TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Currently in her eighth season as the head coach of the Florida State softball program, Lonni Alameda will soon add another head coach title to her résumé as the USSSA Pride announced that she will lead their professional team for the 2016 season in the National Pro Fastpitch league.

“I’m honored to coach in the NPF,” said Alameda. “I think the National Pro Fastpitch league is an outstanding opportunity to grow our game and to be the head coach of the USSSA Pride with all of their great athletes, tradition and reputation that they have is going to be an amazing experience.

“I’m really excited to learn from the athletes and to continue to create the culture and environment of growing the game for professional fastpitch, collegiate softball and softball in general. We all have the responsibility to keep moving this game forward. As we have people like Don DeDonatis who nurtures such a great learning environment and experience for athletes, it is truly an honor to be a part of.”

Alameda will be the latest in a long line of collegiate coaches that have been at the helm of the USSSA Pride in during the summer. Former Pride head coaches include Tim Walton (Florida – 2010-2011), Beth Torina (LSU – 2012), JT D’Amico (Washington – 2013), Gerry Glasco (Georgia – 2014) and Mike Davenport (North Georgia – 2015).

It also continues Florida State’s involvement with the Pride as assistant coach Travis Wilson was an assistant coach during the 2015 NPF season. In 2015, the Seminole hitting coach helped the Pride lead the league in several offensive categories and finish as the NPF regular season champions.

The Seminoles have placed several student-athletes in the professional ranks in recent seasons with Courtney Senas and Maddie O’Brien on the PA Rebellion, Briana Hamilton with the Akron Racers and Lacey Waldrop with the 2015 Cowles Cup Champion Chicago Bandits.

The 2016 National Pro Fastpitch season begins on May 31 with the Akron Racers taking on the PA Rebellion. Alameda will join the Pride following the conclusion of the Florida State season and opening day for the Pride will be on June 10 in Conroe, Texas against the newest NPF Franchise, the Scrap Yard Dawgs. As the US pushes for regime change in Venezuela, Caracas has moved closer to Moscow. Despite US claims that Russia threatens world democracy, analysts say it’s Washington which is responsible for neglect to international law.

There is “no time to wait” when it comes to the process of moving Venezuela’s state oil company PDVSA from Lisbon to Moscow, Venezuela’s ambassador to Russia Carlos Rafael Faria Tortosa told reporters on Tuesday, just days after the PDVSA move was announced by Vice President Delcy Rodriguez. He said it was the “perfect time” and reflected the “reshaping” of Venezuela’s international relationships.

Tortosa also told reporters that Venezuela’s oil minister, Manuel Quevedo, may attend a meeting of the intergovernmental commission in Russia in early April, signalling potential further cooperation.

Moscow, certainly, will be glad to host Manuel Quevedo. It has also been quick to offer humanitarian aid to Venezuela. The deliveries of Russian aid through channels like the UN and World Health Organization (WHO), however, stand in stark contrast to recent US attempts to illegally push ostensible humanitarian aid into Venezuela over the Colombian border — an effort which was not supported by the UN or the Red Cross, and which Caracas described as “a Trojan horse” to potentially smuggle weapons to opposition forces in the country.

Despite all this Washington doesn’t recognize that it violates international law making. Instead, Moscow is responsible for different “international interventions” and threatening democracies worldwide, as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said during his latest tour of Europe.

‘Against international law’

Washington is leading a “revolution against international law and against international order,” with its calls for regime change and efforts to oust President Nicolas Maduro in favor of pro-US opposition leader Juan Guaido, former UN rapporteur to Venezuela and professor of law Alfred de Zayas told RT.

Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Gutierrez should “remind” the Lima Group of Western Hemisphere countries that US actions in Venezuela violate “articles 3, 19 and 20 of the Charter of the Organization of American States” (OAS) and that the charter should be “rigorously observed,” De Zayas said.

