifer, who currently is behind bars serving a 20-year prison sentence for trafficking sizable amounts of cocaine into Baltimore from Texas.

NBC News – Los Angeles revealed that Kedrick Jenifer had filed for divorce April 9. Bettie Jenifer filed for divorce six days later. She lived in a house in his name in Bowie. As of Monday, May 13, police had not named a suspect or motive in the case.
