Let’s get this out of the way: We are well aware that if a normal human attempted this look, there’s a fair chance she would resemble Cruella de Vil. But guys, Blake Lively is no normal human. In fact, I’m fairly convinced that she’s a god sent among us to demonstrate how to pull off fashion’s trickiest trends.

Case in point: these triple-mixed prints. Most of us plebeians would have second thoughts putting just two prints together in one outfit. Do these even go together? Does it look like I got dressed in the dark? Do these polka dots make my butt look big? But Lively decided that two prints just weren’t enough.

Instead, she layered on three different Michael Kors patterns, and the result can only be described as layered perfection. The mom-of-two bared her abs in a solid black crop top and high-waist black skirt with small white polka dots that hit mid-calf. Her next layer was a plush coat with a wide herringbone print, which she topped with a houndstooth coat draped over her shoulders.

She paired all of this with solid white stilettos, slightly wavy locks, and blush makeup, keeping the attention on her prints. The key here is keeping the patterns within the same color family, and not drawing any added attention via a pop of color on her feet. Even her jewelry is kept in the same color family with silver and white gold, because this fashionista is nothing if not dedicated to her craft.

Even her sister, Robyn Lively, who is pictured in the background in a black coat and embellished pumps, knows her little sis is a god among men. The Teen Witch star told InStyle earlier this week that she feels thrilled if Blake compliments an outfit she’s wearing. “I feel so good about myself, because Blake is a fashion icon, okay?” she told us.

She took the words right out of our mouths.

(TULSA, Okla.) — Federal prosecutors say a Chinese national employed by a U.S. petroleum company has pleaded guilty in federal court to stealing trade secrets from his employer.

Authorities say 35-year-old Hongjin Tan pleaded guilty on Tuesday in federal court in Tulsa to theft of a trade secret, unauthorized transmission of a trade secret and unauthorized possession of a trade secret.

A plea agreement calls for Tan to serve up to two years in prison and pay restitution of $150,000.

Tan’s attorney, Ryan Ray, hasn’t returned a telephone message seeking comment.

Court documents indicate Tan worked for Phillips 66 when he stole secrets related to the development of “next generation battery technologies” worth more than $1 billion.

Sentencing is set for February 2020.

Former Mercedes protégé Pascal Wehrlein has joined Ferrari in his capacity as a development driver for the 2019 season.

The Scuderia was in need of a simulator and development driver after the departures of Daniil Kvyat and Antonio Giovinazzi who handled those duties last season.

A former Manor and Sauber driver, Wehrlein was released from Mercedes at the end of last year. The 24-year-old was subsequently recruited by Mahindra to race in Formula E, but Wehrlein will split his time between the electric series and his commitments at Maranello.

Kubica admits Ferrari development role ‘not easy’ to turn down

Ferrari has yet to confirm Werlein’s hiring or offer any details regarding employing a second sim driver for its 2019 development programme.

Sebastian Vettel, the 2018 world championship runner-up, recently underscored the importance of the young drivers working behind the scenes, or back at Maranello on race weekends, and contributing to Ferrari’s development.

“We’re extremely thankful for the guys, taking in the time because it’s not the nicest job on Friday night, especially when you’re young, but it’s important, it all adds up,” said Vettel.

Racing Point’s Sergio Perez believes the 2019 season could see another jump forward from the ever improving Sauber outfit.

Thanks to a change of ownership in 2017 and extensive restructuring, Sauber avoided a painful demise from F1 and succeeded in putting itself back on track last season under the guidance of team boss Fred Vasseur.

Armed with the talent of the mercurial Charles Leclerc, Sauber became a regular top-ten contender in 2018, tightening even further F1’s mid-field.

Thanks to its continued close partnership with Ferrari, and buoyed by the recruitment of 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen, more progress is likely in the cards for the Hinwil squad, a prospect that isn’t lost on Perez.

Raikkonen looking forward to ‘pure racing’ at Sauber

“Sauber is a great team,” the Mexican told Motorsport.com.

