Daniel Ricciardo is aiming to stay within touching distance of Mercedes and Ferrari this weekend at Baku, despite suggestions from Red Bull’s motorsports advisor that the circuit’s 2km main straight might result in their struggling to match the engine performance of their rivals.

Coming into the Grand Prix of Europe, Dr Helmet Marko has predicted that Red Bull might be as much as 1.2s off the pace of the team’s main competition through this part of the circuit.

“I hope he’s wrong, that sounds like a lot,” said a worried Ricciardo. “Let’s see. I hope we don’t lose that much.

“If we lose around that, let’s say we lose a second we can make up a bit of time in the corners. On Mercedes, probably not that much, they’ve got a good car as well but also Ferrari it’s probably minimal.

“On somebody like Williams we expect them to gain a bit on us down the straight but then in the corners I’m hoping our advantage takes over. 1.2 is big, I hope Helmet is wrong.”

Elsewhere the circuit is looking distinctly more promising for Ricciardo and his team mate Max Verstappen.

“There’s a lot of interesting parts, obviously everyone is talking about Turns eight, nine and 10, that looks fun. It looks pretty tight but I think obviously we are going to get pretty close to the wall there and push it to the limit.

“I think already at turns five and six that is quite technical. I think there will be two lines, whether you push on the entry of five and gain on that and lose a little bit out of six because the straight is not that long before Turn seven, so that could be interesting.

“I think Turn 16 is going to very crucial I think because then we’ve got full throttle for a long time. It will be important to get through there clean, any slide on the exit is going to kill your speed for the straight.

“[Turn 19] should be flat. I just spoke to my engineer now, he said don’t try and take it flat on the install lap but yeah I think by the time we get going and get some grip on the track it will be flat and it’s still before the DRS. If it was after the DRS then that would be a very interesting corner.”

And Ricciardo was looking forward to the challenging pit entry, which has attracted a degree of criticism from some parts for being potentially too dangerous.

“I actually think it’s going to be quite cool because pit entry is always a part you can gain a little bit of time. This one in particular I think if a driver gets it right and a driver doesn’t quite go in there as committed or makes a mistake, there’s easily half a second if not a second on that pit entry, between a good one and a bad one.

“You either crash or you lose a lot of time. It could be cool if you are battling someone in the race and you are trying an undercut or an overcut maybe what you do on the pit entry maybe dictate who wins that position.

“I like it actually, it looks good.”

Ricciardo promises to maintain intensity in Canada

November 28, 2019 | News | No Comments

Daniel Ricciardo says he will carry over the intensity from his Monaco Grand Prix performance when he gets back in the car in Canada this weekend.

Red Bull was quick in Monaco and Ricciardo secured the first pole position of his F1 career with a stunning lap. Having led the first part of the race, a pit stop error from Red Bull cost Ricciardo a chance of victory and left him downbeat following the race.

Having taken some time off, Ricciardo says he is focused on continuing his own strong form at this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix, the scene of his first F1 victory.

“Highs of last weekend was the qualifying, the low … probably don’t need to explain that!” Ricciardo said. “But definitely enough of that, moving on to Montreal, I’m hanging out for that. It’s a track I’ve obviously enjoyed a lot in the past.

“I’m just looking forward to getting back in the car. The feeling after Monaco was at the time I just wanted to get out and have some time off, which I have done. Now that I’ve sort of got over Monaco I just want to get back in the car and basically smash it and get amongst it.

“I’m going to get there fresh, recharged and you’re going to see the same intensity that you saw in Monaco and I plan on keeping that up and not letting anything else get in the way.”

Following his second place in Monaco, Ricciardo heads to Canada in third place in the drivers’ championship, 40 points behind leader Nico Rosberg.

Until a few years ago Mount Everest was that one those places where only the toughest of the toughest went and conquering the world’s tallest peak were celebrated. But over the years, any number of climbers have summited Everest and the numbers only keep growing. Nepal, which is one of the poorest countries in the world encouraged climbers from around the world to take an expedition to Mount Everest as it brought in some much-needed revenue for the country.

