– Regarding The Rock’s confirmed WrestleMania 32 appearance in April, which he continues to claim will “make history,” his availability to appear on RAW to help promote and build-up his appearance could be limited due to his Baywatch filming schedule.

– WWE is planning to use a smaller stage for their upcoming NXT TakeOver: Dallas live special during WrestleMania 32 weekend in April. The new stage setup will block fewer seats than usual and will allow an estimated 9,156 fans inside the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, as opposed to the 7,000 seats normally available with their standard setup. NXT TakeOver: Dallas is projected to be the third most-attended NXT event in history, trailing only NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn at the Barclays Center and NXT TakeOver: London at Wembley Arena.

For two years, the Obama Administration conducted “bulk collections” of internet metadata—information akin to ‘reading one’s diary’—on Americans and foreigners alike, according to secret documents leaked by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and newly revealed by the Guardian.

According to the documents, under the program called Stellar Wind which ran for ten years beginning in 2001, a federal judge on the secret surveillance FISA court panel would automatically approve a “collection of bulk internet metadata” every 90 days.

Though the program was stopped in 2011 (for reasons that remain unclear), what is perhaps most troubling about the latest revelations is how experts explain that the collection of “internet metadata”—which the government continues to claim is harmless—is actually the heart of how the NSA is able to infiltrate the detailed working of a citizen’s private life.

“In reality, it is hard to distinguish email metadata from email content,” writes the Guardian‘s Glenn Greenwald and Spencer Ackerman, who add that this information is much more revealing and invasive than phone metadata, which is frequently viewed by and shared with phone companies.

“The calls you make can reveal a lot, but now that so much of our lives are mediated by the internet, your IP [internet protocol] logs are really a real-time map of your brain: what are you reading about, what are you curious about, what personal ad are you responding to (with a dedicated email linked to that specific ad), what online discussions are you participating in, and how often?” Cato Institute research fellow Julian Sanchez told Greenwald and Ackerman.

“Seeing your IP logs – and especially feeding them through sophisticated analytic tools – is a way of getting inside your head that’s in many ways on par with reading your diary,” he added.

According to a top-secret draft report by the NSA’s inspector general, under the program, the Bush administration initiated a wholesale collection of internet communications “with at least one communicant outside the United States or for which no communicant was known to be a citizen of the United States.”

They continue:

The alleged purpose of their collection program, as detailed by a 2007 secret Justice Department memo, was initially to gain information about the online habits of foreigners. Thus when a ‘chain’ reached a telephone number or internet address believed to be used by a United States person, the practice was to ‘stop.’

However, in 2007, assistant attorney general Kenneth Weinstein argued that if the surveillance agency was given “broader leeway” to study the online habits of Americans in the ‘chain,’ the information will “yield valuable foreign intelligence information.”

According to the Greenwald and Ackerman, this recommendation was heeded. They write:

It was this interpretation of the program that continued for two years under the Obama administration, despite frequent campaign pledges of ‘transparency.’

Shawn Turner, the Obama administration’s director of communications for National Intelligence, refused to respond when questioned by the Guardian on additional details of the metadata program or the reasons why it was stopped.

Reportedly, a senior administration official queried by the Washington Post denied that the Obama administration was “using this program” to “collect internet metadata in bulk,” but added: “I’m not going to say we’re not collecting any internet metadata.”

NXT star Apollo Crews recently spoke with TheMirror.co.uk about NXT’s success and the brand’s evolving reputation as it relates to WWE.

As NXT continues to grow, talents like NXT Champion Finn Balor and NXT Women’s Champion Bayley have stated publicly that they’re in no rush to join the main roster because NXT is the place to be. Crews echoes that sentiment:

“I wouldn’t say NXT is a stepping stone, by no means. I think everybody has certain things they want to accomplish here and of course the goal is main roster, but when you come here, you come here with things you want to accomplish here in NXT. You get here and things start happening. It’s definitely not a stepping stone by no means.