“They went through a very difficult period for a couple of years, but now I think with the Ferrari relationship they are coming back.

“You see Fred [Vasseur] is a great team leader and I think they are making great progress.

“They are definitely the team to watch. This year they are going to be quite high up. I am looking forward for that.”

Sauber’s ability to sustain its momentum will likely be helped by the fact that it was able to start work on its 2019 design early in the year.

Team boss Fred Vasseur isn’t making any bold projections however, as he remains guarded over his rivals own progress as everyone contends with F1’s new rules and aero tweaks.

“We have good expectations but when you have a change like this in the regulations it’s a drastic one. You never know,” he said.

“You can take the wrong direction and we will understand this perhaps [only at testing] in Barcelona because nobody knows exactly what the others are doing.”

“We are fighting towards the top 10, and in terms of teams between P4 and P6, we have to do at least the same. It will be the target.”

Scuderia boss Mattia Binotto says Ferrari has raised the bar with its new-spec SF90, the work of an engineering team that tried to be as “extreme” as it could.

The Italian outfit unleashed on Friday the prancing horse it hopes will bring the title back to Maranello this year.

While many focused on the SF90’s distinctive matte red livery, a closer look revealed, among other features, a very tightly packaged rear end.

“In 2018 we got really good achievements, and this car is a development of last year’s car,” said Binotto who, as the Scuderia’s technical director last year, oversaw the SF90’s design process.

“It is not a revolution. We simply tried to push again to raise the bar, raise the level, and try to be as extreme as we could.

“There are a few changes that are straightforward, like the front wing that is for the technical regulations that have changed since last time.

“But if you look at it in all the details, certainly we try to push very hard, being innovative. The roll hoop is very narrow and very slim.

“And if you look at the bodywork at the back it is very, very slim, and that is thanks to the entire job, which you cannot see because it is below, in terms of engine installation and power installation packaging.

“A lot of effort has been done and I think the final shape is the result of all this effort. We like it.”

Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri led off Friday’s presentation in Maranello and paid tribute to Binotto’s loyalty and expertise.

“We begin a new exciting chapter in our history, led by Mattia Binotto.

“Mattia has been with Ferrari for about a quarter of a century. His stellar career over that period is clear testament to his exceptional abilities and leadership skills.

“He knows the Scuderia inside out. He is very much a team player, decisive, talented and determined to make a huge difference at all levels.

“I have every confidence that he will lead the Scuderia to ever greater heights.”

In all likelihood, Niki Lauda won’t be standing post in the Mercedes garage in Melbourne next month as the Austrian still has “a long way to go” on his path to a full recovery according to Helmut Marko.

The Mercedes non-executive chairman is still in recovery mode after a critical condition diagnosed in July led to a lung transplant for the Austrian.

While the surgery was deemed a success, Lauda underwent a lengthy convalescence period in intensive care and then at his home in Austria.

Lauda touched by hand-written letter from Vettel

Progress enabled the three-time world champion to travel to Ibiza in December where he unfortunately contracted a flu virus while celebrating Christmas with his family, and that was bad news for Lauda’s fragile immune system.

Caution dictated airlifting Lauda back to Vienna’s AKH hospital where he was kept under observation until mid-January.

“Lauda still has a long way to go, he needs a lot of patience,” said Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko. “Lauda will support his team by telephone.”

The Mercedes non-executive chairman will therefore be at home when the season kicks off, devoting himself to his daily sessions of physiotherapy as Lauda’s son explained to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Dad has undergone a complex operation and has had bad moments, but he has a strong character and is fighting,” said Mattias Lauda.

“He needs to do physiotherapy to recover his energies. He trains with fury and I hope that soon we will see him in shape.

“I speak to him every day. When I’m not there, with him there is my brother Lucas. One of us is still in Vienna.”

Renault’s engine reliability woes made a painful comeback in Bahrain, causing a double demise for the French team and some biting disparagement from Red Bull’s Christian Horner.

