– As seen on WWE RAW this week, Rusev had his ribs taped up. WWE.com has since reported that doctors have confirmed that the WWE United States Champion has bruised ribs.

– Following her main roster debut on RAW, Triple H tweeted a congratulatory message on his official Twitter account to former NXT Women’s Champion Bayley. Check out the tweet, which includes a photo of Triple H and Bayley backstage at the show.

– The new WWE Universal Champion will be crowned as Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens and Big Cass will compete in a Fatal 4 Way match at next week’s RAW. The match was decided on last night’s RAW in a series of matches that were held after Finn Balor officially relinquished the title at the start of the show. WWE tweeted the following plug for the big title match next week:

As noted, CM Punk took part in a media conference call with his opponent Mickey Gall on Thursday to promote their fight on the PPV card at UFC 203 later this month. As it has been since the fight was first announced, both guys were respectful of each other while promoting their upcoming showdown.

Regarding the fact that he might not be as colorful a character during the build-up to his Octagon debut that some fans may have expected, Punk pointed out that those are his fans are already cheering for him and those who weren’t are already rooting against him.

“I don’t see the need for it,” said Punk. “You know? People either love me or hate me already.”

Punk continued, “I’m not trying to talk anybody into the building on this one. I think the allure is just the fact that it’s happening. You know what I mean? And the story writes itself, so it’s not a fabricated thing where I need to, kind of create some drama between me and Mickey.”

As he wrapped up on the topic, he got down to the core of the issue — at the end of the day he’s going to step into the Octagon on September 10th and fight a trained MMA veteran selected by the UFC while his fans and detractors alike tune in live to see it.

“We’re going to fight. That’s the beauty of it,” said Punk. “You know? It doesn’t need to be a weird verbal p*ssing contest. I think some of these guys, while it is entertainment and it’s the sh*t-talk business, I just don’t see it.”

Punk concluded, “I don’t see it happening this time.”

Headlined by Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem for the UFC Heavyweight Championship in a striking fans dream matchup, which will be Miocic’s first defense of the title, and featuring the Punk-Gall contest, UFC 203 takes place from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, September 10, 2016.

– To promote the new WWE Studios film “Interrogation,” which stars WWE Hall Of Famer Edge (Adam Copeland) and WWE Superstar Lana (C.J. Perry), WWE posted the above behind-the-scenes clip on their official YouTube channel. Interestingly enough, the only thing advertised in the title and description of the video is the fact that fans can hear what Lana sounds like when she’s not talking with her trademark Russian accent. “Interrogation” is scheduled to be released on September 20th.

– Speaking of WWE’s YouTube channel, below is a new video featuring WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens cutting a promo from Shanghai, China. The second-ever Universal Champion touted being the first man to ever defend the title and pointed out his belief that he should have always been at the top to begin with. Owens faces Roman Reigns on tonight’s RAW in Baltimore, MD. in a match where if Reigns wins, he will be added to the Owens-Seth Rollins title match at the WWE Clash Of Champions pay-per-view, making it a triple-threat match.

FRIDAY NEWS UPDATE

The new issue of the Observer has two major history pieces, one on Pat Patterson and the other on Bobby Lee, the latter of which brings you to a period that even most who know wrestling history really aren’t familiar with. Due to the deaths of Patterson and Lee, our Hall of Fame story on Dan Koloff (Kolov) will be moved to the next double issue.

AEW finished second for Wednesday night in 18-49, basically a tie with the West Virginia vs. Gonzaga basketball game with both at 0.42.  NXT was No. 40.  The new Observer has all the quarter details and breakdowns of age group stuff.

Some other notes on the AEW show.  They were actually down in over 50 viewership from normal and even down from last week’s difficult night. But it was the youngest viewership night for AEW of the year with teenagers doubling last week, 18-34 up 71 percent, 35-49 up 55 percent, 18-34 women up 144 percent and teenage girls up 200 percent. NXT opened the show at the same level as the week before, but except for the ladder match which did strong gains, they fell much of the way. AEW had big success at a number of points, topping 1 million viewers  many times. The top stuff was the end of the Battle Royal, Chris Jericho vs. Frankie Kazarian,  The Young Bucks promo angle, a surprisingly good Britt Baker vs. Leyla Hirsch number, the Sting debut did well over 600,000 in 18-49, and the title match, which was consistently at just under 1 million viewers for long periods of time and right at 600,000 in 18-49 except during commercial breaks.

