Towson, Md. – St. Cloud State University senior athletes Stephanie Crandall (Woodbury), Jacob Kahnke (Shakopee) and Luke Weber (Mankato) are members of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men’s and Women’s At-Large Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The three athletes are First Team selections and bring to five the number of St. Cloud State student athletes honored at the highest level for their academic performance this year. They join senior football player Andrew Beckmann (Waseca), a first team pick and senior baseball player Phil Imholte (St. Cloud), a second team selection. Beckmann’s and Imholte’s honors were announced earlier this year.
A senior political science major with a 3.80 GPA, Crandall is a four-time All-American in the pool and three-time Husky of the Year. She was part of the 400-medley relay team that finished eighth at the NCAA Division II National Championships this past year, earning All-American honors and posting a school-record time in the prelims. She also qualified and competed in the 100-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle at the national championships. Crandall was a member of the 2013 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship swimming and diving team. She won conference titles including four relays and an individual title in the 100 butterfly. She is a two-time team captain and three-time record holder. She was named an NSIC Myles Brand Award recipient. Her successes went beyond academics and athletics, as she was an SCSU Excellence in Leadership Award Winner, and member of student government, Faculty Athletics Advisory Committee, Student Athlete Advisory Committee and an Earth Day Half Marathon volunteer.

Kahnke was a four-time All-American for the Huskies after transferring from Old Dominion. He capped his brilliant career with a third place finish at heavyweight at the 2013 NCAA National Championships, helping SCSU finish second as a team. He ended the year with a 23-1 record. In 2012, Kahnke earned his second straight runner-up finish at Nationals, finishing the year at 36-3 with 15 pins. He was 29-2 as a sophomore and posted a 30-7 record as a freshman. This season the Husky wrestling team won their second straight NSIC title, third straight NCAA Division II Super Region 3 Championship and for the third straight year placed as the national runner-up at the NCAA Division II Championships. St. Cloud State tied an NCAA Division II record with 47 consecutive dual match victories. A recreation and sport management major with a 3.42 GPA, Kahnke finished his career with 118 wins.
A biomedical science major with a 3.51 GPA, Weber capped off his career with a national championship in the 3-meter diving at the 2013 NCAA Division II National Swimming and Diving Championships. He earned a second place showing in the 1-meter dive competition. He was named as the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Male Diver of the Year. Weber is the school record holder on the 1- and 3-meter board and was the conference 1- and 3-meter champion in 2011 and 3-meter champion in 2010. An eight-time All-American diver, Weber was previously the runner-up on the 1-meter board in 2012, and finished third in the 3-meter in 2011. He was named as the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Male Diver of the Year twice.
Schools are allowed to nominate a total of six student-athletes, three male and three female, for the At-Large team.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution and be nominated by their sports information director.
The At-Large program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo, and wrestling for the men, and bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo for the women.
