SmackDown Live will feature a match between former Women’s Champion Carmella and Sonya Deville after Deville attacked the Staten Island princess’ wrestling ability and inclusion in the No. 1 contender match last week against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.
Deville said she couldn’t believe she lost out on a title opportunity to someone who only worries about Dance Breaks. Of course, Carmella did not put up with that. Here’s a look at the two getting into it with each other which set up the match on Tuesday:

The fact that THIS is what took my spot in the triple threat match last week AND is gonna take up some more wasted space in the rumble ?? #WHOLEMOOD https://t.co/LXUCKDDswL

Great Britain’s World of Sport Wrestling, which was revived with a ten episode first season last year, announced they have acquired TV distributrion in India on DSport, across Africa with Star Times, in Poland with Fightklub and would soon announce distribution in the United States.
World of Sport was a sports anthology series that ran for 20 years on ITV and regularly featured pro wrestling personalities and matches from Europe.  When the decision was made in 1985 to cancel the series, it crippled homegrown pro wrestling in that region for many years, setting the stage for the then-WWF’s already growing popularity in the region to flourish just a few years later.
Several years, WWE opened communications with ITV with the idea of purchasing their pro wrestling-related material from the original ITV World of Sport library for their own use, without success.   In 2013, John Chapman licensed and filmed a World of Sport TV pilot that ITV opted not to pick up.  The online attention to that pilot led to WWE reaching out to ITV in 2014 to open communications about purchasing the library.  The acquisition never went down, but those two events may have started the process of ITV opting to launch their own pilot taping earlier this year.
ITV Commissioned a pilot, which aired on New Year’s Eve 2016, featuring Grado, Viper, Dave Mastiff, Mark and Joe Coffey,  Kenny Williams, El Ligero, and Zack Gibson among others. WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross was brought in as lead announcer and worked as a producer for the pilot.   The pilot airing did well, leading to a March 2017 announcement that ITV was bringing back World of Sport for a ten episode first season. with Tom McLennan and Simon Marsh announced as Executive Producers.
Impact Wrestling got involved with the project as this point with Jeff Jarrett, then-the Chief Creative Officer of the company, effectively replacing Jim Ross.  Tapings were announced for May 2017 at Preston Guild Hall and went on sale.  The plan was for the series to debut in July 2017 on ITV with Impact parent company Anthem attempting to syndicate the series in other countries, but it was not to be.   The tapings were canceled just a few weeks before they were set to take place with the idea that the project was being postponed, although the feeling among talents who were contracted for the series was that the project was dead.  Impact sources at the time claimed there were logistical issues with the tapings, although stories that were floated by wrestlers who were contracted instead placed the blame at least partially on Jarrett pushing for the network to drop the idea of a 10 episode series, instead running a traditional, ongoing series.
The announcement of plans for the original tapings led to World Wrestling Entertainment rushing forward with plans for their own UK brand, currently known as the NXT UK, placing a number of talents under contract.  After holding several events to crown their first champion, WWE utilized the NXT brand to showcase the UK talents while seeking a potential TV deal with a number of UK broadcasters under the “King of the Ring” title, including, as PWInsider.com has previously reported, ITV.   In the end, WWE would not end up on British TV, instead launching the series on their own WWE Network streaming series.
ITV registered trademarks for for WOS Wrestling, WOS, World of Sport as well as the Classic World of Sport logo in Great Britain as well as the trademark for WOS Wrestling in the United States.  The trademarks were originally registered in 2012 by John Chapman’s company as ITV did not originally own the rights when Chapman filmed his pilot.  After ITV declined the air the pilot in 2013, they opted to purchase the trademarks from Chapman.
World of Sport Wrestling’s live tour kicks off this weekend with the following announced:
Friday 1/18 at the O2 Guildhall in Southampton:
*WOSW Champion Justin Sysum & Robbie X vs. Alpha Bad.

