The 90th annual Academy Awards were historic for many reasons.

Yes, celebrities like Margot Robbie, Lupita Nyong’o, Nicole Kidman, and Danai Gurira were among the best dressed on the red carpet. And yes, we’re seriously petitioning for Tiffany Haddish and Mara Rudolph to host next year’s show together. But trust us, all of the action that’s worth paying attention actually happens off camera—and sometimes even inside the bathrooms.

That’s why we’ve brought you fun facts and a list of every hilarious Oscars 2018 moment you definitely didn’t catch on TV or via Twitter. From Emma Stone reaching into her purse for goodies to what Leslie Mann kept reapplying in front of the mirror, these are the best of the best moments.

3. Allison Janney using the men’s bathroom instead of the women’s, and leaving her Oscar on the bar outside as a friend watched the door. Immediately, people at the bar started taking selfies with Janney’s Oscar until she emerged from the men’s room and broke out into a fit of laughter.

4. Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer hugging it out during commercial break, then continuing to chat back and forth all night. Armie was sitting right behind Timothée.

5. Ansel Elgort and pal Timothée Chalamet taking selfies together 10 seconds before the return from a commercial break, and camera crews trying to get them to sit back down in time.

Roger Stone, a former adviser to President Trump, departs a Washington, D.C., courthouse with his wife on Monday. Stone faces charges that he allegedly lied to Congress and obstructed an official proceeding. Stone has pleaded not guilty, and his trial is set to begin Tuesday.

President Trump’s friend and political adviser Roger Stone is set to go on trial Tuesday in a proceeding that could reveal just how close Trump world got to the Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Jury selection is scheduled to commence following months of unusual public silence from Stone, who has been gagged by the judge in his case following a flap this year over his posts on social media.

Stone pleaded not guilty in January after a grand jury in Washington, D.C., returned an indictment with one count of obstructing a proceeding, five counts of making false statements to Congress and one count of witness tampering — because prosecutors allege that he tried to persuade another witness to lie to Congress too.

Neither Stone nor any other Trump insider has been charged with colluding with Russia’s interference in the 2016 election; former Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller concluded that there wasn’t enough evidence to bring a case of conspiracy.

Stone says he has done nothing wrong.

He joined Trump and others in blaming “biased” officials within the “deep state” for abusing their powers.

One of the targets for that blame earlier this year was the judge in his case, Amy Berman Jackson, whom Stone’s Instagram account then made the subject of criticism.

Jackson summoned Stone to court for a warning, and then, after what she determined was too little care by him or those with access to his social media accounts, Jackson tightened the gag in July.

Chain of contacts

Stone and some of his associates may have been links in a chain that connected Trump in New York City with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in London, who at the time had confined himself in the Ecuadorian Embassy there.

Assange, in turn, was in contact with Russia’s military intelligence agency, the GRU, which had stolen a trove of embarrassing material from political targets in the United States.

WikiLeaks released many of those emails and other documents with disruptive effects on political life in the U.S. — and enjoyed public encouragement by Trump and his campaign.

What Mueller’s investigation revealed was how much Trump and aides worked to get more.

The campaign built into its plans the expectation that there would be more damaging revelations about Hillary Clinton, and Trump’s campaign bosses also sought contact with some people connected with the interference over the course of the election season.

Charging documents in Stone’s case describe a message from one of Stone’s contacts depicting the person in a photo taken outside the Ecuadorian Embassy — implying that he’d visited Assange — and other messages in which Stone and associates discuss the prospect of more “dumps” from WikiLeaks.

WikiLeaks released a trove of emails by Clinton’s campaign chairman in October 2016 on the same day that a video recording appeared of Trump boasting in crude terms about his power over women.

Investigators never established publicly whether there was any connection between these two events.

Although Trump campaign bosses praised Stone at the time the WikiLeaks release took place, he has since argued that he actually took no action and simply let his interlocutors believe he was stage-managing events that were playing out on their own.

Also, at least one of Stone’s associates is described in court documents as saying that he too actually had no back channel to Assange.

