The Selecao star is linked with a return to the Nou Camp, but the Catalan club’s coach still does not know what will happen

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde remains unsure what will happen with Neymar amid reports the La Liga champions want to sign the Paris Saint-Germain star.

Neymar, 27, is expected to leave PSG this close season, with a return to Barca after in leaving for Paris in 2017 mooted, while a shock switch to Real Madrid has also been rumoured.

Speaking ahead of a friendly with Napoli in Michigan on Saturday, Valverde said he was still uncertain about the Brazil star’s future and he was keen to focus on the players currently in his squad.

“We’ll see what happens. The classic response is that he plays for another team and that’s that,” Valverde told a news conference.

“All I know is that I’m the manager and I only think about the players I have. They are the ones I’ll be using tomorrow.

“As it stands, I don’t know what is going to happen.”

Barca will reportedly include at least one player in a move for Neymar, with Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic among the names mentioned as possible makeweights in a transfer.

Valverde said he could not guarantee Rakitic’s future, but believes he will be able to rely on the Croatia midfielder during the upcoming season if he remains at the club past the September 2 transfer window deadline.

“He is very important for us,” he said.

“His work is there. Right now, I don’t know if he will stay. I count on him as I have.

“In principle, nothing makes me think that I won’t be able to count on him.”

The upcoming Napoli fixture is the second time Barca have faced the Serie A side this week, having won 2-1 in Miami on Wednesday, courtesy of goals from Sergio Busquets and Rakitic.

Saturday’s match is the Blaugrana’s last pre-season clash before their La Liga campaign gets underway with a trip to Athletic Bilbao on August 16.

Their first home game at the Nou Camp will come against Real Betis on August 25.

The Reds’ back-up goalkeeper is likely to play a key role while the Brazilian recovers from injury, and an Anfield team-mate has backed him to succeed

Trent Alexander-Arnold is confident Adrian can fill the void left by Alisson between the sticks for Liverpool over the next few weeks after an encouraging debut.

The Reds picked up a 4-1 win over Norwich City on the opening day of the new Premier League season, but Alisson was forced to withdraw in the first half with a suspected calf injury .

Adrian, who secured a move to Anfield on a free transfer following his release by West Ham, came on for his first appearance in Liverpool colours and performed well against the newly promoted Canaries.

The Spanish shot-stopper was denied a clean sheet when Teemu Pukki netted a 64th-minute consolation goal for the visitors, but he looks set to remain in the starting line-up for upcoming fixtures.

Alisson is likely to miss up to eight weeks of action while he recovers from injury, and Alexander-Arnold is certain Adrian has the qualities to replace the Brazil international for the time being.

“[His experience] is the main thing, he knows what he is doing. He’s played a load of games, so he knows what it is about,” the 20-year-old told the Evening Standard .

“The reception he got [on Friday], I think he feels as though the supporters are already behind him.

“Obviously when a keeper has to come off, it’s never too promising, so yes, I think everyone needs to get their head around [the fact] that he probably will be our keeper for the next few weeks and if so, then we have to live with that, embrace that and I’m sure he will learn from us.

“We will be able to make good connections with him and I think a lot of the lads have made bonds with him already because he’s such a good lad off the pitch.

“He’s a great lad to have around and obviously he is playing now, that is good for him and us.”

Alexander-Arnold provided a superb assist for Divock Origi to score in the win over Norwich, picking up from where he left off last season on the right-hand side of the defence.

An own-goal from Grant Hanley, a Mohamed Salah strike and a Virgil van Dijk header completed the scoring for Liverpool, who now sit third in the Premier League after the first round of matches.

Next up for the Reds is the UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea on Wednesday, and Alexander-Arnold feels a high standard has already been set as the new campaign gets into full swing.

“I think the lads are back and they have hit the ground running. It’s good for us to have them back and in-form straight away,” he added.