Budget expedition companies charge as little as $30,000 per climber, cutting costs including waste removal. This is now turning into a huge problem for the Himalayan nation.

The record number of climbers crowding the world’s highest mountain this season has left a government cleanup crew grappling with how to clear away everything from abandoned tents to human waste that threatens drinking water.

Everest has so much garbage — depleted oxygen cylinders, food packaging, rope — that climbers use the trash as a kind of signpost. But this year’s haul from an estimated 700 climbers, guides and porters on the mountain has been a shock to the ethnic Sherpas who worked on the government’s cleanup drive this spring.

Max Verstappen’s race weekend got off to a disappointing start in Baku on Friday, completing a limited number of laps out on the track before an oil leak sidelined him for the remainder of the morning session.

Although he was able to post the seventh fastest time in the afternoon after his car was repaired, Verstappen admitted that the loss of track time in the morning had inevitably put him on the back foot this weekend.

“Yes of course, if you don’t do that many laps in the first free practice – only three and they’re not on the limit – you miss a little bit of car set-up.

“From a driver point of view you also more few laps to get comfortable so that’s why the second practice was not perfect for us.

“We definitely have some work to do, but I’m not shocked – it’s okay. We still need to find a bit, but I think we have some very clever engineers up there to solve the problem.”

Verstappen said that he was enjoying the track overall, with its mix of slow tight corners and long fast straights.

“It’s quite okay to drive. Just sometimes the run-off areas are a bit tight. I went wide in turn 3 and I had to reverse twice to get out of it again, so that’s not ideal. But in general the track itself is quite fun to drive.

“Some kerbs are coming off I heard. I think out of turn six, I saw Sebastian went over the kerb and the kerb came up so we need to have a discussion. Maybe the exit of the pit lane is also not ideal so maybe open it up a bit. We’ll see.”

One thing that was noted by all teams was how much extra time drivers could make if they got into the slipstream or ‘tow’ of a car in front doen the two kilometre long straight. However Verstappen didn’t expect to see teams being able to make much use of this in qualifying.

“That would always help but the problem is you don’t have so much time in qualifying, so if one guy has to give up one lap then it’s maybe a chance he doesn’t make it to the next round of qualifying so it will be tricky but for sure it gives you three or four tenths.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Nebraska state champion Papillion-LaVista took over the top spot in this week’s NFCA Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll after two-time defending state champion East Coweta lost twice in the Georgia Class 7A elite eight at the South Commons Complex in Columbus, Ga.

The (36-0) Monarchs ascended to the throne for the first time, ending East Coweta’s run of nine straight weeks at the No. 1 spot. Papillion-LaVista captured its second Nebraska Class A championship in the last three years two weeks ago. It was the Monarchs’ fifth consecutive appearance in the state final.

East Coweta (33-2), meanwhile, suffered as many losses last week — two — as it has had in the last two previous seasons combined. After edging Parkview, 4-3 in 10 innings, last Thursday, the Indians were shocked by eventual Class 7A titlist Mountain View, 1-0 in eight, later that night. An 8-2 loss to Peachtree Ridge on Friday closed their season and ended a three-year run during which they went a remarkable 101-4.

Wesleyan (31-2) slipped one spot to fourth after falling to Georgia Class A private champion Mount de Sales twice last week. The Wolves lost 4-2 in their elite eight opener and then 2-0 in the title contest, after winning three games to earn the rematch.

Elsewhere, Columbine (25-2) moved up to No. 5 after capturing the Colorado state 5A crown, beating two-time defending titlist Legend in the quarterfinals on Friday; No. 6 Westfield (24-2) claimed the Georgia Independent School Association tournament; and Banks County (31-3) is now 19th after winning the Georgia state Class AA championship.

Erie (16-7) returned to the rankings this week at No. 21 after outslugging Golden, 13-9, in Saturday’s Colorado state Class 4A final.

State rankings submitted by NFCA member coaches are used to compile the NFCA Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.

Venom 2 : Tom Hardy affrontera bien Woody Harrelson

November 28, 2019 | News | No Comments