The charges

Prosecutors allege that Stone lied about much of this to Congress.

He told lawmakers he didn’t have any emails, text messages or other documents related to the matter. Prosecutors also charge that Stone lied about his communications with others, including the associates whom he allegedly told to be in contact with Assange.

In the case of one other potential witness, Stone is described in charging documents as urging him to copy a character from The Godfather Part II, Frank Pentangeli, and pretend, when he appears for a hearing before members of Congress, not to know what he really knows.

What’s less clear is how much Stone talked about WikiLeaks with Trump and campaign aides.

The section of Volume I of Mueller’s report that describes Trump’s enthusiasm about getting Clinton’s emails, pages 52 through 57, are heavily redacted, but they suggest that Trump and campaign chairman Paul Manafort were personally involved.

The explanation given for the redactions was “harm to ongoing matter,” presumably the prosecution of Stone. If the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia reveals those previously redacted details in court to establish facts that it says prove what Stone lied about, key areas of the story could be confirmed for the first time.

For example, did Stone or his associates truly communicate with Assange, and if so, how? Was the nature of that link purely about the stolen political material, or was there more?

A section in Stone’s indictment describes how one putative intermediary told Stone that Trump’s campaign should begin drawing attention to Clinton’s supposed ill health, as it later did. What was the origin of that messaging strategy, and were there other offers like it?

Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman seem to be one of Hollywood’s most functional couples, but before the country star met his future wife, he admits that he was terrible at relationships.

“Before I got married, I sucked at relationships. I couldn’t give myself to a relationship. But I’d write songs about love and relationships,” Urban said in a speech at South by Southwest, according to Rolling Stone.

He recalled playing a love song that he wrote for his then-girlfriend, who was not pleased. “She looked at me and said, ‘You’re a fucking hypocrite.’ And I couldn’t argue. I realized I was writing from the place of the person I wanted to be,” he said.

Part of his relationship problems stemmed from his alcohol addiction, which he didn’t kick for good until after he married Kidman. Now, he’s been sober for 12 years. “It’s something I needed because I’m alcoholically wired. I wish I’d gotten sober many years earlier than I did, but it is what it is,” he said. “I knew I wasn’t at my full potential, and that’s what was starting to get to me. I was enslaved … I was living a very, very small life.”

Urban has opened up a bit about his addictions in the past, revealing that he went to rehab twice before marrying Kidman, but was still using drugs and alcohol. Four months into their marriage, the actress staged an intervention, and Urban finally got sober for good.

In a Rolling Stone interview back in 2016, the country star revealed the deep depression he was in while using coke and Ecstasy. “I didn’t seem able to stop. There was no stopping this time. I’d go to sleep, wake up a couple of hours later, go at it again, drinking to take the edge off. I remember thinking, ‘I’m probably not going to make it until tomorrow.’ And then I thought, ‘Fuck it. I really don’t care. It’ll be a relief to not have to. I’ll take an Ambien and at some point I’ll pass.’ I was taking everything. I remember thinking, ‘Oh, good, this is the end of it, yahoo.’ I was quite happy about it,’” he said.

In that interview, Urban affirmed once more that Kidman was the one to pull him out of his addiction. “I was spiritually awoken with her. I use the expression ‘I was born into her,’ and that’s how I feel. And for the first time in my life, I could shake off the shackles of addiction.”

McDonald’s celebrated International Women’s Day on Thursday by making an unprecedented move for the company. The global brand flipped its arches from an “M” to a “W” to support women’s rights and recognize their contributions.

“In celebration of women everywhere, and for the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches for International Women’s Day on March 8 in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere and especially in our restaurants,” Global Chief Diversity Officer Wendy Lewis wrote in a statement.

“Additionally, in select 100 restaurants across the U.S., guests will see packaging, crew shirts and hats all celebrating International Women’s Day. We’re celebrating our employees, franchisees, suppliers, community partners and customers for all that they do today, and every day,” a representative told InStyle in a statement.

