Le Parisien report this afternoon that Kylian Mbappé has decided to attend tonight’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, following initial indications that the Frenchman was hesitant on going.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward is said to have made his final decision last week but had kept it under wraps with his entourage. Amid the fallout from reports Mbappé wants to leave PSG – which the 23-year-old denied himself after last night’s win over Marseille – his relationship with likely winner Karim Benzema is said to have tipped the balance in favour of his attendance.
Mbappé, who finished ninth in last year’s Ballon d’Or standings, appears to be a doubt for this year’s top five, despite previously indicating he was aiming for a podium finish. Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski and Bayern Munich’s Sadio Mané are expected to finish ahead of him. The attacker will be accompanied by his teammate Nuno Mendes at tonight’s Paris ceremony, with the Portuguese left-back nominated for the Kopa Trophy.
