Maverick’s Herman, Zimmer Place First at Worthington Open

WORTHINGTON, Minn. — Minnesota State had five wrestlers place at the Worthington Open on Saturday.

Chris Zimmer (So., 197 lbs. 3-0) started his tournament off with a 5-4 decision win over Caleb Deemer (SWS). His next match was a 6-2 decision win against Cody Linssen (St. Cloud State). The first-place match came against fellow Maverick Wyatt Running (Fr., 197 lbs. 2-1(Unattached)). Zimmer bested Runing with an 8-2 decision win.

Dylan Herman (Fr., 149 lbs. 4-0 (Unattached)) had to wrestle in four matches for his title at the 149 weight class. Herman recorded two decision wins and two falls on the day. His fastest fall was in 23 seconds.

Tanner Mills (So, 141 lbs. 2-1(Unattached)) placed second and Max Bullock (So., 165 lbs. 2-2) finished fourth.

The Maverick’s next action is on Thursday when they host U-Mary at Taylor Center at 7:00 p.m.