The blog post goes on to detail women in power throughout the company, saying that 62 percent of McDonald’s employees are female, and six out of every 10 restaurant managers are women, stats that were echoed in a statement that McDonald’s gave to InStyle.

The company highlighted women like Patricia Williams, who became an owner-operator 30 years ago, is still running her own business, and is encouraging her two daughters to join in as well, and pointed out its contributions to Archways to Opportunity, a program that provides tuition assistance, academic advising services, and English language courses to help employees realize their full potential.

The impassioned blog post, though, didn’t stop people from pointing out the flaws in the brand’s tribute to women. People quickly branded it as “McFeminism” and a corporate marketing ploy.

“It’s cheaper to change all our signs than pay our women (and men) employees a living wage,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Maybe a living wage? Better family leave? A career path forward in the face of automation?” another criticized.

Others have also pointed out complaints of sexual harassment that appear to go unnoticed in the company. A Huffington Post piece in 2016 detailed the experiences of hourly workers in eight states who filed reports of being sexually harassed by fellow McDonald’s employees, with allegations that included groping, being propositioned for sex, and being shown nude photos at work.

By all means, McDonald’s, flip your arches—but don’t let that be your only move.

With only a few days to go before the 2018 Oscars, men in Hollywood are being more vocal about their support for the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements through a brand-new initiative.

A group of industry men, including actors David Arquette and David Schwimmer, co-signed an open letter in The Hollywood Reporter to introduce the #AskMoreOfHim campaign. The goal of the project is to encourage men to use their power and platforms to support survivors of sexual harassment while also combating it.

The letter begins by addressing the many people who have spoken out about their personal experiences with sexual harassment and abuse by men.

“We applaud the courage and pledge our support to the courageous women—and men, and gender non-conforming individuals—who have come forward to recount their experiences of harassment, abuse, and violence at the hands of men in our country,” the letter said. “It is never easy for someone who’s been harassed or bullied to speak up, especially when the abuse is sexual. These people are our colleagues and friends. They are fellow artists and craftspeople. They are also our partners, siblings, parents, and children. We are in awe of their strength and commitment to speaking truth to power.”

The letter points out that the sentiment, while nice, doesn’t cut it.

“But our awe is not enough. As men, we have a special responsibility to prevent abuse from happening in the first place. After all, the vast majority of sexual harassment, abuse, and violence is perpetrated by men, whether in Hollywood or not. And in entertainment—like many industries—men continue to hold most of the decision-making power. Therefore, one of the most powerful things that men can and must do is make it clear to other men—including their friends, colleagues and co-workers—that sexual harassment and abuse are never acceptable. This goes for everything from sexist and degrading comments, right up to domestic violence and sexual assault.”

The goal of the letter is to pledge support to victims and to set a new standard for men for speaking out against sexism and holding other men accountable in their daily lives. See the full list of signees here.

The #AskMoreOfMen activism is particularly relevant ahead of the 2018 Oscars red carpet, where Time’s Up and #MeToo will be a topic of discussion. The red carpets at awards shows this season have been dominated by actresses and activists making statements on women’s rights and fighting abuse, including the all-black dress code of the Golden Globes and the white rose sentiment of the Grammys.

It remains to be seen how #AskMoreOfMen might ignite change for people attending the Academy Awards, but with only two days left to go until the big day, it won’t take long to find out.

Kris Jenner started off her Oscars Sunday by casting a vote of support for Ryan Seacrest as he faces claims of sexual misconduct from a former E! News stylist.

Last week, Seacrest again denied stylist Suzy Hardy’s allegations, published in depth in an interview with Variety Monday. She claimed the TV host, now 43, sexually assaulted her multiple times over the six years that she was employed by the network from 2007-13, including grabbing her crotch multiple times.

He initially released a rebuttal in November when the accusations first surfaced. An E! investigation into the claims concluded on Feb. 1 that there was “insufficient evidence to support the claims.” Last week, he accused Hardy of attempting to blackmail him.

In the wake of the detailed Variety interview, there has been a question about whether or not celebrities will stop to speak with Seacrest on the Oscars red carpet to continue showing support for the Time’s Up initiative. However, E! confirmed that business will continue as usual, and he indeed kicked off the network’s red carpet show Sunday night.