“Obviously Virg popping up with a goal again shows that this season will hopefully replicate last season with everyone chipping in with goals and hopefully the attackers don’t feel that it is just them that need to produce the goals and it is a team effort.

“So yes, I think, so far so good and of course it’s still early days, but it is good to set the standard we have today.”

Martial handed Lukaku's No. 9 at Manchester United

September 7, 2019 | News | No Comments

The Frenchman will get his old number back after the Belgian departed for Inter on deadline day

Anthony Martial has retaken the No. 9 shirt that he wore in his first season with Manchester United.

Ahead of the new season, the Red Devils announced their squad numbers for 2019-20 and the French attacker has taken over the number typically reserved for a club’s top-choice striker.

That could be a sign of things to come, with Martial having taken up the role more often in the club’s pre-season during Romelu Lukaku’s absence.

Lukaku, who wore the No. 9 previously, completed an €80 million (£74m/$90m) move to Inter on Thursday and was promptly handed the same jersey number at San Siro.

Martial wore the No. 9 during his first season at Old Trafford, following his move in 2015 from Monaco.

The France international took on the No. 11 the following season after Zlatan Ibrahimovic arrived at the club and took over the No. 9 shirt.

Martial, 23, scored 12 goals in all competitions in 2018-19 and will look to improve on those numbers this term as he moves into a more prominent role spearheading United’s attack.

The France international scored 18 goals in all competitions in 2015-16, his first season with United, a figure that he has yet to top in the subsequent three seasons.

United are looking to bounce back this season after a tumultuous campaign last year saw them sack Jose Mourinho in December and then finish in sixth place under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

With Solskjaer having been handed the reins on a permanent basis, the Red Devils looked to retool their squad in the summer.

The club made three major signings in the recently-closed transfer window: Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace, Daniel James from Swansea City and Harry Maguire from Leicester City.

Wan-Bissaka will wear the No. 29 at United this season, with James taking the No. 21 shirt and Maguire the No. 5.

Following a successful loan spell at Aston Villa last term, defender Axel Tuanzebe will wear the No. 38 as he looks to establish himself at Old Trafford this season.

United will begin their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Chelsea visiting in a high-profile season-opening clash.

The striker, a free agent after being let go by the Irons at the end of last season, has returned to Tyneside after eight years away from the club

Newcastle United have confirmed that forward Andy Carroll will be returning to his hometown club after eight injury-hit years away from Tyneside.

Carroll left St. James’s Park for Liverpool in 2011 before moving to West Ham. He was released by the London club at the end of last season.

The England international himself took to Twitter to announce the deal, saying “I’m Coming Home”, and said Newcastle was the “only club for him” after the deal was announced.

“It feels very good [to move back],” the 30-year-old told the club’s official website.

“My friends and family are here, and it’s the club I support – it is home.

“I enjoyed the time I spent here, and hopefully I can carry on where I left off. When I left eight-and-a-half years ago, I was scoring goals and I was enjoying my football. It’s been a pretty tough time since then, and I just want to get back to that.

“I know it’s home. I’ve played here, I’ve spoken to the fans, I am a fan, and my family is here. For me to get back where I was I think this is the only club for me.”

Carroll joins fellow new signings Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin, Jetro Willems and Emil Krafth as new faces for Steve Bruce in his first season with the club since replacing Rafael Benitez in the off-season.

The manager welcomed the striker back to the club, pointing to his potential on the field, as well as his connection to the community.

“To bring a local hero like Andy back to Newcastle United is fantastic. He is very excited to be home,” the manager, who moved to Newcastle from Sheffield Wednesday in July, said.

“He is a big physical threat in the opposition box and another great option for us at the top end of the pitch.

“He gives us something different to what we already have and we’ll do our best to get him flying again.”

Carroll has been plagued by injury in a career that saw him win nine England caps, making his debut for his country two months before moving to Liverpool.

He signed for the Hammers after scoring just 11 goals in 58 games for the Reds over three seasons.

He went on to bag 34 goals in 142 appearances in east London, before being cut loose, paving the way for a return home.

