December 2, 2020 | News | No Comments

Prior to Saturday night’s NXT TakeOver: Chicago special, WWE held a set of NXT TV tapings for this coming Wednesday’s episode on the WWE Network.

Below are complete spoiler results of what was taped.

* Patrick Clark def. Robert Anthony in the first match taped. Clark debuted his new “The Velveteen Dream” gimmick.

* Drew McIntyre def. Wesley Blake in another singles contest. The finish saw McIntyre score the pin after blasting Blake with his running kick.

* Aleister Black def. Curt Hawkins in the final of three matches taped on Saturday night for this week’s show.

— With Raw and Smackdown taking hits going head-to-head with the NBA playoffs, the next two weeks both shows will be clear of any NBA competition so in theory, the expectation is that ratings/viewership should rise.

— Asuka will be replacing Mickie James at live events in Japan on 6/30 and 7/1. Akira Tozawa and Hideo Itami will also be competing at these events but Shinsuke Nakamura will not be there as these are Raw branded events and of course, he’s on Smackdown.

— Brie Bella recently went on record to state that she is interested in coming out of retirement and wrestling again for WWE.

Decent crowd, WWE rarely comes to south Florida any more.
Opening match tag team fatal four way for titles
Usos vs American alpha vs breezango vs colons
Good opener, couple comedy spots, Jason Jordan came off well with a hot tag
but usos go over after they pin gable.

Tye Dillinger vs Simon gotch
Gotch created great heat with his singing, back and forth action with tye
going over after his finisher

Ascension vs sin cara and mojo rawley
Boring match, mojo tried to hype the crowd and eventual pinned Conner for the
win

Eric Rowan vs Luke Harper
Another boring match with Harper going over. Not sure what happened but right
after match Harper stormed to the back as if he was mad about something.
Weird

Shinsuke vs dolph
Shinsuke is mega over, his shirts selling like crazy. Match started slow,
last few minutes were exciting with shinsuke going over. After he posed for
pictures with crowd.

Fatal 5 way for women’s title.
Naomi vs Natalya vs Tamina vs Becky lynch vs Carmella
Short and fast paced match with Naomi going over with rear view on Natalya.

Sami zayn vs baron corbin.
Shorter version of there ppv match with Corbin winning with the end of days

Main even was tag match
Jinder and KO vs aj styles and orton
Aj was over huge. Jinder tried to generate heat. It crowd didn’t care. KO was
also over and very entertaining. Finish saw aj hit jinder with the phenomenal
forearm and orton pin KO after RKO. After they posed and shook hands with the
crowd.

Over all the show was ok.
I’ve been to a few house shows and this was proabably the worst.
Crowd was very dissapointed there was no New Day.
The mojo match could have been skipped.
Lots of Cena, Shinsuke, and AJ merchandise being sold.
Strange there was nothing for Tye, Sami, or KO.

The *insert major city* 3:16 shirts have been at two of the recent shows I’ve been to… they’re not an indication of an Austin appearance.

Thanks to reader Brandon Siddall for sending this in:

I read a report about Los Angles 3:16 shirts possibly meaning a appearance by Steve Austin, just to provide some information, they also had Evansville 3:16 shirts printed last week at Raw, so that doesn’t mean an appearance is guaranteed

— As noted earlier in the day, rumors began flying when it was noted that WWE was promoting “Los Angeles 3:16” t-shirts for tonight’s show, especially given that Steve Austin lives in the area. If the above news item from our readers is correct, it doesn’t have anything to do with Austin appearing on Raw.

— According to sources, there are mixed feelings on Elias Samson backstage. Apparently, officials are “absolutely enamored” with his physique and appearance, suggesting that he has the look to be a major star with some comparisons to Randy Savage. However, the general feeling is that he is a little rough around the edges in the ring and will need to “polish up” in order to take the next big jump.

