— Kevin Eck of The Baltimore Sun has posted a story asking if Gail Kim is WWE bound. An industry source told Eck that Gail had recently been in contract renegotiations with TNA and that World Wrestling Entertainment was definitely interested in bringing her back to the company if she was unable to reach a new deal with TNA. {Is Gail Kim WWE bound?}

— The official website of Rey Mysterio, ReyMysterio.com, has been shut down until further notice “due to the recent announcement by Kane on Monday Night RAW.” They also added, “TEAM MYSTERIO has no comment at this time as to the status of Rey Mysterio.” Mysterio’s web team has done stuff similar to this past, such as the time Chavo Guerrero “hacked” the website during their feud in 2006.

In views on trade and tariffs with China, most Americans applaud the goals but express some wariness about the tactics — at least in the short term.

More than six in ten Americans (62%) favor trying to get China to change its trade policies toward the U.S. This view includes large majorities of Republicans (84%) and independents (67%) and a substantial number of Democrats (46%) too.Asked to gauge the impact of new tariffs imposed by the U.S. and China, specifically, more Americans foresee short-term pain for the U.S. economy than see short-term upside.Over the long term, Americans are split on whether they think new tariffs will ultimately lead to better trade deals between the U.S. and China. Most Americans are unwilling to pay while being patient. Two-thirds of Americans say they’d be unwilling to pay more for goods impacted by any tariffs while the U.S. tries to renegotiate trade deals. Those earning less money are the least willing to see costs go up. Along partisan lines, six in ten Republicans are willing to pay more, which sets them apart from most Democrats and independents, most of whom are not willing.
Most Americans do believe free trade has generally been good for the U.S. This includes a large majority of Democrats, a slim majority of Republicans, and most independents.Views on President Trump’s handling of the trade issue with China are divided and, as with most evaluations of the President, starkly partisan: 86 percent of Republicans approve of his handling, 83 percent of Democrats disapprove, and independents are split. There is majority support — especially from Republicans, but also from most Democrats — for the U.S. government giving money to people in the farming and agriculture industries who might be hurt by new tariffs. Subsidizing manufacturing workers finds more mixed support, and most Americans oppose giving to those in the technology sector. The CBS News survey is conducted by YouGov using a nationally representative sample of 1,5110 U.S. residents interviewed online between May 14-16, 2019. This sample was weighted according to gender, age, race, and education based on the American Community Survey, conducted by the U.S. Bureau of the Census, as well as 2016 Presidential vote and registration status. Respondents were selected from YouGov’s opt-in panel to be representative of all U.S. residents. The margin of error is 2.7%.

Serena Williams defeated Vitalia Diatchenko, who is 83rd-ranked by the Women’s Tennis Association, at her opening match at Roland Garros of the French Open on Monday. The 37-year-old had a rough start to the first round of the Grand tournament when Diatchenko took the first set (6-2), but Williams took over the rest of the game with (6-1), (6-0) leading to her win.

At last year’s Grand Slam competition, Williams had to pull out before the fourth round because of an injury. She then went on to become the runner-up at both Wimbledon and U.S. Open following the injury, according to The Associated Press. For this year’s tournament, she will continue her pursuit for a 24th Grand Slam title because of her win against Diatchenko. Not shy from making a fashion statement, Williams arrived at the French Open in a designer look — a collaboration between Nike and designer Virgil Abloh. In 2018, Williams showed up to the French Open in a black catsuit, for health reasons, which has since been banned from the tournament because it doesn’t adhere to the dress code.
“Let the Roland Garros begin,” she wrote in an Instagram post as she posed with Abloh. Williams appeared on the court with the designer jacket, which was covered with the words “champion,” “queen,” “goddess” and “mother” in French.”Those are things that mean a lot to me and reminders for me — and for everyone that wants to wear it,” Williams explained. “Just remind everyone that they can be champions and are queens,” The Associated Press noted.

WWE is hoping to have 45,000 fans per night at this year’s two-night WrestleMania in Tampa, Florida.

Click Here: aviron bayonnais rugby jerseys

Originally shooting for 30,000 per night, city officials told hotel officials in a meeting last week that WWE would like to see Raymond James Stadium at 75% capacity for April 10th and 11th. Capacity would have been 60,000 pre-pandemic.

It’s unknown whether that request has been approved. Florida governor Ron DeSantis lifted all COVID-19 restrictions last fall, so it would be up to the city (Tampa Sports Authority) to determine how many fans could be allowed in.

