The Argentine star will miss another La Liga clash after he was unable to take part in the team’s final session before the match

Lionel Messi has been ruled out of Barcelona’s match with Real Betis on Sunday after missing their final training session.

Messi has been working his way back from a calf injury sustained after returning late to the Barca pre-season following his efforts with Argentina in the Copa America.

He was not ready in time for Barca’s opener against Athletic Club, which saw a late goal from Aritz Aduriz deliver a surprise 1-0 defeat to the Liga champions.

With Barca looking to bounce back from that defeat, and with Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele nursing injuries, there was hope Messi would be ready to return to the lineup against Betis.

However, the Barca talisman will be missing again after he did not take part in full training Saturday and was not include in the squad list for the game.

While he took part in some sessions during the week, Messi was not among the squad on the eve of the clash at Camp Nou. He was also not training with the injured players during the public session available to media.

In his earlier news conference, Barca head coach Ernesto Valverde had reiterated the club’s stance they would not take any risks with their talisman and pointed to training as key to seeing if he would feature against Betis.

“We won’t take any risk with Messi,” Valverde said. “We must wait to see him in the training session to check if he is ready.”

The star man has not featured in any match since Argentina’s third-place contest against Chile in the Copa America, which featured Messi picking up a red card.

The Argentine’s absence leaves a massive gap in their attack, which has also been hampered by other injuries to key players.

Messi scored 36 Liga goals last season and added 13 assists as he helped guide the club to yet another league title.

They also be without Dembele, who is sidelined five weeks with a hamstring problem, and Suarez, who came off in the first half of the defeat against Athletic with a calf injury.

The Reds went back to the top of the Premier League on Saturday but one of their star forwards wasn’t happy…

Jordan Henderson insisted there was no issue between Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah after Liverpool’s victory at Burnley.

The Reds returned to the top of the Premier League with a convincing 3-0 win at Turf Moor on Saturday, recording a club-record 13th straight league success in the process.

All looks rosy at Anfield, though it was surprising to see an angry reaction from Mane when he was substituted for Divock Origi late in the game.

The Senegal star had been incensed by Salah’s refusal to pass the ball to him moments earlier, with the Egyptian instead looking to get on the scoresheet himself.

Mane berated first-team fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer after being withdrawn, and was seen in heated conversation with his team-mates, including Henderson and vice-captain James Milner.

Klopp played down the row in his post-match press conference, saying the situation was “completely fine.”

Mane himself opted not to speak to the waiting media, emerging from the Turf Moor dressing room with headphones in. But later Henderson, his club captain, sought to draw a line under the affair.

“Sadio is fine, he’s a great lad,” Henderson told reporters. “That’s just us pushing each other all the time. I think that’s important.

“We all want to do better, we all want to improve, but we’re really close and I think we can deal with that.

“I’m not sure [what caused it] to be honest. I couldn’t really understand at first, but then when he came in, he was laughing and joking.”

Asked if there had been any further issue in the dressing room, Henderson said: “Nah, the most important thing was we got the result, Sadio knows that.

“He performed really well again. Him and Bobby were really big [at winning] second balls. He had a fantastic game. Like I said, we want to push each other.

“We want to improve all the time, I quite like that now and again. I think we need it.”

Reflecting on yet another victory, and a performance of some authority at a tough away ground, Henderson was upbeat as expected.

He did, though, sound a note of caution when it was suggested his team were “setting the standards” for the rest of the Premier League.

“We’re not setting them for anyone else, we’re setting them for ourselves,” he said. “That’s what we want to do. We want to win every week, we want to perform every week and that’s difficult because there are so many good sides in the Premier League and in Europe. It’s really hard.

“For us, it’s game by game. We come up against different tests each week and it’s about giving everything every time we go onto the football pitch and we’ll see where we are at the end of the season.

“For me it’s just about concentrating on what we need to do. We have been very mature in our performances, especially away from home. We want to continue that form, keep doing the right things, keep working hard as a team. If we do that, we can put on performances like that.”

Of the Burnley performance, he added: “I thought we did the dirty bits really well. We worked extremely hard defensively to win second balls, which is important against Burnley.

“The two strikers are really physical, but I thought we coped with them really well. Going forward we looked good at times and scored some brilliant goals. It was a really good performance.”

Henderson also paid tribute to striker Roberto Firmino, whose goal at Turf Moor saw him become the first Brazilian to reach 50 in the Premier League.

“He’s a massive player for us,” he said. “It’s extraordinary what he does for the team, defensively, goals, assists, everything, his link-up play. What a player he is. He’s on fire at the minute, so hopefully he can keep going.