Shearer slams Arsenal's 'Sunday League' defending

The Gunners’ frailties at the back were exposed on Sunday in the North London derby despite them battling back for a draw from 2-0 down

Arsenal’s recent defensive displays against Tottenham and Liverpool have been labelled as ‘Sunday League’ and even worse than last season by Alan Shearer.

The Gunners have conceded five goals across their past two Premier League games losing 3-1 to the Reds before being forced to come from 2-0 down on Sunday to hold Spurs to a 2-2 draw.

Despite signing two defenders over the summer, with Chelsea’s David Luiz starting against Tottenham, Unai Emery’s backline continues to struggle having conceded 51 goals last season – more than top two Manchester City and Liverpool let in combined.

Former Newcastle striker Shearer declared the Gunners’ defence has only gotten worse over the off-season and that it will be a major issue for the club.

“Arsenal’s defending was comical at times in the first half – it was Sunday League stuff,” Shearer wrote in The Sun.

“From start to finish, it was embarrassing how easy it was for Tottenham to get their two first-half goals.

“If anything, Arsenal are worse now than they were last season. Kieran Tierney is yet to come in but on this evidence they certainly haven’t improved defensively. I see that as being an issue for Arsenal again going forward – a big problem.”

Despite taking advantage of the Gunners’ defensive frailties in the first-half, Spurs would surrender their 2-0 lead in the second 45 minutes at the Emirates as their winless run extended to three matches.

Shearer of the belief that both Tottenham and Arsenal will be forced to really battle it out for a spot in the top four with the title race already down to two teams.

“They (Spurs) look very reliant on Kane’s goals but I still think they will be fighting for a place in the top four,” Shearer wrote.

“In Eriksen they had someone who could put their foot on the ball and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will be delighted that the European transfer window is coming to an end.

“Spurs and Arsenal will be among four sides fighting for Champions League places who all have issues.

“Manchester City and Liverpool are a million miles ahead of the rest.”

As it stands, Arsenal sit fifth and Tottenham ninth in the Premier League with Liverpool top of the table, five points clear of the Gunners and seven ahead of Spurs after just four games.

UK consumers have an affinity for buying clothes on mobile devices,
averaging six hours per week researching and purchasing fashion online, as
reported by the Business of Fashion. This event aimed to bring back the
human interaction and the tactile experience of touching in the shopping
process, which helps to reduce returns and disposal of garments, says the
organisers from #LoveNotLandfill in a statement.

pop-up experience.

Adwoa Owusu Darko, who is @minisworld on the depop platform, said she
has been a seller on Depop for three years, inspired by the community. “A
bit of my creativity and my personality is being worn by someone else.
Buying preloved is an easy way to reduce waste – I’ve been making more of a
conscious effort to educate my buyers and change my processes to be more
sustainable too.”

Depop is a fashion marketplace app, and a creative platform where people
can buy, sell and discover fashion items. It currently serves about 13
million people. #LoveNotLandfill is a campaign targeting young Londoners to
reduce waste in fashion. It is supported by EU Life and is part of the
European Clothing Action Plan (ECAP).

The Camp Nou coach did not get in touch with the midfielder after he joined Celta Vigo during the close season, the former Arsenal loanee has claimed

Denis Suarez claims he did not receive any messages from Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde following his move to Celta Vigo.

The 25-year-old joined Celta during the close season in a deal worth a reported €13 million (£12m/$15m), plus a further €3m in bonuses, after struggling to hold down a starting spot in his three years at Camp Nou.

Suarez was offered the chance to link up with Marcelino at Valencia but instead opted for a return to Celta, where he started his career before heading to Manchester City in 2011.

“Marcelino was constantly calling me to tell me how the situation was,” he told Cadena SER. “I was willing to give up many things to go to Valencia, but I rejected his offer because they wanted me to give up many more things.”