“I think for me personally if you’re a wrestler, NXT is where you want to be. From being down at the Performance Center, starting getting on the road more often, traveling to Texas, Brooklyn, Louisville, Sacramento and now the UK, it’s just growing and expanding, and more and more people want to be a part of this and more people are getting onboard. The WWE Network is a major outlet for NXT and when you come to a place like this and see the support we’re getting, it just shows how big NXT really is.”

TNA taped another episode of Impact Wrestling on Friday night from Bethlehem, PA. These should air on Tuesday, February 2nd:

– Bobby Lashley defeated Aiden O’Shea in about 5 minutes. After the match, the same woman from the January 26th episode that flirted with Lashley came back out. She said the next time she sees Lashley, she can bring pain or pleasure. She had to repeat herself because she didn’t have the mic close enough to her mouth. She leaves and then Lashley leaves. Our correspondent wrote, “Pretty dumb.”

– World Heavyweight Champion Matt Hardy comes out with wife Reby Sky and Tyrus. Matt says what happened to Jeff Hardy last week was karma paying him a visit, with the piledriver through a table. Matt says it was business, not personal. Eric Young comes out with Bram, and wants a title shot. Kurt Angle is out next. Angle reveals that his next match on the farewell tour is against Matt for the title, and it will be tonight. Angle says he will kick everyone’s ass. Beer Money is out next. They want to fight Bram and EY. This leads to a big brawl. The Wolves, Abyss and Crazzy Steve all run out and join the fight. Fans are chanting “Matt’s a pussy”

– Bram, EY, Steve and Abyss vs. The Wolves and Beer Money in a Hardcore War is announced for later. The heels leave first and then the babyfaces after some crowd interaction

– Shane Helms vs. TNA X Division Champion Tigre Uno is next. Helms comes out in street clothes and says Uno agreed to a title match, but not against him. He introduces his challenger and out comes Trevor Lee. Lee wins the title and looked impressive. Helms and Lee appear to be together as heels but the crowd was giving Lee a lot of love

* Tyrus vs. Drew Galloway, said to be very slow paced at times, ends when Galloway hits a powerbomb from the second turnbuckle. The lights go out and Maria Kanellis appears on the stage. She says Galloway’s miracle happens now. The lights come back on and Mike Bennett nails Galloway with his own Feast or Famine briefcase. Bennett cuts a promo on Drew and says he’s the miracle TNA needs

– Crazzy Steve, Abyss, Bram and Eric Young defeated Beer Money and The Wolves in a Hardcore War. Davey Richards and Steve started the match, every 60 seconds a new man joins in. Bram came out next with a pipe. James Storm was out next with a keg of beer. The crowd was hot for the match now. EY brought a Singapore cane out and Eddie Edwards brought a trash can lid. Fans chanted “this is awesome” as Storm took a break to drink a beer handed to him by a fan. Abyss is out next with Janice. He swings and misses. Bobby Roode is out next with a hockey stick. Lots of fun brawling and spots like a six-man suplex. Beer Money fights Bram and EY to the back. Abyss lays Davey out with a title belt and Steve covers him for the win. Abyss and Steve celebrate and leave, still in possession of the titles

– Maria comes out alone. She says women’s wrestling needs a miracle and she is the arrow, the First Lady of Wrestling. Maria says she will change the women’s division. TNA Knockouts Champion Gail Kim comes out. Maria offers to help Kim and take her to the next level. Kim says Maria should lace her boots up and they have words. Kim wants to fight but Maria leaves

– Kurt Angle vs. Matt Hardy for the World Heavyweight Title is the main event. Fans chant “Matt’s a pussy” again during the introductions. Angle laughs. Lots of back and forth in the match. The lights go out and come back on, apparently just an error by someone in the back. Angle hits a bunch of belly to belly suplexes. Angle went to the top but was distracted by Reby Sky, who was at ringside with Tyrus. Hardy ended up hitting a Twist of Fate from the turnbuckles for the win. Team Hardy celebrated to end the show.

As we reported on Monday afternoon, longtime WWE enhancement wrestler “Iron” Mike Sharpe died at age 64 this past weekend at his home in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Upon hearing of the news, WWE released an official statement on their official website to honor the career of a performer who worked for the company from 1983 to 1995.

