Three MSUM Wrestlers Remain Alive at Super Region 3 Tournament

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Three members of the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team remained alive at the Super Region 3 tournament which began Saturday in at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. Junior Blake Bosch advanced to the semifinals at 133 pounds for MSUM while freshman Jared Goldsmith (125) and junior Isaac Novacek (149) remain alive in the consolation bracket of their respective weight classes.
Bosch, ranked No. 2 in the nation at 133, had an opening-round bye, and then followed with a dominant 19-4 technical fall win over Augustana’s David Potratz in the quarterfinals. Bosch will face Matt Paulus of Upper Iowa in the semifinals on Sunday. Bosch is now 29-5 on the year and has won 21 straight matches.
Goldsmith (16-14) went 2-1 at 125 to remain alive in that division. The freshman edged Weston Cronan of Ouachita Baptist, 5-4 in the opening round before losing by technical fall to Jaret Singh of Maryville in the quarterfinals. Goldsmith came back with 6-1 win over Minot State’s Trevor Schultz to advance in the consolation bracket. Goldsmith will face Taylor Curtis of Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday.
Novacek (18-17) beat Mary’s Jakob Weisbrod by a 10-7 decision in the first round before being pinned by John Hagerty of Maryville in the quarterfinals of 4:28. Novacek came back to beat Minot State’s Cody Haugen, 9-3 to remain alive. He will face Damian Penichet in the consolation bracket on Sunday.
Junior Garret Hoffner (157), freshman Adam Blees (165), freshman Austin May (184) and senior Mike Urban (197) all went 1-2 in their respective weight classes but were eliminated in the consolation round.
Redshirt freshman Kristian Vazquez (141), freshman Brayden Kuntz (174) and junior Nader Abdullatif (285) each went 0-2 and were eliminated.