Asked if he had spoken to Valverde since leaving Camp Nou, Suarez said: “Valverde has sent me zero messages. Marcelino? He wished me luck, yes.”

Suarez endured a frustrating spell on loan with Arsenal in the second half of last season, a pelvic injury restricting him to six appearances in all competitions.

A return to Galicia offers the Spain international an opportunity to get his career back on track, however, and he hopes to repay the faith shown in him.

“I always thought about going back one day and this year it has been possible,” he said. “I really want to play after last season in which I had a lot of injuries. The club has changed a lot since I left.

“What I want is to enjoy football again and since I arrived in Vigo I feel happy. Here I see how my team-mates, club people, fans want you to feel important. I hope to return that trust.”

Celta open up their La Liga campaign with a home match against Real Madrid on Saturday, while Barcelona face Athletic Bilbao at San Mames on Friday.

The Liverpool manager admitted that his decision to start the 26-year-old on the wing against Chelsea was a mistake

Jurgen Klopp praised Roberto Firmino’s unique qualities as he admitted starting Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the UEFA Super Cup win over Chelsea was a mistake.

Oxlade-Chamberlain started on the left of a front three in Istanbul, but was replaced by Brazil international Firmino at half-time on Wednesday.

The former Arsenal midfielder only made his return from a serious knee injury in April and is still working his way back after an impressive start to life at Liverpool, who claimed a 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory following a 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

Klopp admitted his decision to start Oxlade-Chamberlain was an error, however backed the 32-time England international to find his best form once more.

“I didn’t say a lot to Ox, I don’t think it was necessary. For Ox it was very important to have these minutes, it’s a position he can play,” he told a news conference.

“He can play much better than he did but that’s how it is and after a long injury you have to find back the rhythm. In training it’s already there and now in the game he had good moments but of course not enough for his quality.

“It was not about that. I knew it was a very, very intense game so it was clear that we have to make that decision because we didn’t want to push him through, we want to give him the opportunity to perform, to shine if you want.

“In that position and the circumstances it was obviously not as possible as we would have wished, but that’s then my mistake and not his mistake because I made the decision.”

Firmino had a huge impact after being introduced, setting up Sadio Mane’s equaliser and the attacker’s extra-time goal, which was cancelled out by a Jorginho penalty.

Klopp hailed the Brazil forward and while he insisted there was depth in the central attacking position, the German admitted Firmino played the role like no-one else.

“Bobby Firmino is pretty vital, but Sadio Mane can play that position as well. Divock Origi played in that position really well,” he said.

“They are all different, they all have different strengths, but I think for tonight when the opponent kind of learns from the game and gets used to what you do, then it’s important that you can make a change and it was a big change because Bobby is different to all other players in the world, probably, in that position and it helped us a lot.

“For him, it was really, really intense. It was not the plan that he plays around 80 minutes, now he had to play it. You saw it was hard for him, he had pretty much no pre-season and played after one week. That was the problem for us a little bit, it’s our third competitive game where we had to throw in everything to be on top of it after the pre-season we had.

“We know that we have to improve a lot of things, but a lot of things were good … we can play and we will play better football but for tonight it was only about winning and we did that. We found again a way to win the game – and that’s big, really big, it feels incredibly big and I’m really happy about that.”

The Spaniard tasted glory with the Reds in only his second game, and came out on top between the posts when he saved Tammy Abraham’s effort

Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has admitted that would have gladly slept with the Super Cup after Liverpool’s penalty shoot-out success against Chelsea in Istanbul.

The Spaniard, making only his second appearance for the club since arriving on a free transfer, proved to be the hero between the posts when he blocked Tammy Abraham’s effort to hand the Reds victory.

Drafted into action following an injury to regular shot-stopper Alisson, the 32-year-old had the distinct honour of helping Jurgen Klopp’s side claim their second piece of silverware in three months in his first start for the club.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the former West Ham man expressed his joy at picking up his first ever winners’ medal and said that James Milner joked that the ‘keeper should take the trophy home.

