WWE Champion A.J. Styles recently appeared as a guest on The Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast for an in-depth interview. Featured below are some of the highlights.

On if he plays video games at home: “Everybody knows that [I need my alone time], that is why they have their Xbox and I have mine. My oldest son got one for Christmas a couple of years ago so he plays his. I got the XBox 1X, and I gave my other son the Xbox 1S, so everybody has their own Xbox and Nintendo Switch. There are times when they are up late at night playing their video games, and it’s really hard for me to get on them because I am up doing the same thing. There’s actually a proud part of me that is happy they embrace playing video games, but then there’s this other part of me that understands what other parents were saying [about video games] a long time ago. I am really making them angry here.”

On if he feels he would have felt like an accomplished pro had he never signed with WWE: “I would have been happy in my career even if I hadn’t come to WWE. I have accomplished so much more than I thought I could. I have always had confidence in myself, but sometimes you need a little bit of help to get to the next level. So, the fact that I was able to accomplish as much as I did without WWE I believe is a big deal. It sure is a relief that I got here and am able to do well. If you can do well in WWE, you have accomplished something.”

On not taking as many risks now as he did when working the independent scene: “There was something that happened to me on the indies where it really made me change the way that I think. On the independent shows these guys were doing crazy dives, so I thought, ‘well, gosh, what am I going to do?’ I did a simple dive but made it look pretty and graceful and it got the same response if I would have done a crazy dive. I then thought, ‘wait a minute, so you have to make stuff look effortless, and smooth and the way you do it rather than what you do’. You have to have a mix of both to see where they fit, and the only way that you would know is through experience. People think that I have gotten older that is why I am slowing down, but that’s not the case. It just doesn’t fit, that is why it’s not there anymore. So many things are like that.”

On Daniel Bryan returning to the ring: “Selfishly, I was hoping he [Bryan] would have gotten cleared before. Did I expect him to be cleared? No, but the fact that he did is awesome. Reminded me of when Shawn Michaels came back. I remember just praying for him to not get hurt because you just never know, and then he goes out and becomes Shawn Michaels. I feel like I am in the best run of my career as well.”

WWE Hall Of Famer “Mean” Gene Okerlund recently appeared as a guest on CBS Sports’ In This Corner podcast to talk about his new Mountain Dew commercial with Kevin Hart and more. Featured below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On his new Mountain Dew commercial with actor / comedian Kevin Hart: “Well it takes me back just about 30 years ago. I’ve been in this game for quite a while, matter of fact, [it’s] my 47th year. Mountain Dew’s Kickstart commercial and the opportunity to work with Kevin Hart, I knew it was gonna be a treat. And we had so much fun and time on the set, that we go to do back and forth banter that I found very entertaining. I knew this was coming because our good friend, The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, told me all about Kevin Hart and I was really looking forward to it. Everything that I expected.”

On whether or not Kevin Hart has the wrestling foundation as a fan: “I think he does. Very much, and candidly, he’s not afraid to let his hair down like, well let’s just say for instance, the ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage, or a Ric Flair, or a Hulk Hogan, or a ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper. Guys that you and I know very well from the past, they’re legends. And, all of a sudden, here comes Kevin Hart to the table, along with all he is doing in entertainment today, and working with the guy, for me, was a real, real pleasure.”

Also during the interview, Okerlund was asked outright whether or not he believes Hulk Hogan will ever return to WWE, to which he replied, “Yes.”

WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin recently spent some time discussing his old “Ringmaster” gimmick in his early days in WWE during a recent episode of his Steve Austin Show podcast.

During the show, “The Texas Rattlesnake” revealed that Bruce Willis’ character “Butch Coolidge” in the famous Quentin Tarantino film “Pulp Fiction” inspired the buzzcut look he had with his “Ringmaster” character.

“I came in as ‘The Ringmaster’ and I had that buzzcut and that was inspired by the Pulp Fiction movie, Bruce Willis’s character, and that one night, I’ve told this story many times, but we were working Pittsburgh [Pennsylvania], Mellon Arena, and I was traveling with Dustin Rhodes, Goldust, and I said, ‘man, eff-it, I’m going to shave all this sh*t off, can’t see it either way.’ I grew in the goatee, came up with the ‘Stone Cold’ gimmick, and that’s when all of the pieces started falling into place,” said Austin. “That’s when I got some direction.”

Austin continued, “I’d just seen a light at the end of the tunnel.” Austin added, “it turns out losing my hair was the best thing that ever happened to me. ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin would not have been ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin had that hair remained. Bald head plus ‘Stone Cold’, great gimmick, hard work, great storylines, great creative, great opponents, equals money. And that’s the bottom line.”

Top Flight vs. The Hybrid 2 set for AEW Dynamite

November 26, 2020 | News | No Comments

A new tag team match has been added to Dynamite.