“He’s the first Brazilian to 50 and hopefully there are many more to come from him.”

Pep Guardiola watched his first-choice centre-back stretchered off in the Premier League win over Brighton, with the Brazilian coming on in his place

Fernandinho says he is ready to step up and fill in for Aymeric Laporte at centre-back for Manchester City, after the Frenchman was stretchered off in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Brighton.

After the exit of Vincent Kompany over the summer, City have been left looking short-staffed at the hearth of defence with John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi the only specialist centre-backs left in the first-team picture.

Making his first appearance of the season, Fernandinho came on against the Seagulls at centre-back – a role he has occupied before. With Rodri adapting quickly to life in the Premier League, the Brazilian find himself slotting into defence for an extended spell – but his first thought was for his injured team-mate.

“Of course it’s not good,” he told City’s website. “We’ll see the news about him, we wish him a speedy recovery and to get well soon because he’s an important player for us. It wasn’t the way I wanted to come in, but in football these things can happen.

“Whatever the manager needs, I’m ready. It’s a different position, a different role now, and we’ll see. Getting ready for the next games, I’ll try to do my best as always.

“We’re going to try and fix it, not to concede the chances we conceded today. For the next games, for the rest of the season. It was good, it was ok.”

Fernandinho is used to being moved around by Pep Guardiola, having filled in as a more than capable centre-half in the past. He played there in a home fixture against Arsenal last season, which City won 3-1, and has trained in the position since returning from his summer break.

While Fernandinho might not be the tallest player, his replacement in midfield, Rodri, helpfully provides the added height in the team that the Brazilian lacks.

Regardless, the injury to Laporte has come at an awkward time for the side. After starting in all but three of City’s league and Champions League games last season, the Frenchman – who had been set to make his France debut over the international break – will be sorely missed.

City return to Premier League action against Norwich City after the break, before the fixtures start to pile up with games in Europe and the Carabao Cup.

Guardiola will be looking for a way to keep his squad fresh as they face six games in 18 games, including Champions League group stage fixtures with Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb.

Rooney has second game added to red-card ban

September 6, 2019 | News | No Comments

The forward’s sending-off against the New York Red Bulls will cost him two full matches, with one game having been served already

Wayne Rooney’s MLS regular season schedule has just four matches remaining in it, with the English forward set to miss a second-straight game following a red card against the New York Red Bulls.

Rooney was caught delivering a forearm shiver to the face of Cristian Casseres Jr following a VAR review in a 2-1 loss to the Red Bulls on August 21.

He was absent from the club’s next game, a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Philadelphia Union last Saturday, and the MLS Disciplinary Committee took the decision to suspend for a second match on Tuesday due to violent conduct.

The 33-year-old, who is set to return to England to join up with Derby County after the MLS season, will now miss out on the club’s match Saturday against the Montreal Impact.

Saturday’s showdown could prove critical for both clubs, with United holding a five-point lead over the eighth-placed Impact, who currently sit as the first team out of the MLS playoff race.

Rooney and company also face a daunting closing run to the season as they look to hang onto their place in the post-season.

With away matches against the Portland Timber and Red Bulls still on tap, along with a home clash against the Seattle Sounders, a place in the MLS playoffs is anything but sure.

Following the announcement that he would be leaving the club after the season, Rooney made it clear that he wanted to end his time with United by lifting an MLS trophy.

“I think it’d be disrespectful to them if I didn’t finish the season and try to help get us into a playoff spot and try to win a trophy,” Rooney said at the time.

That job is looking tougher now, and United will need their star man to return in fine form to help keep their hopes of challenging for a title alive.

Rooney has scored 11 goals and added seven assists across 25 appearances for United so far this season, just one goal shy of the 12 he posted in 20 games during his first season for the club.

Wen Pan wins Fashion Scout’s Merit Award for spring/summer 2020

Wen Pan is a London-based womenswear label launched in 2018 and now in
its third season. The brand fuses the “spirit of oriental recluses with
romantic grunge aesthetics”. By using raw fluidity and layers of textures,
Wen Pan, who graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2015, aims to “evoke
characters in a balance of subtlety and freedom,” explains Fashion Scout.

In previous seasons, the brand has explored the beauty of brokenness,
traces of human presence, Chinese ancient recluses and the 1990 grunge. For
spring/summer 2020, Wen Pan will return with contrasting floral prints and
textures, mixing fragile linen layers and sheer silk fabrics with rough
cotton drapery and asymmetric cutting. As well as a continuation of using
utility wear with workwear detailing in a palette of muted greens and faded
sandy cream.

Having shown previously in Shanghai and Paris, Wen Pan boasts a global
stockist list including Opening Ceremony, YoungBritishDesigners, and
Selfridges, where her autumn/winter 2019 work is currently part of the
Design Gallery Installation.

