After leaving the promotion earlier in the week, Argos & Argenis, the two brothers of the former Myzteziz, made up with AAA earlier today.

A third brother, Mini Murder Clown, was always believed to be staying with the promotion.

The two met with company officials and asked if they could stay and both are being kept on.

The departure of Luis Urive, who was both the first Mistico character in CMLL and original Sin Cara in WWE, has been the biggest news story in a long time in Mexican wrestling.  Urive held a press conference earlier today where he said he was not returning to CMLL, and attempted to babyface himself by saying he thought he left on good terms with AAA and couldn’t understand why they aren’t using him for the rest of his advertised dates.

Urive said that the new name he will go by is Mystic 2.0.  He has big matches coming next weekend at Arena Mexico and the week after in Guadalajara.

Argos had worked one TNA taping through AAA, but wasn’t used going forward.  Argenis holds one-third of the trios titles in Lucha Underground as one of the masked Disciples of Death.

The situation with Alberto Del Rio and AAA is no longer looking good as WWE has confirmed that Del Rio will be working Monday’s Raw in Denver, as well as Smackdown on  Tuesday in Colorado Springs, before going on the entire European tour, working on the Roman Reigns half of the tour.

AAA was under the impression that Del Rio would be fulfilling most of his advertised dates with the promotion, starting with a TV taping on Monday in Nuevo Laredo, and would be missing Raw.  The other taping date he was advertised was November 15 in Ciudad Juarez, and he is booked the day before in Minehead, England, and traveling to Greenville, SC, from there, so it would appear very difficult to reroute him to Mexico.

At this point it appears AAA will be lucky to even get one date with him to drop their Mega heavyweight title.

Finn Balor beat Viktor of the Ascension. Good match. Balor also cleaned house on Conor at ringside. Fans knew who Balor was and popped big for him. They also loudly chanted NXT.

– Jack Swagger beat Adam Rose with the ankle lock. Before the match, Rose cut a promo blaming all the fans for nearly killing his career, by making him believe the Exotic Express gimmick was a good idea.

WWE Smackdown — 

— It opened with a Wyatt Family promo. Bray challenged the Undertaker & Kane to a 2-on-2 match at the Survivor Series, with Bray’s two being any of his choosing. He demanded an answer by the end of the night.

— Braun Strowman squashed Fandango, defeating him with his sleeper finisher in 90 seconds.

— Neville beat King Barrett in a WWE title tournament match. Good match. Neville had some great spots, including walking the ringside barricade and doing a somersault senton on to Barrett. Neville win with the Red Arrow.

— Next came a dark segment, just for the fans in arena. This was the highlight of the show. Barrett remained in the ring and said the last 48 hours had not gone to plan. He said he normally would’ve beat Neville without breaking a sweat but had Wayne Rooney on his mind. He said he will go to Stamford to see Vince at the end of the week and implore him never to return to Manchester ever again. Undertaker came out to a huge reaction. He did his big entrance and entered the ring. Barrett was hilarious here. He said, to much crowd laughter, “Can I help you mate? Are you lost? You’re not in Death Valley now you know, you’re in the mean streets of north west England. You’re on the wrong side of the tracks mate. They don’t call me the Preston Panther for nothing! I’m sick of outsiders coming into my yard. You’re not even worth my time!” Barrett went up walk out, then attacked Taker. Taker then laid him out with a choke slam & two Tombstones. This was all great. 

— Kalisto beat Ryback in an upset in the WWE title tournament. Surprisingly decent match. Kalisto used Ryback as a base to do all his flying around. Crowd popped big for the upset.

— Alberto Del Rio & Zeb Colter did a promo. Usual stuff about the English being hated and how Manchester had two soccer teams that divided the city, and it would be better if we were all ‘united in humanity’.

– WWE U.S. Champion Alberto Del Rio beat Stardust in the WWE title tournament. Not much heat, given it was heel vs heel. Del Rio won after a double foot stomp on Stardust in the corner.

— Roman Reigns did a backstage promo, vowing to beat Cesaro in the quarter finals next week on Raw and then win the title at Survivor Series. He once again said he wasn’t interested in shortcuts or selling out.

— In the main event, the Usos beat Luke Harper & Erick Rowan via DQ, when Bray Wyatt & Strowman interfered.

— The Undertaker’s music played, and then audio of Taker’s voice played over the PA system, accepting Wyatt’s challenge for the Survivor Series.

Post-Show — 

– After the show, in a dark main event, Roman Reigns beat Bray Wyatt in a short match. This was an abridged version of their Liverpool house show match a few days ago. They exchanged Kendo stick shots and Reigns won with a spear.