Saturday’s UFC starts at 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN 2 and ESPN+:

Over the weekend, Robbie E., best known for his run in TNA as one-half of The BroMans tag-team along with Jessie Godderz, welcomed his new twin sons into the world.

Pictured below are photos of Robbie E. and his wife Tara along with their new twin boys — Carter and Cash — as well as comments from Robbie E. regarding the birth of his two new children.

The U.S. Army is blocking all internet access to the Guardian‘s coverage of the NSA spying scandal to prevent service members and military employees from leaking information themselves, the Monterey Herald revealed Thursday.

The censorship at Army bases across the U.S. is in place to ward off further leaks and ensure ‘network hygiene,’ said Gordon Van Vleet, spokesman for the Army’s NETCOM network. He told the Monterey Herald:

Yet, supporters of whistleblower rights argue that media filtering from the Army command ultimately cannot stop soldiers from learning about them or prevent them from potentially acting on their own consciences.

“The Army is scared of its own soldiers finding out what groups like the Army are up to,” said Ryan Harvey, organizer with the Bradley Manning Support Network. “If anyone has information about the actions of the U.S. government it is the soldiers themselves. Society has this distorted mythology of what the U.S. does in the world. Members of the military, who are put through hell in the name of U.S. interests, know what’s going on.”

“Bradley Manning was part of the Army, and there are other Bradley Mannings out there,” continued Harvey. “That is what Snowden is showing us now. The military is filled with people upset with what’s going on. The more those service members see people taking meaningful action on these injustices, the more they will want to take action themselves.”

The blackout was exposed by the Monterey Herald when people at the Presidio of Monterey Army public affairs base in California were unable to access Guardian articles about the NSA leaks.

While the blocks were at first believed to just at the California base, Army officials confirmed Thursday an Army-wide block of the Guardian.

At the Impact Wrestling television tapings in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday evening, a new masked trio made their TNA debut.

According to Ryan Satin of ProWrestlingSheet.com, the three men behind the masks at the tapings last night at Universal Studios were TNA regulars James Storm, Bram and Eddie Kingston. The name of their new three-man group is “DCC.”

Below are some photos of the segment that featured the debut of Storm, Bram and Kingston as their new masked three-man group:

The situation in TNA continues to get more interesting as the days go by, folks.

Dave Meltzer noted during the latest episode of his Wrestling Observer Radio program that TNA could potentially have issues making payments to talents, which are reportedly due again this weekend.

According to the longtime Wrestling Observer Newsletter editor, TNA may not have received enough funding to be able to make the talent pay period that is believed to be due this weekend after the assortment of costs that were necessary to put on the October 2nd Bound For Glory pay-per-view and the recent Impact Wrestling television tapings.

If TNA is unable to make payments to the talents that they currently have signed to contracts, that would be a breach of contract and according to Meltzer, there are already some wrestlers in TNA who are already planning to declare themselves free agents next week if their payments aren’t made this weekend.

As advertised, SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Becky Lynch made her television return at Tuesday’s SmackDown Live show after spending a couple of weeks on the sidelines due to undisclosed health issues.

During her appearance at the Wizard World Comic Con event in Tulsa, Oklahoma this past Friday (see above), the reigning Women’s Champion of the blue brand was asked what it was that kept her out of action recently.

While Lynch didn’t exactly reveal anything specific, she did claim that she was only on the sidelines as long as she was due to WWE insisting on it as a precautionary measure.

“So I had to go into the ER,” said Lynch at Friday’s Comic Con event. “But it is all good, I got better within a few days. I wanted to be back on the road because they kept me out a little bit longer,” Lynch noted. “I just want to get back in there as soon as possible.”

Becky Lynch is scheduled to make the next defense of her SmackDown Live Women’s Championship against Alexa Bliss at SmackDown Live on Tuesday, November 8th in Glasgow, Scotland.
