Due to the coronavirus outbreak, there will be no new WWE Backstage episode this coming Tuesday night on FS1 at 11pm ET. It’s possible that more upcoming episodes will also be nixed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

FOX Sports announced today that they have made the decision to suspend production of their live FS1 studio shows, through at least Friday, March 20.

“Our top priority is the health and safety of our employees. We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust accordingly,” the statement said.

The WWE On FOX Twitter account confirmed that the ruling will impact Backstage.

“This includes #WWEBackstage. We will be sure to update the @WWE Universe as soon as we know more,” they tweeted.

The nixed episode of WWE Backstage was scheduled to feature the return of analyst CM Punk, plus WWE NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley making her first appearance on the show.

Stay tuned for updates on the status of WWE Backstage filming. You can see the full statement from FOX Sports below:

A David Hockney painting has been sold for $90 million (£70 million), smashing the auction record for a living artist.

Hockney’s 1972 work Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures) went under the hammer at Christie’s in New York on Thursday.

It emphatically surpassed the previous record for a work by a living artist, which was held by American Jeff Koons and one of his Balloon Dog sculptures which sold for $58.4 million (£45.6 million) in 2013.

Portrait of an Artist was sold to an unknown buyer and the identity of the seller is also unconfirmed.

British artist Hockney, 81, was inspired to paint the picture by two photographs he found on his studio floor, one of a swimmer in Hollywood in 1966 and another of a boy staring at an item on the ground.

The painting shows two men, one doing the breaststroke under water while the other watches from the side of the pool.

The standing figure is said to represent Hockney’s former partner Peter Schlesinger, whom the British artist met in 1966 while teaching art classes in California.

Hockney had already begun the painting when they split up in 1971. After a break, he resumed the piece the following year.

Alex Rotter, co-chairman of post-war and contemporary art at Christie’s in New York, told the Associated Press in September that it is "the holy grail" of Hockney’s work.

He said: "It has all the elements that you would want in a Hockney painting.

"The California landscape, the beautiful trees and flowers and the sky, and then what we know him most for, which is the pool."

The sale come six months after his  “Pacific Coast Highway and Santa Monica sold for $28.5 million.

The painting drew a huge amount of interest during the presale viewing in Christie’s Rockefeller Centre. “I’m only here for this,” Post Villafane, 32, a young collector from Queens, told the New York Times on Wednesday.

“The colours are so realistic,” he said. “They blend so well. Look how the paint shimmers. It’s beautiful.”

The work went far towards boosting the success of Christie’s post-war and contemporary art auction, which took in a total of $357.6 million, with 41 of the 48 lots on offer finding buyers.

Other highlights included Francis Bacon’s "Study of Henrietta Moraes Laughing," which sold for $21.7 million against a pre-sale estimate of $14 million to $18 million, and Alexander Calder’s "21 Feuilles Blanches," which more than doubled its high estimate, selling for just under $18 million.

Surfer severely mauled by shark in Australia

July 15, 2020 | News | No Comments

A surfer was severely mauled by a shark off Australia’s east coast, officials said Sunday, the latest in a series of attacks in recent months.

The 36-year-old was surfing near Scotts Head Beach some 300 miles north of Sydney in the morning when he was bitten, New South Wales state police said.

"The man suffered a severe leg injury below his knee on his right leg," a NSW Ambulance spokesman told AFP. "He had five deep lacerations and he suffered a lot of blood loss."

He was in the water with several other surfers when he disappeared, Surf Life Saving NSW said.

"One of them has seen him disappear under the water, with a flume of water spraying up and then the victim has lifted his arm up to indicate he was having a problem," Surf Life Saving spokeswoman Donna Wishart told national broadcaster ABC.

About | Shark attacks

The man was flown to a hospital in serious condition.

Officials said it was not yet known what shark species was involved.

The attack was the eighth off Australian beaches in three months, amid public debate about how to reduce the risk of encounters between sharks and the growing number of people using the ocean for leisure.

New South Wales, Australia’s most populous state, has trialled non-lethal measures such as aerial drones to track shark movements and "smart" drum lines that alert authorities to their presence.

Australia has one of the world’s highest incidences of shark attacks, but fatalities remain rare.

There have been 16 "unprovoked" shark attacks off the vast continent’s coast this year, including one death after a swimmer was mauled by a shark in the Whitsunday Islands in early November, according to data from Sydney’s Taronga Zoo.

Undisputed ERA’s Roderick Strong sent shockwaves through the EVOLVE Wrestling locker room over the weekend when he issued a challenge to EVOLVE Champion and fellow NXT Superstar Fabian Aichner on Twitter.
Now, WWE.com can confirm that Strong will not only receive at title opportunity at EVOLVE 117 on Saturday, Dec. 15 in Queens, N.Y. — facing Aichner and previously scheduled challenger Austin Theory in a Triple Threat Match — but the NXT Tag Team Champion will also face one of the sport’s most fearless risk-takers, Darby Allin, the next night at EVOLVE 118 in Deer Park, N.Y.
Strong called out Aichner via a tweet on Saturday while commenting on the recent trend of NXT Superstars competing in EVOLVE. NXT’s Italian Roughneck, who captured the EVOLVE Title in October, didn’t wait long to respond, accepting the challenge the next day:

Interesting thought Hot Rod! U can show up anytime you want. But just know this….If you push me, I will push you back! #ChallengeAccepted https://t.co/XrrNqRP2Tu
— Fabian Aichner (@FabianAichner) December 2, 2018

While Strong’s declaration earned him a spot in the Dec. 15 title match, it also drew a response from Allin, who has long been in the hunt for the EVOLVE Championship. Allin challenged The Messiah of the Backbreaker to a match on Dec. 16, leading EVOLVE to make the bout official for EVOLVE 118.