While the live tour is scheduled for this month, there has been no word on a second season and a number of talents are expected to move on elsewhere when their deals expire.

The depth and quality of the annual Minnesota Christmas Tournament never has been in question.

That won’t change this weekend.

The 30th-annual high school wrestling event is set for Friday and Saturday at UCR Regional Sports Center. It’s widely considered Minnesota’s toughest individual tournament, and it’s developed into one of the top individual events in the country.

This year’s numbers are jaw-dropping. There will be 15 nationally ranked wrestlers in action, including two top-ranked wrestlers. There will be 35 wrestlers ranked No. 1 at their weight class in their home state and a total of 173 state-ranked wrestlers in action. Continue reading at www.postbulletin.com

Ahead of this Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble PPV Event at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey appeared as a guest on Kevin Hart’s “Cold As Balls” Show for an interview. Below are the highlights from the interview:
On being an Olympic Judoka: “I won the Pan-American Games at 16 years old and then I won the Olympic trials. Then that August was my first Olympics (2004) and I got screwed over. It was the referees, it wasn’t the girl’s fault. I’m still mad about it, but it’s okay.”
“I threw the girl flat on her back and then the referee and the two judges pretended like it didn’t happen. I was a completely unknown person from a country that wasn’t very good at judo and I had no business being there and beating that person.”

On her mom not being a fan of her decision to transition to real fighting in MMA: “I told my mom and she said ‘This is the stupidest f—ing idea I’ve ever heard in all my life.’ I told her just give me a year before you disown me. Give me a year to make this work.”
On her original goals in pro wrestling not including being a champion, but instead making a mark on the industry as a whole: “The goal is not to be champion. Roddy Piper’s son told me that belts don’t matter and it’s about stories and storytelling. I really want the WWE and women’s division to be better off because I was there. I wanna be a catalyst and push everything forward and I want people to thank me for being there.”

No. 18 Vikings Take Down No. 7 Wolves, 32-9

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The No. 18 Augustana wrestling team opened the NSIC dual portion of the schedule with an upset win over No. 7 Northern State. The Vikings defeated the Wolves 32-9 and improved to 6-2 (1-0 NSIC) on the season.

The Vikings had defeated the Wolves earlier in the season at the South Dakota Showcase, 19-18. The Vikings used a late comeback in the dual to earn the victory, but left no doubt in the Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D. on Saturday night.

Augustana jumped out to a 12-0 advantage by winning the first three matches of the night and never looked back earning the 32-9 win. The Vikings entered the match with two ranked wrestlers compared to the five ranked wrestlers by the Wolves. Augustana won both matches wrestled by its ranked wrestlers and took three of the five matches against Northern State’s wrestlers.

Freshman Brandon Carroll, making his Viking dual debut, upset No. 9 Richard Casillas by a 10-9 decision at 125 pounds to get the night started.

Brandon Charbonneau earned a 7-3 decision over Matthew Leier at 133 pounds and Austin Jordan earned a forfeit victory at 141 pounds.

At 149, Bailey Neises fell to No. 2 Tyler Stenberg by a 5-0 decision. At 157, Tyler Nation earned another upset win for the Vikings by toppling No. 6 Blake Perryman by a 7-3 decision.

Regan Bye defeated No. 7 Sean Havlovic at 165 pounds when Havlovic was unable to wrestle due to injury giving the Vikings a commanding 21-3 lead. At 174, Brent Havlik made his Viking debut, but fell to Tanner Olson by a 9-5 decision.

At 184, No. 3 Aero Amo continued his strong season with a second period tech fall over David Murphy. Amo earned his fourth tech fall on the season which is good for a tie for the team lead. At 197, Clayton Wahlstrom lost a hard-fought match to No. 11 and two-time All-American Joe Gomez by a 7-3 decision.

In the final match of the night at 285 pounds No. 8 Michael Lowman earned the only pin of the match with a third period pin over Harrison Townsend.