– Overall, a fun show. Nothing outstanding or spectacular but everyone went home happy. The Barrett/Undertaker exchange was the highlight of the show. I think with Reigns continually vowing not to sellout or take a shortcut, I really think a swerve, with him winning the title with the Authority’s help and turning heel (on Ambrose) would be for the best. That would set up a years worth of programmes – first with Ambrose, then maybe Lesnar at WM32, and perhaps Rollins as a babyface next summer. Throw in a programme with Cena too at some point. Seems the best direction to me. 

Hailstorms have devastated thousands of acres of prime Bordeaux vineyards, prompting the French government to promise support for winegrowers, some of whom have lost their entire crop.

Cyril Giresse, a winegrower, said hailstones “the size of pigeons’ eggs” destroyed grape buds and left vines bare on Saturday.

“The storm lasted only about 15 minutes, but in some places, there’s nothing left at all,” said Mr Giresse, who runs the Château Gravettes Samonac in Bordeaux’s Côtes de Bourg appellation. “No leaves, no grapes, just the vines stripped as if the grapes had all been picked.”

Jean-Dominique Château, another claret producer, said: “I’ve got nothing left. I’ve been growing grapes for 33 years and this is the worst storm I’ve ever seen. Last year we lost 40 per cent of our crop to hail but this year it’s going to be an even worse disaster.”

Stéphane Travert, the agriculture minister, said the government was assessing the extent of losses and would aid wine producers. “We’ll take the necessary measures and we’re ready to meet Bordeaux winemakers,” he said.

Franck Jullion, the head of the producers’ association in the “Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux” appellation, said: “It’s a desolate vista, as if the vines had gone back to winter. Estates hit by frost last year will not recover. We’re going to need a lot of support and solidarity.”

Saint-Emilion, one of the most prestigious Bordeaux appellations, was spared, but parts of Médoc were badly hit, as were Cognac brandy producers in the Charente and Charente-Maritime departments.

Didier Gontier, director of the Côtes de Bourg appellation, said: “Winegrowers say they’ve got no vines left for next year so this is going to affect two years of production.”  

Bordeaux is France’s largest wine-growing area, with about 300,000 acres of vineyards producing more than 700 million bottles of claret a year, ranging from cheap table wines to some of the world’s most acclaimed and expensive vintages.

French wine and spirits exports amounted to more than £11 billion last year. 

Wine industry leaders have opposed moves to tighten 1991 laws restricting alcohol advertising. President Emmanuel Macron has backed them, saying he drinks wine at lunch and dinner. 

He has infuriated doctors by minimising public health concerns over wine and arguing that spirits and beer pose more of a problem because they are favoured by binge-drinkers.

The man who many, if not most, wrestling experts believe to be the greatest wrestler that has ever lived and many in his native country believe to be the greatest athlete alive has signed to take the plunge into the pro wrestling world according to a press conference on 10/6 in Japan.

Alexander “The Experiment” Karelin, the Russian Greco-roman superheavyweight who has won an unprecedented 11 consecutive world championships, was announced by RINGS President Akira Maeda as being his opponent on a big show in mid-February, most likely at the Tokyo Dome. Karelin broke the record set by another legendary Russian, freestyle superheavyweight Alexander Medved who wrestled in the 60s and early 70s and captured ten world titles.

According to Maeda, who called Karelin the toughest fighter in the world and compared his record and his credentials favorably to Rickson Gracie, he said he’d been trying to get Karelin early in the year but talks fell apart. He said they tried to make contact for Karelin to come to the show when RINGS promoted on 4/25 in Russia but it also didn’t happen. He said they had continued to pursue Karelin through their Russian RINGS contacts and that he had signed a contract for the match last week.

An unfortunate Roman who was decapitated by a giant slab of stone as he tried to flee Pompeii was carrying a “treasure trove” of silver and bronze coins when he died, archeologists announced on Friday.

The skeleton of the man, partially buried beneath by the 300kg rock, was found earlier this week, in what was hailed as a “dramatic and exceptional discovery”.

Archeologists believe the man, aged in his thirties, was attempting to flee the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in AD79 but was impeded by an infection in his leg bone.

As experts excavated beneath the skeleton, they found the remains of a leather pouch which he had been carrying, perhaps around his neck, when a flying stone door jamb hurtled through the air and beheaded him.

The pouch contained 22 silver and bronze coins which together were worth 80 sestertii, equivalent to around 500 euros in today’s money.

It would have been enough to sustain a family of three for at least a fortnight, experts said.

The man may have been a merchant desperate to save a portion of his family’s wealth as he tried to flee the burning hot cloud of ash that descended on the city after the volcano erupted.

Archeologists also found a key that may have come from the man’s home.

“He wasn’t filthy rich but neither was he poor,” said Massimo Osanna, the director of the archeological site south of Naples.