The OAS charter holds that no state has a right to intervene “directly or indirectly, for any reason whatever, in the internal or external affairs of any other State.” Neither can any member state “encourage the use of coercive measures of an economic or political character in order to force the sovereign will of another State.”

The violation of the charter has been “so crass and so obvious that you wouldn’t think that you would have to remind the Lima Group of it, but they seem to be caught in their own web,” de Zayas said.

No revolution of the people?

In spite of Washington’s best efforts, Maduro still enjoys the support of millions of Venezuelans who regard Guaido with suspicion, political analyst and editor at Venezuelanalysis.com Lucas Koerner told RT.

“There was an expectation that the Maduro government was going to come crashing down like a house of cards the moment the US and its allies recognized Guaido,” as interim president, Koerner said.

Five weeks later, the two countries are in an “awkward standoff” because Guaido has no real power in Venezuela, but Washington can’t backtrack having already dramatically declared him the legitimate president, Koerner said.

While the US political and media establishment make a big deal out of Venezuela’s military ties with Russia, those ties were partly the result of economic stonewalling and US pressure on Caracas going back to 2006, according to Koerner. That’s when the Bush administration prohibited the sale of spare parts for Venezuela’s fleet of [US built] F-16 aircraft, which “forced Venezuela to go to Russia to purchase the Sukhoi model aircraft which they currently are employing.”

“It’s important to note that it was US pressure on Caracas which effectively pushed Venezuela to seek these kinds of alliances” with countries like Russia and China, Koerner said.

He ruled out direct US military intervention just yet, saying it is likely that for now Washington will continue to pressure Caracas in other ways, focusing on stepping up sanctions and trying to “foment military insurrection” instead.

Tom Holland shared a cryptic tweet Monday in response to fans asking when the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer will be released, teasing that it would be any day now.

“So I spoke to Sony…” the tweet read.

The response came following a well known Marvel fan, Kirk Deveyck, who uploaded a video on Twitter for Holland on Saturday, demanding the trailer be dropped.

Comicbook reports that Deveyck did something similar for Avengers: Infinity War that ended up going viral, in which he landed a pass to the film’s Hollywood premiere. His current video has over 2 million views alone.

Holland first responded to Deveyck by saying, “I’ll see what I can do.” While including the laughing-crying emoji at the end. He then came back Monday morning with his current tweet, heavily hinting that the trailer will drop any day.

A rumor has since been circulating that the trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home will drop on Tuesday, Jan. 14th, from @gavinfeng97 on Twitter who said it came from people connected to Sony’s local partner in China.

The first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home was played during Sony’s panel at Brazil Comic Con in Sao Paulo, but Sony decided to hold off on publishing the trailer online following the event.

For the full trailer description, read IGN Brazil’s breakdown of the trailer, who were there to see it in person, and make sure you peek at Holland’s new Spider-Man suit in the sequel, which was revealed this past October.

In other Tom Holland news, the Uncharted movie now has a new director in Dan Trachtenberg and should begin filming after Holland’s press tour for Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The British government seems to be turning a blind eye to India’s most wanted fraudster, Nirav Modi, who found a safe harbor in London, despite an Interpol Red Notice and Indian authorities’ demands for his arrest and extradition.

Fugitive billionaire Nirav Modi is lavishly living in the open in London, despite being wanted back home for an alleged £2bn ($2.6bn) scam against India’s Punjab National Bank (PNB), the Telegraph has reported, after tracking down the elusive businessman.

“Modi was given a National Insurance number in recent months by the Department for Work & Pensions and has been able to operate online bank accounts in the UK while wanted by Indian authorities,” the publication reports, citing a well-placed source in the government.

If the allegations are true, the UK would effectively be harboring a man who has been placed on Interpol’s Red Notice list last July. India authorities in the past said that Modi was seen in the UK after fleeing the country last year, yet London failed to act on the world-wide police alert requesting a provisional arrest of the fugitive, pending extradition proceedings.