Nico Hulkenberg and Daniel Ricciardo retired within seconds of each other in the closing stages of Sunday’s race, the victims of apparent engine failures.

The double whammy deprived both drivers of a run in the points and underlined Ricciardo’s disastrous start with Renault.

Stunning simultaneous shut-down robs Renault of double points finish

Team boss Cyril Abiteboul was understandably troubled by the simultaneous demise of his cars, but also by the increasing number of teething issues.

“After a very intense winter, it’s been a very bad start to our racing season,” he said.

“Similar to Melbourne, our qualifying in Bahrain was massively compromised by minor electronics issues, which impacted both cars.

“Our race today came to a sudden stop so close to the finish. These are issues we have previously encountered but something we were unable to rectify in Bahrain.

“These problems are increasingly frustrating and unacceptable as both cars have shown very good competitiveness both over one-lap and race runs.

“We must react and shift our focus on reliability.”

As Hulkenberg and Ricciardo parked their crippled cars at Turn 2, the Safety Car was deployed to ensure their safe evacuation.

Unfortunately, this foiled Max Verstappen’s attempts to secure a podium finish for Red Bull, the Dutchman reeling in at that point the down-on-power Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.

Horner wasn’t about to pass up a chance to deride Red Bull’s former engine partner.

“Renault blowing up unfortunately didn’t help us see the podium,” he told the media.

“It’s ironic, isn’t it? Whether they’re in the car or out of the car!”

Ross Brawn, F1’s managing director of motorsport, says that the Haas F1 Team’s controversial model “must be maintained” in the future.

Haas entered Formula 1 in 2016 with a pioneering low-cost business model built on a close technical partnership with Ferrari.

However, the partnership generated controversy among the sport’s mid-field teams which frowned upon the far-reaching collaboration between Haas and Ferrari, with outfits such as Racing Point and Renault disputing the US squad’s legitimacy as a bona fide F1 constructor.

Worried Renault fears Haas precedent has ‘changed F1 forever’

Speaking to Sky F1’s Martin Brundle, Brawn believes the format exploited should be retained in the future, albeit with a few regulation tweaks.

“The Haas model is interesting and it has been very successful,” said the F1 boss.

“It’s something we have to maintain for the future, for a small team to come in and be pretty respectable.

“There’s some trimming we need to do about what they’ve been able to do.”

Brawn admitted that Haas simply took a concept that was legally written into the rules and leveraged on it.

“All credit to them, they took a model that was there which nobody had exploited as much as they did, and it’s a great story,” he added.

“The fans like seeing Haas up there beating up some of the big teams.

“We are finding the best solution where we have the right balance of manufacturers, the teams like Renault, McLaren and Williams that they can hold their place, but give that opportunity for Haas.”

A coalition of cyber activists and advocacy groups from 42 countries on Monday released a letter defending encryption and calling on governments to end efforts at undermining such digital privacy tools.

“Encryption tools, technologies, and services are essential to protect against harm and to shield our digital infrastructure and personal communications from unauthorized access,” reads the letter, a project of digital rights group Access Now and signed by organizations such as the ACLU, Amnesty International, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Fight for the Future, Human Rights Watch, and La Quadrature du Net, among nearly 200 others.

“As we move toward connecting the next billion users, restrictions on encryption in any country will likely have global impact,” the letter continues. “Encryption and other anonymizing tools and technologies enable lawyers, journalists, whistleblowers, and organizers to communicate freely across borders and to work to better their communities. It also assures users of the integrity of their data and authenticates individuals to companies, governments, and one another.”

U.S. officials have increasingly urged tech companies to create “backdoors” to encrypted communications as an aid to law enforcement investigating alleged terrorist activity. But many of those companies’ high-profile executives, such as Apple’s Tim Cook, have resisted the call, warning that reducing encryption safeguards threatens users’ safety online by making them vulnerable to third-party hackers.

And human rights leaders, such as United Nations special rapporteur for freedom of expression David Kaye, who also signed the letter, have said that privacy is a human right.