Seacrest’s other employers American Idol and iHeartRadio are continuing to support him, and his girlfriend Shayna Taylor and his Live with Kelly and Ryan co-host Kelly Ripa have also expressed their support for the TV personality.

“I cannot wait to see you there,” Ripa, 47, said of the Oscars during their show. “I am very excited. And I just want you to know, you are a privilege to work with and I adore you. Speaking on behalf of all of us here, I know what a easy, professional, great person you are, and I feel very, very lucky to work with you each and every day.”

The 90th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be broadcast live on the ABC Television Network at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Back in 2009, The Hills reality TV star Heidi Montag caused a stir when it was discovered that she had 10 body-altering surgeries in the span of one day. Response to the move was mostly judgmental, but now, Montag is opening up about the scary reality of that day for her and her husband Spencer Pratt.

She admitted in a Paper magazine interview released Thursday that during the surgeries, her heart stopped and she was dead for a minute.

“Spencer thought he lost me,” she said. “I died for a minute. With that much surgery, I had to have 24-hour nurse care and Spencer didn’t want to leave my side. I was at a recovery center and had Demerol to deal with the pain because it was so extreme. My security guards called Spencer and told him, ‘Heidi’s heart stopped. She’s not going to make it.’ And I easily could’ve. Cutting yourself up isn’t something I’d recommend, and Demerol isn’t anything to play around with. That’s how Michael Jackson died.”

While that day is now far in the past, it forced her to reevaluate her life and her priorities. Now, she and Pratt have a six-month-old son Gunner, and her focus has shifted away from body modification.

“A lot of positive things came out of that. I had to look at myself in the mirror every day healing, and be like, ‘What did I do to myself? How did I get here? What is going on?'” she said.

“I basically had to hit that rock-bottom moment in my life, to realize what was important to me.”

Kristen Bell doesn’t think Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan’s split announcement is necessarily heartbreaking news.

Bell, 37, told E! News at the This Bar Saves Lives event on Thursday that she understands that “people need to look up to other relationships,” but added, “I also think we’re not looking at the whole picture when we sort of idolize the relationship.”

Addressing Tatum and Dewan specifically, the actress told the outlet, “Like those two, that may be a better path for both of them and they’re both lovely people and they’re still friends and that’s OK. It’s OK to feel like, ‘I went through 10 years with you, I love you and now I feel like I want something different and so do you.’ ”

“Like it doesn’t have to be a heartbreak, I guess is what I mean. It could actually be the healthiest thing for both individuals to thrive and it could also be the best example for your kids,” the actress added.

Bell, who has been married to actor Dax Shepard since 2013, acknowledged that marriages in the spotlight can be “a lot of pressure,” but has high hopes for her relationship with Shepard, with whom she shares two children, daughters Lincoln, 5, and Delta, 3.

“Well I’ll tell you this, I highly doubt we will ever break up because we’re just…we’re in too deep and I like him too much. Even when he’s annoying I really like him,” she told E! News. “I’m still like, ‘I still wanna be on the porch with you when I’m 80, but I really need you to get out of my face right now.’”

Tatum and Dewan, both 37, announced they were separating after nearly nine years of marriage in a joint statement exclusive to People on Monday.

“We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple,” the pair said. “We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now.”

Days after the couple made their announcement, a rep for the actress denied rumors that Tatum’s partying and flirting caused the split.

“Happy to clarify that absolutely none of these rumors are true,” Dewan’s rep told People. “The reason our statement was so positive [was] because that’s the reality of the situation.”

A source previously told People the couple’s “separation was a long time coming.”

“They both took a long time to work on their marriage and to figure out what they wanted. It’s not anything rushed,” the source continued.

Despite their split, the pair “will continue to be the best parents to Everly,” the source added, referencing their 4-year-old daughter.

“Like other couples, they have had arguments and disagreements,” the source said, “but they were always very conscious about giving their daughter lots love and a great life.”