Before launching her namesake label, Pan work at numerous fashion houses
including Christopher Kane, Alexander McQueen, and Uma Wang.

Wen Pan to showcase during London Fashion Week

On hearing she had won the Merit Award, Wen Pan said in a statement: “It
is such an honour to receive the Fashion Scout Merit Award. I feel very
grateful to have this great opportunity, which provides a wonderful
platform to share my point of view about beauty and femininity: a delicate
balance between prettiness and roughness.”

Wen Pan’s “relaxed layered aesthetic” is what impressed the Fashion
Scout judging panel, which included the talent platform’s founder and
creative director Martyn Roberts, Contanza Lombardi, Next Gen Buyer at
Browns, Niamph Tuft from Fashion Revolution and Hannah Craggs, trends at
WGSN.

Fashion Scout’s Martyn Roberts added: “We are extremely excited to award
Wen Pan the SS20 Merit Award following the exceptional AW19 collection
presented at the Selection Panel. Her brand was an easy decision for the
judging panel to award Merit to, due to her originality and beautiful
draping and pattern cutting skills. Fashion Scout are excited to give Wen
Pan the opportunity to continue building the brand and profile on a global
scale.”

Wen Pan will showcase at Fashion Scout on September 14 in its new London
Fashion Week home, Victoria House, after the platform relaunched after
spending eight years at Freemasons’ Hall. Fashion Scout SS20 will run from
September 13-15.

As per a Buckingham Palace spokesman, the monarch “is feeling under the weather” and has bowed out of a Thursday morning event at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

The queen’s cousin, the Duke of Kent, will stand in her place, attending morning service to celebrate “the 200th Anniversary of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George.”

According to Daily Mail royal correspondent Rebecca English, there is “no cause for alarm” concerning the queen’s health and the rest of her schedule this week is expected to continue as planned.

We recently learned that the queen underwent cataract surgery at some point in May, a fact she expertly hid with the aid of some trendy tiny sunglasses.

We’re wishing Her Majesty a speedy recovery. Everyone needs a breather sometimes—even the Queen of England.

Kelly Ripa won’t be letting trolls ruin her vacation.

The Live with Kelly and Ryan co-host jetted off to Greece for a tropical getaway with husband Mark Consuelos, sharing a sweet selfie to Instagram on Wednesday in which she smiled at the camera as her longtime love gazed at her.

“Something about these Grecian sunsets,” she captioned the shot.

Ripa also added, “oh and viva Mexico,” referencing Team Mexico’s advancement in the World Cup thanks to South Korea’s upset victory over Germany. In her story, Consuelos explained how the soccer team can move on despite losing to Sweden on Wednesday to his confused wife while hanging out on a boat.

The TV personality also shared a spectacular shot of the coastline.

However, the 47-year-old mother of three took some time out from enjoying her vacation to respond to a person who questioned her work ethic in the comment section.

“She’s the only anchor with the whole summer off,” the commenter wrote under the selfie in response to another fan, as captured in a screenshot by Instagram account CommentsByCelebs. “She doesn’t work that hard to begin with.”

Ripa shot back, “I’m not an anchor, Idon’t have the whole summer off, and I work extremely hard. Anything else?”

Ripa and Consuelos are no strangers to online criticism. After the Riverdale actor, 46, shared a photo of his wife in a gold bikini while on a romantic getaway back in March, followers suggested that Ripa should not be wearing a two-piece bathing suit. However, Consuelos swooped in to defend her.

“I wanted to take a couple of days to weigh in. Probably should’ve earlier arguably. But I wanted to be above it. Well, now I’m not. I posted this pic of the woman I most admire. As a playful tribute to my wife who I’m proud of in endless ways,” he wrote in the comments section. “She works extremely hard in her professional life and her commitment to exercise, healthy diet is admirable and the benefits show. Yes she’s wearing a bikini at age 47 and will no doubt wear one for many years to come.”

He also added, “I love you @kellyripa… keep killing it.”

The couple reiterated their surprise when a viewer called in to ask about the incident on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

“It was bizarre, it was like, ‘What else are you supposed to wear at the beach?’ ” Cohen said.

“I don’t know what I’m supposed to wear at the beach,” Ripa added. “I mean I wasn’t in synagogue, I was at the beach, I mean…if you come up with an option let me know.”

Saturday Night Live‘s Pete Davidson put a ring on it, and Ariana Grande couldn’t be happier. The singer took to Twitter to share her excitement about their engagement news, and there were a lot see-no-evil monkey emojis used.