Fugitive billionaire jeweller Nirav Modi last seen in UK, Indian authorities claim

It appears that the celebrity jeweler tycoon had settled in well in the British capital, where he rents a three-bedroom flat in the landmark Centre Point tower block for about £17,000 ($22,000) a month. While slightly altering his appearance with a handlebar mustache, the man has been recorded strolling to and from his new business office in Soho, which specializes in the diamond trade.

“The business, which was incorporated last May, is linked to his flat in Centre Point although he is not listed as a director at Companies House,” the Telegraph reported, wondering how Modi’s presence remained unnoticed by the British authorities. When the publication asked Modi outside his office whether he’d applied for political asylum to enjoy such liberties, the billionaire refused to comment. The Home Office also refused to provide details.

Modi denies allegations of being involved in a multi-billion loan fraud conspiracy, through which he allegedly used the state-run bank to obtain advances for paying his overseas suppliers. His legal team accuses the Punjab National Bank of a cover-up to avoid liability for the missing funds.

While the fugitive continues to enjoy his posh lifestyle in the UK, Indian authorities demolished the accused fraudster’s massive sea-facing villa in Maharashtra’s Alibaug on Friday.

Seemingly leaked box art has revealed the next Far Cry game may be titled Far Cry: New Dawn.

Posted by Wario64 on Twitter, the potential cover art features the same lush post-apocalyptic setting and buzzsaw-blade-shooting crossbow highlighted in yesterday’s teaser trailer.

The potential Xbox One box art also hints at HDR and 4K support for Xbox One X. Ubisoft previously announced Far Cry: New Dawn, should that be the official title, will also be released for PlayStation 4 and PC.

It’s still unclear whether this will be a spinoff, a direct sequel to Far Cry 5, or an entirely new entry in the series. We’ll almost certainly have a definitive answer tonight when it’s officially revealed at The Game Awards 2018.

Locals made a grim discovery on the banks of the Amazon river in Brazil Friday, drawn to the grisly scene by masses of circling vultures overhead. In a clearing roughly 15 meters inland, they discovered a dead humpback whale calf.

Biologists from the NGO Bicho D’agua rushed to the scene to investigate the whale’s death before the vultures could mutilate the carcass further. However, when they arrived at the scene, the animal didn’t appear to have any wounds.

The marine mammal washed ashore during the Amazonian winter, when freshwater river flooding is widespread, which made the find all the more mysterious as whales typically only enter the Amazon Basin in summer when saltwater penetrates the vast system of rivers.

The roughly eight-meter-long, one-year-old calf was likely separated from its mother, and unfortunately became entangled in mangroves before being dragged ashore by high waves. The researchers took samples from the carcass to determine the cause of death. Calves can weigh up to 1.5 tons so the creature’s body will likely be left in-situ for the carrion to dispose of naturally.

“We only found the whale because of the presence of scavenging birds of prey. The vultures were spotted circling above the carcass which was found hidden in the bush some distance from the sea,” Darlene Silva from the Department of Health, Sanitation and Environment told Jornal O Liberal.

In 2007, a 5.5-meter (18 foot) minke whale became stranded and later died after being freed from a sandbar near the Amazonian city of Santarem, roughly 1,600 kilometres (994 miles) from the Atlantic Ocean.

Update #2: EA has officially commented on the reports that an open world Star Wars game has been canceled.

In a statement provided to IGN, a representative for EA said “the great work by our team in Vancouver continues and will evolve into future Star Wars content and games.”

EA’s full statement reads:

EA did not concretely confirm or deny Project Orca’s cancellation, but the statement seems to imply the work done so far will be possibly focused into new projects if indeed Orca has been canceled.

Update #1: Kotaku has updated its story, saying that new sources have now indicated that the cancelled Star Wars game was code-named Orca, and has been replaced with a “smaller-scale Star Wars project” at EA Vancouver.

