UFC President Dana White: “CM Punk Is Interested In Fighting, We’re Gonna Talk Tonight In Vegas”

NXT announcer Alex Riley recently spoke to Chad Dukes of CBS Radio Washington DC 106.7 The Fan. He discussed his return to the ring, the #FreeRiley hash tag and more. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

His Recent Match With Tyson Kidd At The WWE Live Event in Fairfax, Virginia:

“I wasn’t nervous man, I was just excited. I was just so excited to get an opportunity to get back out there again because I really have missed it so much, being inside the ring and continuing to be an athlete doing all that stuff. When I drew the lucky Tyson Kidd draw for a match, because I really didn’t have any idea who I was gonna be with, that just kinda made me more excited because he’s such a pro. What a competitor and a great opponent.”

The #FreeRiley Hashtag:

“This guy had wrote a review of the match and talked about ‘hey we need to get this guy back in the ring and let him wrestle a bit’ and #Free Riley. So I was like that’s great, it’s short, it’s concise, people get it, and I believe in it.  I certainly don’t feel like I’m in a cage per se, I’m getting a hell of an opportunity to be a commentator, but I’m one of those guys who I wake up and its the first thing on my mind, it’s the first thing, I wake up I go right to the gym.  I’m very dedicated to every single detail of this business and what it takes to be great in this business.”

“The Free Riley is like let me go out, let me do everything that I can do.  Let me fulfill all this potential I have.  Let me put all this passion into everything.”

Bray Wyatt:

“I’m a huge fan of what Bray Wyatt has done.  He’s a guy that was kinda written off.  He was sent back down to FCW they didn’t really have a plan for him, although they knew he had talent and they didn’t know what they were gonna do with it.  He was faced with either create something, be something, do something out of the park or find another gig and when you’re faced with that there’s a lot of pressure…”

He came back, he was Bray Wyatt.  He’s an incredible speaker, so charismatic, he’s good in the ring, and honestly he’s a good dude.  He’s a hard working guy.  He’s a guy that really cares about the details, he wants everything to be 100% correct.  I just appreciate guys like that and I’d love to work with him for that reason.”

The following are highlights of a new Newsday interview with Lucha Underground wrestler Chavo Guerrero Jr.

On criticism of Lucha Underground featuring ex-WWE stars like John Morrison (as Johnny Mundo): “If they couldn’t do that style, I would see the difference. If they pushed a guy with big name brand recognition who can’t do lucha libre, who is kind of just adding name value, I would see people getting upset. But you have a John Morrison, who can do things in the ring that a lot of even the Latino luchadors can’t. So it’s not like he’s a charity case.”

On Lucha Underground’s unique production style: “If you look at any other wrestling show, they’re filming backstage segments and promos on video with one camera. We’re filming them like a movie. We have lighting, a props department, wardrobe. We’re filming them from all sorts of camera angles, spliced together with music in the background. I think, and not just because I’m working there, that this is the best wrestling product on the market. The best.”

On what Eddie Guerrero would have thought of Lucha Underground: “He would have loved this. This product is so different and gritty. I know he would be asking, ‘How do I become part of this. His wrestling IQ was off the charts . . . As great as [Lucha Underground] is now, it would be even better with his knowledge.”

– WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T has a new radio show with CBS Houston, which debuted on Saturday night. The show airs on SportsRadio610.com, as well as on radio stations in the local market. The people involved with the show are still working on coming up with a name for the program, which is scheduled to air every Saturday at 7pm local time.

– Ryback is working his “firing” angle on social media, as he posted the following on Friday evening.

Josh Mathews Takes Some STIFF Shots At Jim Ross, JR Fires Right Back At Him …

Over the weekend, we ran a report that WWE talent is frustrated that the wrestlers at NXT get much more time to wrestle during their matches and are much less restricted with what they get to do in the ring. WWE Divas The Bella Twins appeared at Comic Con in Indianapolis over the weekend and corroborated the sentiment.

When asked about the women in NXT wrestling lengthy matches while WWE Divas only get a few minutes to work each week, Nikki said that she and Brie were just talking about that the other day. Brie said:

“I was saying that. If I was in NXT I would not wanna come up to the main roster because you get so much time down there. If you come to the live events you’ll see we get a lot of time at the live events. When it comes to TV we get so frustrated because it’s hard to tell a story in 3 minutes and especially when they want an entrance. We want time to wrestle. Especially after watching NXT Rival pay-per-view and seeing them go 20 minutes, it’s like a dream. It’s something we’d love and we’re trying so hard to get more time. There’s a three hour Raw and you can’t give more time to the Divas? But, hopefully in the future.”

They also spoke about Total Divas, with Brie mentioning that she thinks its silly for WWE to have the storylines crossover to WWE RAW. Since Total Divas taped months in advance, its difficult to act like the events that took place on Total Divas occurred the night before.