— There are also backstage rumblings that WWE is slowly building towards an AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura match later this year, possibly as early as SummerSlam. The faceoff that occurred at Money in the Bank was to not tease the program and also to gauge audience reaction as both are fan favorites.

On the new WWE 24: Kurt Angle – Homecoming documentary special that premiered on the WWE Network after Monday night’s post-Great Balls Of Fire episode of WWE RAW, Shane McMahon was shown meeting up with Angle for the first time in years at a WWE SmackDown Live taping prior to his induction into the WWE Hall Of Fame earlier this year.

Featured above is a WWE Network Extra clip, which shows Angle and Shane meeting up at the SmackDown Live taping earlier this year.

“It’s like you call one of your best friends and you haven’t spoken to them in several years and you pick right back up where you left off,” Shane said of their reunion. “That’s a good foundation that you’ve built and that’s a solid friendship. If you do that, you know you’ve got a good friend there.”

On a recent conference call to promote Saturday’s NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III event, Triple H discussed Jinder Mahal’s success story. Triple H says that they always thought Mahal had the potential to be the WWE Champion.

“He was one of the last two guys in the finals for me at the first, to determine the first NXT Champion,” Triple H recalled. “People forget that. I thought he had that ability. He came right up to main roster, things didn’t pan out the way we wanted them to pan out. You can talk to him about that, he’ll kind of give you his take on it too as well. Part of that’s him, part of that’s us, part of that being not ready for it.”

Triple H says that Jinder’s time away from the company helped him grow as a performer, and he feels that sometimes talent leaving to work other places ends up helping them for future runs in WWE. As for wrestlers currently on the roster who need freshening up, he says NXT or the WWE Network’s UK shows may be options for them to “rebuild.”

“Rather than them not being here, it’s like, okay, we’re gonna bring you over to UK for a little while or we’re gonna bring you down to NXT and you’re gonna do a little run there, freshen you up a little bit, bring you back,” Triple H explained.

“I think those opportunities are there in some way, for everybody on the roster, to be able to move around and be able to do the things that are meaningful,” he continued. “Whether main roster, whether NXT, whether localized some place else where they can go teach other people, learn themselves and sometimes taking a step back out of it makes you realize things that you had forgotten or that make you think, ‘I don’t do that anymore at all. I gotta get myself back in gear.’ It’s real easy in this industry where you do things every single day over and over — sometimes stepping out of it is the best way to realize you need to reinvigorate your passion and get back in there and dig in.”

NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III takes place on Saturday, August 19th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, with live play-by-play coverage and discussion all night on Rajah.com.

Rhea Ripley is the third member of Team Shotzi for NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

WWE posted a video today confirming that Ripley is joining Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon on Team Shotzi for this year’s women’s WarGames match. There’s still one more member of Team Shotzi to be announced.

It will be Team Shotzi vs. Team Candice (Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai, Raquel Gonzalez & Toni Storm) in WarGames at NXT TakeOver: WarGames on Sunday (December 6).

After losing to NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai the previous week, there was a segment on last Wednesday’s NXT where Ripley addressed the audience. Ripley said people have speculated about what’s next for her, but she’s in NXT to stay and is focused on the NXT Women’s Championship. Team Candice then interrupted Ripley and revealed that they had laid out Shirai. Ripley tried to fight off Team Candice, but the numbers advantage was eventually too much and they beat Ripley down.

It appears that Shirai will be the final member of Team Shotzi for WarGames.

Blackheart is facing Gonzalez on this Wednesday’s NXT to determine which team will get the entrance order advantage in WarGames.

Here’s the updated card for NXT TakeOver: WarGames:

WarGames match: Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick Strong & Bobby Fish) vs. Team McAfee (Pat McAfee, Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch)
WarGames match: Team Shotzi (Shotzi Blackheart, Ember Moon, Rhea Ripley, and one partner to be announced) vs. Team Candice (Candice LeRae; Dakota Kai, Raquel Gonzalez & Toni Storm)