WWE.com issued the following on Monday afternoon:

WWE is saddened to learn that Michael Sharpe, known to WWE fans as “Iron” Mike Sharpe, has passed away at age 64.

Long before “Iron” Mike Tyson entered a boxing ring, self-proclaimed “Canada’s Greatest Athlete” “Iron” Mike Sharpe was battering opponents in a wrestling ring. A second-generation Superstar whose father and uncle both competed in sports-entertainment, Hamilton, Ontario’s Sharpe was a champion in his native country as well as several regional American territories in the United States.

Managed by WWE Hall of Famer Captain Lou Albano, Sharpe used the mysterious (and often loaded) black brace on his right forearm to defeat opponent after opponent while simultaneously berating them. Sharpe’s winning ways were enough to earn him a WWE Championship Match against Champion Bob Backlund in Philadelphia in April 1983, a mere four months after his WWE debut. Like so many others, Sharpe was unsuccessful in defeating Backlund.

Sharpe then regularly competed on and off for both WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Sharpe’s final WWE match occurred in 1995 against Billy & Bart, The Smoking Gunns.

Following his retirement, Sharpe had a school in Brick, N.J., where he trained many aspiring competitors. His students included former WWE Superstars Charlie Haas and Simon Dean (also known as ECW’s Nova), as well as WCW Superstar Crowbar.

Finn Balor to defend NXT title at New Year's Evil

December 11, 2020 | News | No Comments

After several weeks out of action due to a broken jaw, Finn Balor is returning to the ring.

It was announced tonight that Balor will be defending his NXT Championship at NXT New Year’s Evil. The special NXT episode is airing live on the USA Network on Wednesday, January 6.

How Balor’s challenger for New Year’s Evil will be decided has yet to be announced. Balor kicked off tonight’s show with an in-ring promo before being interrupted by Pete Dunne, Kyle O’Reilly, and Damian Priest. All three wanted the next shot at the NXT Championship. Balor said he’ll be defending his title at New Year’s Evil, but it’s NXT general manager William Regal’s job to decide who his challenger will be.

Scarlett then confronted Balor on the stage. Balor told Scarlett he had a message for Karrion Kross. Balor said that whenever Kross is ready, Balor’s ready.

Priest asked Scarlett if she usually tells Kross to wait in the car while she handles his business. Priest said if Kross wants to come back and pick a fight, all he has to do is step to Priest like a man. Kross returned later on tonight’s show and attacked Priest.

Dunne was in action on tonight’s NXT and defeated Killian Dain.

Balor broke his jaw in two places while retaining the NXT Championship against O’Reilly at TakeOver 31 this October. Tonight was Balor’s second in-person appearance since undergoing surgery for the injury.

Balor has been NXT Champion since defeating Adam Cole for the then-vacant title this September. The NXT Championship had been relinquished by Kross due to him suffering a separated shoulder during the match where he won the title from Keith Lee at TakeOver XXX in August.

Mick Foley Blogs About AJ Styles' First Week In WWE

December 11, 2020 | News | No Comments

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley took to social media on Tuesday to write his thoughts on AJ Styles’ run in WWE thus far, as well as his thoughts on what could be in store for the former face of TNA Wrestling at this year’s WrestleMania 32 event in April.

Foley wrote the following on his official Facebook page:

HIS FUTURE LOOKS PHENOMENAL

I really hoped AJ Styles would debut on the main roster. I hoped he would be able to retain his own name as well. But honestly, I would not have predicted the ovation he received at the ‪#‎RoyalRumble‬ on Sunday night. I don’t think any of us could have. It was amazing, it was incredible, it was….phenomenal!

AJ has been so good, for so long, for so many different promotions, with so many opponents, that it could have been easy for him to be lost in the shuffle. The big question about AJ styles was always “is he a WWE guy?” Well, 17,000 people in Orlando Florida certainly thought so.

The sky looks to be the limit for AJ – but timing is everything, and it would certainly help for him to have the right program right out of the gate. Who would you like to see AJ wrestle? Who might you align him with? What role might he play at ‪#‎WrestleMania‬?