Orca was reportedly deemed too long a project for EA’s current development road map – the new, smaller game is apparently tentatively scheduled for late 2020. Kotaku also indicates that some EA Vancouver workers hope Orca will re-enter development after the new game is completed.

More details about what Orca would have been have also emerged. The game would apparently have seen players taking on the role of a “scoundrel or bounty hunter who could explore various open-world planets and work with different factions across the Star Wars universe.”

According to a new report, EA’s open-world Star Wars game, in development following the closure of Visceral Games, has also been canceled.

Kotaku has reported this game’s alleged cancellation. According to Kotaku, this Star Wars game was the one announced following Visceral Games’ closure in 2017, which came alongside the cancellation of Amy Hennig’s game in production at the studio. Development resources at the time shifted from Visceral’s title, reportedly codenamed Ragtag, to this new, now reportedly canceled title.

IGN has reached out to EA for comment.

There is no new word on what EA Vancouver’s focus may be, and whether or not they will continue exploring potential Star Wars games.

At the time of its initial announcement, EA framed the closing of Visceral and the game’s status as a “refocusing” of Hennig’s title. EA said the intention was for it “to be a broader experience that allows for more variety and player agency, leaning into the capabilities of our Frostbite engine and reimagining central elements of the game to give players a Star Wars adventure of greater depth and breadth to explore.”

Following the closure of Visceral, EA Motive’s Jade Raymond, who has since left the studio, said they had plans to use work from Hennig’s project for the new Star Wars game.

Story and gameplay details then came out about Hennig’s canceled “Ragtag” project, with the intention of letting players control several members of a team of smugglers in the Star Wars universe. Todd Stashwick, who was co-writing the game with Hennig, called it “beautiful, amazing, fun, and funny.”

Hennig joined Visceral Games’ Star Wars project in 2014, following her departure from Naughty Dog. Later reports regarding the project suggested it would be a story-focused, Uncharted-esque game. Jade Raymond’s Motive Studio originally opened to collaborate with Visceral.

US President and dealmaker Donald Trump disparaged UK PM Theresa May’s negotiating skills, saying that Britain could have been spared the hot mess that is the Brexit process, if only she had listened to him.

May might have breathed a sigh of relief on Thursday when British MPs voted in favor of the government motion to ask the EU to extend Article 50 and delay Brexit until June 30, after two days of heavy defeats in Parliament. However, that does not mean her woes are over, as no consensus has been reached over the Brexit deal, with MPs refusing to ratify what May had negotiated with the EU, and the EU ruling out revising the deal, which in its latest form includes binding assurances on the so-called Irish ‘backstop’.

Trump, who has hailed the Brexit vote as “brave and brilliant,” commending Britons for “taking back control” of their country, has a simple explanation for why the whole thing has gone awry – Theresa May did not listen to his advice.

“I gave the prime minister my ideas on how to negotiate it. And I think you would’ve been successful. She didn’t listen to that, and that’s fine,” the president said.

Brexit or not, things will get worse unless neo-liberalism is brought to end – Ken Livingstone

Trump, co-author of The Art of the Deal, did not elaborate on what exactly he would do to smooth things over with the EU, saying only that he told May what to do, but she apparently neglected his wisdom and is now paying the price.

“But she has her own way of doing it. She is — she’s got her own way of doing it. That’s OK,” Trump said.

Trump has called May’s negotiating skills into question before. In November, he said the divorce agreement with the EU curtails the UK’s ability to strike a trade deal with the US, calling it a “great deal for the EU.”

While styling himself as a master deal-maker, Trump has not had a great track record so far in his presidency. After dragging the US into a record government shutdown over the border wall project he promised voters, he failed to secure the necessary funds. He now has to resort to using his veto powers to defy both the Democrat-controlled House and the Republican-controlled Senate in order to push through his national emergency declaration regarding the wall.