“After just one week, I played in the Super Cup and got this great feeling,” he stated. “I felt full of happiness in myself.

“I was having dinner with the guys after the game and I spoke with Millie and he said, ‘OK, do you want to take the trophy with you?’.

“I said, ‘I will sleep with her, I’m more than happy to sleep with her!’.”

“We are playing football to live these kind of moments, great moments. Obviously, like life, you can have good and bad moments in your career.

“But we need to enjoy these kind of games and these kinds of moments. You need to enjoy it with your family, best friends, with fans, with the team-mates. And also change the mentality like, ‘Nothing is done, we need to keep playing’.”

The ex-Betis man also made reference to manager Klopp’s euphoric exclamation of his name in his post-match interview, where the German bellowed his keeper’s name in the style of character Rocky Balboa, who memorably shouted the same phrase to his wife Adrian at the end of the 1976 film Rocky.

“In my time at West Ham many people called me like this,” he added. “My name is funny to do this joke.

“The manager was great in that moment. Everyone was happy, smiling in that situation and the manager had a great moment.

Following incidents in a trio of recent Liverpool games, Goal takes a look at what the perpetrators of such incidents can expect

Following an injury to Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian caused by a pitch invader following the UEFA Super Cup final, there has been a great deal of publicity on the subject.

With spectators having also entered the pitch during the Champions League final and the Community Shield match between the Reds and Manchester City at Wembley, it is a topic that has particularly piqued Jurgen Klopp.

“You see a man with his d*** swinging around. Who wants to see that?!” he said during a press conference in the aftermath of the incident.

“What can I say? There is no doubt about how much we love our fans, but if they could all stop doing that because that’s the worst example I have heard about.

“It’s not funny. I like that we don’t have fences in stadiums but that means a lot of responsibility for supporters as well.

“If one supporter cannot hesitate or stop himself, then supporters around him should do it. It’s not funny. It’s crazy. How can something like this happen?”

Is invading a football pitch against the law?

In the United Kingdom, it very definitely is.

The Football (Offences) Act 1991 states: “It is an offence for a person at a designated football match to go onto the playing area, or any area adjacent to the playing area to which spectators are not generally admitted, without lawful authority or lawful excuse (which shall be for him to prove).”

What is the punishment for invading the pitch?

In England and Wales, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has advised that persons in breach of the above law be charged with more general legislation if possible. This allows the court more flexibility in terms of its sentencing power, potentially even allowing them to put unruly fans into prison.

Football-related offences, such as invading the pitch, being drunk at a designated sporting event and having a flare or firework while trying to enter a ground, are non-imprisonable.

Meanwhile, courts will very likely give convicted offenders a football banning order (FBO).

On the Sentencing Council’s website, it details: “The court must make a football banning order where an offender has been convicted of a relevant offence and it is satisfied that there are reasonable grounds to believe that making a banning order would help to prevent violence or disorder (Football Spectators Act 1989, s.14A).

“The order requires the offender to report to a police station within five days, may require the offender to surrender his or her passport, and may impose requirements on the offender in relation to any regulated football matches.”

Such offences do not need to have taken place at the ground, with fans who are drunk and disorderly on route to the stadium, for example, also being subject to FBOs.

Click Here: gws giants guernsey 2019

FBOs, which can even be granted in the case of an acquittal after trial, can last for between two and 10 years, although the length of the ban will reflect the seriousness of the event.

What does having a Football Banning Order (FBO) mean?

Offenders are banned from every football ground in the UK and are not eligible to go to the national team’s matches – even those played abroad. Indeed, it may be that fans are forced to hand their passports into the police station for such occasions or told to report to a police station on the day of the game.

Furthermore, they can be banned from using public transport on matchdays and prevented from going to certain places like town and city centres, railways stations and pubs and bars during certain hours.

Specific conditions can be imposed on a case-by-case basis.

Breaching the terms of an FBO means that offenders can be fined and sentenced to prison for up to six months.