WWE has not announced any number publicly, instead saying a “limited” number of tickets will go on-sale this Tuesday with prices from $35 to $2500 per show.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer speculated what the company’s approach could be:

“A Tampa WrestleMania was not a given to be a sellout as opposed to New York or Dallas which did sell out. They also could test it out by putting a smaller number on sale this week and judge from the response and then add tickets and whatever they feel they can sell becomes capacity. But with tickets going on sale so late in the game, there isn’t much time to go out and maybe put 25,000 or 30,000 seats on sale, and then judging by the demand for those tickets, then put another 15,000 to 20,000 more on sale a week later.”

Another major title match is set for next week’s edition of NXT.

WWE has announced that NXT Champion Finn Balor will defend his title against Adam Cole on NXT next Wednesday. The show will also feature Io Shirai defending her NXT Women’s Championship against Toni Storm.

Balor most recently defended the NXT Championship against Pete Dunne at TakeOver: Vengeance Day last month. When Balor was being beaten down by Oney Lorcan, Danny Burch, and Dunne after the match, Undisputed Era ran out to make the save. But Cole then dropped Balor with a superkick and turned against Kyle O’Reilly in the event’s show-closing angle.

In the weeks since TakeOver: Vengeance Day, Cole laid out Balor two more times and the breakup of Undisputed Era continued. Roderick Strong appeared on tonight’s show and wanted an explanation for why Cole turned against him last week, but Balor instead interrupted Strong. Strong blamed Balor for Undisputed Era’s issues. Balor responded by saying the NXT Championship was the reason that Undisputed Era’s “so-called brotherhood” broke apart. Balor then announced next week’s Balor vs. Cole NXT Championship match.

A brawl between Balor and Strong led to a match between them being announced for tonight’s main event. Balor defeated Strong and then had a staredown with Cole after the match when Cole appeared on the stage.

Balor won the NXT Championship by defeating Cole in September of last year. After the title was vacated by Karrion Kross due to injury, a four-way Iron Man match between Balor, Cole, Johnny Gargano, and Tommaso Ciampa was made to decide the new champion. That ended in a tie between Balor and Cole, setting up the singles match where Balor defeated Cole to win the title.

Next week’s NXT will also feature Xia Li vs. Kayden Carter. Plus, NXT general manager William Regal will make an announcement that will “change the landscape of NXT.” That announcement is related to an angle on tonight’s show where WWE authority figure Adam Pearce helped Raw’s Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler retain the Women’s Tag Team titles against NXT’s Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez.

China is reportedly putting purchases of U.S. soybeans on hold amid the growing trade war with the U.S., according to a report from Bloomberg News. As the world’s largest soybean buyer, China’s move could ramp up the economic pressure on American farmers.

China doesn’t plan to cancel orders it’s already made, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the situation. Even though China had agreed earlier this year to buy 10 million tons of U.S. soybeans, the purchases have halted, with about 7 million tons of soybeans yet to be delivered to China, Bloomberg noted. President Donald Trump earlier this month announced $16 billion in aid for American farmers who have been hurt by the escalating trade war between the U.S. and China. While Mr. Trump has falsely stated the farm aid will be paid by China, the money will be paid by the U.S. Treasury.
Federal aid is helping offset some of the losses to farmers, but some say they worry China may stick with soybean purchases from other countries even after the trade war ends, Mississippi Today reported on Tuesday. About 80% of the soybeans grown in Mississippi were exported to China before the trade war, it noted. “It’s a balancing act,” farmer Michael Aguzzi told Mississippi Today. “It’s forcing us to make decisions on bean storage and if we’re going to ride this roller coaster out.”The move comes after China’s state media on Wednesday suggested it may play a new trade card — restricting U.S. access to “rare earths,” the chemical elements that are widely used in everything from mobile phones and other consumer electronics to wind turbines, MRI machines and military hardware.China dominates global exports of the 17 elements that constitute rare earths, accounting for almost 80% of America’s imports last year, according to the U.S. Geological Survey and Bank of America Merrill Lynch analysts. Other countries that supply rare earths to the U.S. include Australia, Estonia, France and Japan. As for soybeans, the value of U.S. soybean exports to China had peaked recent years at roughly $14.5 billion in 2014, according to U.S. Census figures. Exports sank last year to $3.1 billion amid the start of the U.S.-China trade tussle, down from more than $12.3 billion in 2017.The U.S. Department of Agriculture forecast this month that demand from China for imported soybeans will drop an accumulated 42 million tons for the 2019-2020 year. Prices for soybeans in the U.S. have also plummeted in recent years, and were already falling even before the trade fight began. They’re trading at a 10-year low, according to Bloomberg. — Rachel Layne contributed to this report.

Hong Kong — Hundreds of thousands of protesters marched through Hong Kong on Sunday to voice their opposition to government-sponsored legislation that would allow people to be extradited to mainland China to face charges. The peaceful protest turned violent early Monday morning when several hundred protesters stormed Hong Kong’s parliament and clashed with police.