Hold up, Roddy. Yeah, it’s #undisputed you are great, but the EVOLVE Championship is mine. I’m getting the shot on Dec. 15th at EVOLVE 117 at La Boom. Just a heads up you will not #shockthesystem because I’m the #NeXT EVOLVE Champ. Dunna dun dun da dun da…?? https://t.co/QnBk7BOPgt
— Austin Theory (@austintheory1) December 2, 2018

Before you go around throwing challenges…..TAKE a hard look at who’s been fighting for that EVOLVE championship.
So before I learn my lesson let’s see how bad things can get.
Come on down to EVOLVE and pay me a visit at EVOLVE 118 on Dec 16 in Deer Park, NY. https://t.co/rFJ1ppmHXz

WWE Superstar Kalisto was recently as guest on The Steve Austin Show Podcast for an in-depth interview on a number of topics. Below are the highlights from the interview:

On Rey Mysterio offering good advice: “Eddie not only made noise to the latin community. Like, he made noise everywhere. Same with Rey. Rey, his stature, and right now, he has given me so much advice. I was even talking to him about Eddie and how I wish I could have met him and pick his brain. [Eddie] taught [Rey] so much, and he was kind of like giving me advice and I’m still picking his brain, but Eddie and Rey, man, I think they set the world on fire and they made some noise, especially in the latin community because do you know what? That inspired me to actually follow my dream.”

On advice such as the idea of coming to the ring with matracas: “Right now, he’s telling me to keep grinding. No matter what, just keep trying to make some noise and try to make people turn their heads. Like, ‘whoa, this is new. This is entertaining. This is fun.’ Alright, well, that’s exactly what I’m doing with my team Lucha House Party with Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado. And right now, we’re having fun bringing matracas, noise makers, with the piñatas. We’re just having fun, but, hey, if you want action, we’ll give you action. I’m always telling Rey, ‘so hey, what do you think of my match?’ ‘Oh, you did good. You did real good. Just keep grinding. Just keep grinding. Just keep doing you. Just keep making noise.’ So that kind of meant a lot to me because, coming from him, man, that’s pretty cool. Like, he always telling me, like, ‘man, one day, we’ll do something. One day.’ And I’m like, ‘well, that’s pretty cool.’”

This week’s edition of Monday Night Raw kicked off with General Manager-elect Baron Corbin coming down to the ring for a promo, which was eventually interrupted by Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins. During the promo, Rollins boldly claimed that Raw has “sucked” ever since Corbin took on the GM role. Rollins said that ratings and backstage morale are both low at the moment. What made the segment so interesting is that Seth’s promo echoed several arguments from fans who have felt that the quality of Raw has declined quite a bit over the past couple of weeks. Seth Rollins put his title on the line in a TLC match against Corbin in the main event of the show last night, which Rollins was able to win.
Billy Corgan is currently working on reviving the National Wrestling Alliance promotion. The NWA already experienced some notoriety earlier this year when Cody Rhodes won the world title at All In, and when the promotion celebrated its 70th anniversary not too long ago. However, Corgan will continue to help the promotion grow in 2019. Corgan doubled down on his promise for the return of the Crockett Cup and more pay-per-views near year, but Corgan also revealed some new details on his Instagram story. Corgan said that the NWA will be partnering with Ring of Honor and Championship Wrestling From Hollywood. This likely means that the NWA title will be defended in multiple promotions, and talent from the roster will be featured all over the US as well.
Earlier this year, Matt Hardy shocked everybody by announcing his plans to go on hiatus from the wrestling business. At one point, it even seemed as if Hardy had retired from the ring altogether due to injuries, and in order to focus on becoming a backstage agent for WWE. However, “The Woken One” has since made it clear that his in-ring career is still far from finished. In fact, while speaking with MyKhel.com in India, Hardy named one match that he still definitely would like to have before his time in WWE concludes. Matt says that he would actually still like to go one on one with Roman Reigns. The former Universal Champion currently has no timetable for a possible return, and neither does Matt Hardy.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch was recently interviewed by Yahoo Sports to promote WWE TLC. Below are the highlights from the interview:
On her recent character change and how she had been “tinkering” with it for a long time: “It’s something that I knew that I had in myself, but I didn’t know how to bring it out, what the right opportunity would be. I’ve walked around saying the things that I’ve been saying in my head for a long time and now the truth is coming out and I’m saying what I want to say without any fear of what people think of me, fear of being disliked. It’s been very freeing.”
“That’s been a gradual thing of self-belief. The top dog in the company has always been the man. Now I’m the top dog. It’s been a progression of believing it and owning it.”
On being compared to UFC’s Conor McGregor & WWE Hall Of Famer Steve Austin: “Of course, it’s an absolute honor. Nobody can get compared to two of the best in sports and sports entertainment and be insulted. They’ve certainly never seen a woman do it the way I’m doing it. I’ll take those comparisons all day long, but know that this is something different.”
On her increased social media use: “I know a lot of people get upset with my social media, but it gets people interested and it gets people invested. If running my mouth is all I’m able to do, then that is what I will do. I will do whatever I can do to the best of my ability. If you want to punch me in the face and keep me out, you can’t keep my mouth out of it.”
“I have 15 minutes on TV, if I’m lucky, to tell people what I think, but if I have a platform at my fingertips, I can tell people what I think constantly so that they know exactly who I am and that they care about who I am and who I am fighting. I look at a lot of people’s social media and they are writing love letters to each other, I don’t have time for that, I don’t understand that.”