“Encryption and anonymity, and the security concepts behind them, provide the privacy and security necessary for the exercise of the right to freedom of opinion and expression in the digital age,” Kaye said in a press release accompanying the letter.

Last week, top U.S. officials met with tech leaders in a private summit in San Jose, California, with news reports circulating copies of a vague agenda for the meeting that read in part, “How can we make it harder for terrorists to use the internet to mobilize, facilitate, and operationalize attacks, and make it easier for law enforcement and the intelligence community to identify terrorist operatives and prevent attacks?”

At least one executive told the Guardian that White House chief of staff Denis McDonough issued invitations to discuss terrorism, making the surprise focus on encryption feel like a “bait and switch.”

As Guardian columnist and Freedom of the Press co-founder Trevor Timm explained at the time, “Despite the huge security benefits to encryption and the fact that it has not played a significant role in any of the recent terrorist attacks, the FBI has been on a warpath to get tech companies to stop using end-to-end encryption in some of their communications tools, essentially asking tech giants to give the government a ‘backdoor’ to make sure there is not any communication platform that they cannot spy on.”

Timm is also a signatory to the letter. As its list of international backers reflects, the push for backdoors to encryption is growing throughout the world.

In November, just days after the attacks in Paris which killed 130 people, French President François Hollande announced that he would propose a bill to extend the country’s state of emergency by three months and make changes to the French Constitution that would strip citizenship of convicted terrorists, increase surveillance, and employ “more sophisticated methods” to curb the weapons trade.

That announcement was met with skepticism and warnings from digital rights groups who said reflexive nationalism and reduction of civil liberties “is not only irreverent, it also [puts] us and many others in a difficult position,” as the German organization Digitalcourage put it. “Grief and anger are understandable emotions. But they must not be abused.”

Monday’s letter concluded, “Strong encryption and the secure tools and systems that rely on it are critical to improving cybersecurity, fostering the digital economy, and protecting users. Our continued ability to leverage the internet for global growth and prosperity and as a tool for organizers and activists requires the ability and the right to communicate privately and securely through trustworthy networks.”

Shanghai to kickstart global F1 Festival campaign

November 16, 2019 | News | No Comments

Shanghai will host the first F1 Festival of the 2019 season next week, in the build-up to the Chinese Grand Prix, the 1000th race of the F1 World Championship.

Formula 1 will leverage on the success of last year’s festival events and bring the sport to the streets of Shanghai, Chicago, Los Angeles and to a yet to be named city in Brazil.

Next week’s Heineken F1 Festival will be open to the public and take place in downtown Shanghai on April 12-13, with festivities including a celebration of the China Grand Prix as the 1000th race in the history of the F1 world championship.

The event will also feature an array of music acts and exciting entertainment, followed by the F1 Live car run on April 13 in which will take part Renault development driver and Chinese rising star Guanyu Zhou.

The 19-year-old – onboard Renault’s E-20 machine – will become the first Chinese driver to power down the roads of Shanghai in an F1 car.

“I’m very excited to drive the Renault F1 Team E20 Formula 1 car in Shanghai, my hometown,” said Zhou.

“It’s really an amazing opportunity for me. The city centre, which is already a busy place, will be blocked off for this demonstration run and that will be an incredible sight.

“To be part of that is going to be really special.”

Formula 1 will issue in due course the key dates for its Chicago, Los Angeles and Brazilian festivals.

“Following the huge success last season, we are thrilled to announce all four F1 Festivals for 2019,” said F1 commercial boss Sean Bratches.

“We are committed to enhancing fan experience of F1 and continue to explore new ways of exposing fans to the sport.

“We believe it’s vital to take F1 into the cities so that fans can immerse themselves in the race day atmosphere.

“By announcing three new festival locations we hope fans around the world are excited to see what F1 Festivals have to offer and we are thrilled to be returning to China for the F1 Heineken Shanghai Festival to celebrate our 1000th Grand Prix.”