According to Reuters, demonstrators charged at police lines in an attempt to enter the Legislative Council building. The police charged back, displaying tear gas guns and using pepper spray. The crowd briefly pushed its way into the lobby but police used batons and pepper spray and the protesters were moved outside. There is no confirmation yet if anyone has been killed or injured. The massive demonstration took place three days before the semi-autonomous Chinese territory’s government plans to bring the highly contentious bill to the full legislature, bypassing the committee process in a bid to win approval by the end of the month. The bill has been proposed by the administration of Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam.
Hong Kong’s leader signaled Monday that her government will go ahead with proposed amendments to its extradition laws despite the massive protest against them. Lam told reporters the legislation is important and will help Hong Kong uphold justice and fulfill its international obligations. Safeguards added in May will ensure that the legislation protects human rights, she said. The protest was one of the largest in recent Hong Kong history. It appeared to be larger than the 2014 Pro Democracy Movement protests. It also appeared to be even bigger than a massive pro-democracy demonstration in 2003 against a proposed national security law, according to Associated Press journalists who covered both events. People of all ages took part in the march, some pushing strollers and others carrying canes, chanting slogans in the native Cantonese dialect in favor of greater transparency in government. Kiwi Wong, 27, was among the throng, a member of the younger generation who’ve grown up enjoying relative prosperity but also growing insecurity about what many see as an erosion of the rights Hong Kong residents have enjoyed. “If I didn’t come out now, I don’t know when I would have the chance to express my opinion again,” Wong said. “Because now we’ve got to this stage, if you don’t come out to try to do what you can, then it will end up too late, you won’t be able to say or do anything about it.” Alex Ng, a 67-year-old retiree, said he joined the protest because “I think that there was never any public consultation about this law, and there are a lot of uncertainties.” Hong Kong’s leader, Carrie Lam, has pushed forward with the legislation despite widespread criticism from human rights and business groups. The amendments have been criticized as eroding Hong Kong’s judicial independence by making it easier to send criminal suspects to mainland China, where they could face vague national security charges and unfair trials. The Hong Kong government said in a statement late Sunday that it respected the right of its opponents to protest.

Hong Kong was guaranteed the right to retain its own social, legal and political systems for 50 years following its handover from British to Chinese rule in 1997, the so-called “one country, two systems” framework. However, China’s ruling Communist Party has been seen as increasingly reneging on that agreement by forcing through unpopular legal changes. Hong Kong currently limits extraditions to jurisdictions with which it has existing extradition agreements or to others on an individual basis under a law passed before 1997. China was excluded because of concerns over its poor record on legal independence and human rights. In recent years, mainland authorities have gone after opponents by accusing them of dubious crimes such as tax evasion and crystallizing worries among critics. Lam’s government argued that the revisions were needed to close legal loopholes, while opponents say that is merely an excuse to pursue China’s agenda of reducing Hong Kong’s legal independence. Hong Kong’s Legislative Council plans to vote on the bill Wednesday.

Popular children’s magazine Highlights has taken a stance on an issue affecting many children and their parents — separations of migrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border. Highlights CEO Kent Johnson released a statement this week, saying this “not a political statement about immigration policy,” but one about human decency.

“As a company that helps children become their best selves — curious, creative, caring and confident — we want kids to understand the importance of having moral courage. Moral courage means standing up for what we believe is right, honest and ethical—even when it is hard,” the statement said.It also highlighted the company’s core belief: “Children are the world’s most important people.”
“With this core belief in mind our minds and hearts, we denounce the practice of separating immigrant families and urge our government to cease this activity, which is unconscionable and causes irreparable damage to young lives,” the statement said.Johnson invited readers, regardless of their political leanings to “join us in speaking out against family separation and to call for more humane treatment of immigrant children currently being held in detention facilities. Write, call, or email your government representatives.”Earlier this week, the U.S. government removed many of the more than 300 migrant children who were found last week living in squalid conditions at a border protection facility in Texas. Lawyers said hundreds of migrant children were forced to sleep on the floor for weeks without enough food, many battling the flu and a lice infestation. Highlights is just one company speaking out against the conditions at the border. Several hundred Wayfair employees walked off work Wednesday to protest the company’s sale of furniture to a new detention center in Texas intended for detained migrant children. Before the walkout, Wayfair’s founder offered to donate $100,000 to the Red Cross “to help those in dire need of basic necessities at the border,” the Boston Globe reported. But that fell short of what employees wanted — an end to doing business with companies involved in the migrant holding facilities and a donation of the reported $86,000 profit from the sale to RAICES, a legal services nonprofit that works with immigrants.