The Hybrid 2 (Angelico & Jack Evans) will face the new team of Top Flight (Darius and Duante Martin) on Wednesday’s show.

This is based on an angle that ran during last week’s Dynamite. Top Flight had a back and forth match against the Young Bucks, but ended up losing. After the match, Hybrid 2 attacked Top Flight. The Young Bucks made the save, then raised the hands of the new team, showing them respect.

It was announced on Monday that Top Flight had signed contracts with AEW. They have been wrestling for the company since late October, appearing on two episodes of AEW Dark. Previously, Top Flight has wrestled for the likes of GCW, Black Label Pro, and AAW.

Two South American nations, Venezuela and Nicaragua, indicated Friday that there may be some relief for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, who for the past 14 days has unsuccessfully sought political asylum from a number of nations, all the while remaining trapped in the purgutory of Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport.

“As head of state of the Bolivarian republic of Venezuela, I have decided to offer humanitarian asylum to the young Snowden […] to protect this young man from the persecution launched by the most powerful empire in the world,” Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said—alluding to the United States—during an independence day speech in Caracas on Friday.

“I announced to the friendly governments of the world that we have decided to offer this international human right to protect this young man,” he continued, adding that several other Latin American governments have also expressed their intention of taking a similar stance by offering asylum for the cause of “dignity,” AP reports.

The speech followed an earlier statement by Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega during which he announced: “We are open, respectful of the right to asylum, and it is clear that if circumstances permit it, we would receive Snowden with pleasure and give him asylum here in Nicaragua.”

“We have the sovereign right to help a person who felt remorse after finding out how the United States was using technology to spy on the whole world, and especially its European allies,” Ortega added.

However, it remains unclear how Snowden might reach another nation as US authorities have stripped him of his passport and a refugee pass—initially believed to have been offered to him by Ecuador—has since been declared invalid.

Both announcements came a day after South American leaders blasted the United States for their presumed roll in the forced re-routing and downing of Bolivian President Evo Morales’ airplane for suspicions that Snowden was onboard.

Also Friday, WikiLeaks announced in a message posted on twitter that Snowden had applied for asylum in six additional countries though they would remain undisclosed “due to attempted US interference.”

As noted, WWE returns to the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas for a television taping this evening. In addition to SmackDown Live, the company will also present the latest episode of 205 Live.

WWE.com released the following preview for tonight’s show:

WWE 205 Live preview, June 5, 2018: Murphy and Ali to battle in blockbuster main event

WWE 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick has announced a major main event contest for tonight – Mustafa Ali vs. Buddy Murphy. Plus, Lince Dorado gets an opportunity for redemption against The Brian Kendrick.

Can The Lucha House Party rebound from defeat?

Last week on WWE 205 Live, Lince Dorado and Kalisto squared off against The Brian Kendrick and Gentleman Jack Gallagher in a grueling tag team match that highlighted the contrasting styles of the high-flying luchadores and the more aggressive technical abilities of Kendrick and Gallagher. Displaying their resilience and teamwork, Kalisto and The Golden Lynx built up a great deal of momentum late in the contest with victory in their sights until Drew Gulak – watching from the announce table – intervened. Knocking Dorado off the top rope, Gulak allowed The Brian Kendrick to apply his patented Captain’s Hook to secure the win.

With The Lucha House Party seeking retribution for their underhanded defeat, WWE 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick has announced that Dorado and Kendrick will battle in singles competition. While The Golden Lynx will certainly have the support of his lucha brothers in his corner, after Drew Gulak’s actions last week and his apparent alliance with Kendrick and Gallagher, will The Philadelphia Stretcher make his presence felt once again in his quest for a better WWE 205 Live?

Mustafa Ali and Buddy Murphy vie to return to title contention

WWE 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick is determined to ensure that WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander has a challenger and has announced that Mustafa Ali and Buddy Murphy will square off in a blockbuster main event. While the match does not guarantee a title opportunity, it allows Murphy and Ali to make their case about why they should earn another chance to challenge for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

Not only are there huge implications for this contest, but the battle also serves as a rubber match between the Superstars. During the WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament, Ali vanquished Murphy in the quarterfinals before going on to face Alexander for the vacant title at WrestleMania. Last month, however, the Australian Superstar returned the favor and defeated The Heart of WWE 205 Live, convincing Maverick that he deserved a title opportunity.

Although Murphy couldn’t secure the championship and end The Age of Alexander last week, he certainly proved himself to be a formidable challenger and earned the respect of the titleholder after a hard-fought throwdown.

Which Superstar will show Drake Maverick and the WWE Universe that they deserve another chance to claim the coveted WWE Cruiserweight Championship? Don’t miss WWE 205 Live, tonight at 10/9 C on the award-winning WWE Network!
