It is an unprecedented scenes in Delhi and across northern India, people are wearing masks as they venture out of homes, something that till now was a common sight only in winters.

But now in the middle of the hot burning summers, the masks are back, thanks to a dip in air quality. It has become so bad that in many parts of Delhi and NCR, the Air Quality Index is hovering over the 500 mark, which is categorized as “severe” with PM 10 being the primary pollutant.