“i love you sm ok bye,” she wrote in between all of the monkey emojis. Short and sweet—just like their relationship so far.

The engagement definitely comes as a surprise since they’ve only been dating for one month. However, they’ve filled a lot of milestones into a short period of time. Since they began dating, there have been tattoos dedicated to their relationship, matching Harry Potter costumes, and now an engagement.

“It’s a recent engagement. They’re just two people who found love quickly and make each other happy all the time. They both started talking about it this past weekend. It’s nothing they’ve been hiding,” a source close to the couple told People.

While it’s obviously a very happy time for the couple, comedian Kathy Griffin has some advice. “Get a pre-nup girl – trust me. Protect that money,” she tweeted in response to Grande’s emoji-filled declaration of love.

So far Davidson has yet to respond, but we’re sure he’s just as over the moon as Grande. Congrats to the couple!

At the end of the statement, Mrs. Trump’s spokeswoman said that the first lady “would be open to visiting the I Promise School in Akron,” a school James recently opened up in his hometown, where attendees will receive free breakfast, lunch and snacks, as well as a free bike, according to Time.

Responding to James’ interview, President Trump wrote on Friday night, “Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon.”

“He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do,” he added.

Seemingly referring to basketball legend Michael Jordan, President Trump wrote, “I like Mike!”

Jordan later responded through his spokesperson. “I support LeBron James. He’s doing an amazing job for his community,” Jordan said, according to CNN.

Days earlier, four-time NBA MVP James explained that “I can’t sit back and say nothing” while he watches President Trump “divide us.”

“You know, we are in a position right now in America where this race thing [has] taken over,” he told Lemon on Monday. “I believe our president is kinda trying to divide us. He is — I don’t want to say kinda. He’s dividing us.”

As an example, James cited the controversy over NFL players kneeling during the national anthem, a movement that started in 2016 by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick as a way to draw attention to the continued oppression of people due to their race in the United States.

President Trump has continued to bring the protests up during his rallies and on Twitter. He’s also threatened to take away tax breaks for the NFL, urging team owners to fine or even fire athletes who “disrespect our flag.”

James has previously voiced his opposition to the president on multiple occasions.

Ahead of the NBA Championships in June, James — who recently signed a $154 million contract with the L.A. Lakers — was one of the athletes who said he wouldn’t accept an invitation to the White House should his now-former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, win. (The Golden State Warriors went on to win the championship.)

James also called Trump a “bum,” adding that “going to the White House was a great honor until you showed up!”

RELATED: Melania Trump Wants You to Know She’s Free to Watch Whatever TV Channel She Pleases

Talking with Lemon on Monday, James spoke openly about how being involved in athletics helped him understand people from different backgrounds.

“Sports [was] the first time I ever was around someone white,” he said. “I got an opportunity to see them and learn about them, and they got an opportunity to learn about me. And we became very good friends. It was always about sport.”

Added James: “Sports has never been something that divides people. It’s always been something that brings someone together.”

Will Lindsay Lohan Even Be On Her New Reality Show?

September 5, 2019 | News | No Comments

Though Lindsay Lohan has happily parted ways with America by all accounts, it seems she’s ready to reacquaint herself with the most quintessentially American tradition of them all: reality television.

MTV is set to produce an unscripted series set at Miss Lohan’s recently opened Mykonos beach club, the aptly named Lohan Beach House.

instagram/lindsaylohan

In a recent interview with The New York Times, the former child star, who now lives primarily in Dubai, sang the praises of her new paparazzi-free life abroad. “It’s the safest place. It’s less demanding,” she said of Dubai. Her new home is a welcome foil to her media-plagued life in America, which she claimed made her “paranoid.”

“You feel like you’re always watching out … It creates this paranoia in your head that’s not necessary,” she said.

Lohan, who left America to find “silence,” is creating a lot of noise with her latest endeavor. But in all her years since consciously uncoupling with America and her place in the spotlight, it seems strange that the 32-year-old is making her comeback in such an intimate and vulnerable way.

We know admittedly little about Lohan’s upcoming series, but we can’t help but wonder, will she really be in it, or will focus fall upon the staff and customers at Lohan Beach House? According to the Times, the series is a “Vanderpump Rules-style” show, and though Lisa Vanderpump (owner of the restaurant where the show’s primary characters work) makes quite a few cameos, the show doesn’t revolve around her. So perhaps Lohan will have more of a supporting role as well?

It’s been a mere month since the NYT piece went live, but it seems Lohan’s ready to take the “business side” of her life public—as public as it can be, in fact.

We know you’re tired of rumors startin,’ Linds, so please, set the record straight: is the new Lindsay truly ready for her close-up?