The money emerged as archeologists dug beneath the skeleton in an effort to remove it to a laboratory for analysis.

The coins and the decomposed remains of the leather pouch will also be analysed.

Some of the coins dated back to the 2^nd century BC, while others were more recent and bore the likenesses of the emperors Augustus and Vespasian.

In Rome, meanwhile, archeologists made another unusual discovery – an underground tomb, with skeletons and offerings to the gods, that dates back to the 4^th century BC.

Apart from a small amount of subsidence, the tomb is intact and remains as it was when it was sealed more than 2,000 years ago.

Archeologists described the find, which was made on the outskirts of the capital during digging for cables by an electricity company, as “extraordinary”.

They have nicknamed the underground cavern “the Tomb of the Athlete” after discovering a pair of iron strigils – instruments with a curved blade that Roman and Greek athletes used for scraping off sweat and dirt after their workouts.

“The tomb discovered in Rome is … virtually intact and dates back to the Republican era,” said Francesco Prosperetti, a senior heritage official.

“We’ve called it the Tomb of the Athlete because of the two strigils which were used to scrape off sweat and animal fat after physical exercise.”

Alongside the skeletons, archeologists found the remains of food offered to the gods, including the bones of rabbits, chickens, lambs and goats, as well as ceramic plates and bowls.

They also recovered a 4^th century BC bronze coin decorated with the helmeted head of the goddess Minerva.

One of the men was aged around 50 while the other was aged 30-39.

Finding a tomb that is intact is rare, because many discovered in the past are either damaged by subsidence or robbed of their artefacts by tomb raiders.

Donald Haviland, better known as Hack Myers, passed away today, reportedly from complications after brain surgery at Johns Hopkins University hospital in Baltimore. He would have turned 42 on Monday.

Haviland was an independent wrestler who was brought into ECW in February, 1994, by Paul Heyman, largely as an enhancement wrestler. Because he used to grunt and say “Sha” when doing offensive maneuvers, fans in Philadelphia would start chanting “Sha” during his matches whenever he’d do something.  He became a cult favorite quickly, and even though he almost always lost, he was wrestling some of the biggest names in the company at the time, like Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk, within a few months of his arrival.  Eventually that led to his moniker as “The Shah of ECW.”

Heyman used him better, not as a  headliner, but he was a featured undercard act who usually got a big reaction.  The gimmick started running its course and he was going to leave the promotion, so he did a loser leaves town match with Too Cold Scorpio on the 1996 November to Remember show, which he lost.  He did a couple of matches as a nostalgias act later, and wrestled mostly Florida independent shows through around 2011.

Hopes of finding survivors of Guatemala’s El Fuego volcano’s devastating eruption three days ago are now focused on six hamlets high up the mountain where people might just have found refuge from the super-heated wall of gas, ash, and mud that hurtled down from the crater and buried two whole villages further down.

“The army is flying over the area looking for signs of life,” Mario Cruz, a spokesman for the fire brigade, told The Telegraph. “They haven’t found anybody yet.”

The official number of those missing currently stands at 192, a preliminary figure because nobody knows how many people were on the mountain when El Fuego erupted on Sunday around midday.

The death toll locally on Wednesday morning was 75, though this was expected to be revised upwards during the day. So far officials have identified about a third of the bodies recovered.

Cruz said firefighters dug up three bodies during their first hours of work in El Rodeo and San Miguel los Lotes, the two villages filled with small farmers that once nestled in the lush foothills of the volcano that were suddenly transformed into moonscapes by the eruption.

Rescue workers say it is hard to imagine how anybody caught up in the churning clouds of volcanic material that reached up to 700 degrees centigrade could have survived. It is known technically as pyroclastic flow and is more dangerous than lava because it travels much faster.

Officials say most would have died from asphyxia. The ash and debris covering buildings would have been unlikely to leave the kind of air pockets that can sometimes keep earthquake victims alive for days.

A video posted on the website of local paper Prensa Libre showed two firefighters using spades to reach a body just visible within the wall of a two-meter pit of ash.

Rescue work has also been slowed by the heat still emanating from the debris in many areas.

On Wednesday, workers were using metal rods to poke into the ground to release smoke and steam before deciding where to dig. Those digging have needed to continually spray water on their shoes to avoid the soles melting.

Heavy rain last night has cooled the temperatures down somewhat but has also hardened the ash.

The authorities have also warned that the rain has increased the danger of muddy avalanches adding more devastation to the eruption that also left dozens in hospital and thousands in shelters struggling to come to terms with the loss of their loved ones and their homes.

And all the while the volcano, among Central America’s most active, is still puffing. A warning of another eruption sparked another evacuation on Tuesday afternoon, sparking some scenes of panic.
