The lynching of the alleged child lifters in various parts of country has become a phenomenon with over 20 such cases where mob have killed people suspecting them to be child lifters. However, the numbers also suggest that it has gathered storm for a reason as nearly 55,000 children were kidnapped across India in 2016 which is a whopping 30 per cent increase than the previous year.

Is it just fear to lose loved ones?

As per the 2017-18 report for Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), 54,723 children were kidnapped in 2016 but the charge-sheet were filled in only 40.4 per cent of the cases again indicates why people resort to mob justice when they nab a suspected child lifter.
