Backstage News On The Future Of CM Punk + WWE’s Objective With Monday’s Raw >>

This afternoon TNA star Samoa Joe did a media conference call. The most newsworthy item discussed was Joe setting the record straight about his contractual status with TNA. Joe said his TNA contract does in fact expire soon and that he and TNA are currently “talking”. He said “details still have to be worked out” and “hopefully it’ll be over soon”.

Thanks to Chris Johnson for this detailed recap:

– Joe was asked if Sunday’s match at Lockdown will be an MMA style match as Kurt Angle has said. Joe said he is going in there to win a pro wrestling match and nothing else.

– Joe said his contract status right now is up in the air. They are currently negotiating things and it will hopefully get done soon.

– He and Nash didn’t get along at first but over the last 4 or 5 months he has really grown to respect Kevin and thinks he has a great mind for wrestling.

– He wasn’t afraid of his spot when guys like Christian and Angle came in.

– His favorite TNA matches were with Styles and Daniels while his favorite match in ROH was with Kenta Kobashi.

– There is concern within the company that the fans may not take to them going in an MMA direction.

– Joe feels 100% that he and Kurt will have there best match yet on Sunday.

– Joe says a lot of his old injuries are now healed and he feels much better than he has in a long time.

– His contractual status has no barring on how hard he works in the ring and how much of himself he is willing to give for the product.

– Joe is very excited for the TNA video game and thinks it will be much better than the Smackdown vs. Raw series who he is not a fan of.

– Wrestlemania weekend in Orlando was a ton of fun for himself and worked out well for all three companies.

– If Joe does lose on Sunday he is looking into possibly working at Starbucks.

– The best advice Nash has ever given him is “Once your on top trouble always falls behind you”.

– He would love to go back to Japan and work for either NOAH or New Japan but with TNA’s busy schedule he has his hands full with that at this time.

– Broken ribs was the worst injury he has ever suffered.

– He said Dutch Mantell and The Bully have the two best mustaches in wrestling history.

– If he could have anyone in ROH history to face in TNA it would be CM Punk.

– Of the TNA guys he hasn’t worked with he would like to feud with Booker T.

– He thinks Kaz and Curry Man are currently the two most overlooked guys in TNA.

– He loved the Ric Flair sendoff and would have loved to work with him.

– When asked if he could ever see himself in WWE he said he doesn’t know but he is very loyal to TNA and he doesn’t want that to change anytime soon.

– He feels that TNA’s roster is talented enough that they don’t need to book all the gimmick matches that they do.

– Aside from his match he is most looking forward to seeing what Booker and Roode do on Sunday.

– Joe ended the call by saying “Go team Cage”.

RAW Report 6/9/08 Oakland

February 3, 2021 | News | No Comments

RAW this week starts with music and pyro.

JR and King talk about money and the main events. There are a lot of signs in the crowd about a million dollars.

Vince’s music and he comes out to the stage. There’s a podium/clear box set up to the right. He goes over and grabs a mic. He welcomes us to McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania. He says he’s actually a little nervous about this tonight. He introduces the million dollars and two armed/uniformed guards come out and move the money to the box. He says those who have registered might get a phone call and need to give him the password. The password is WWE Universe and it’s up on the tron. He’s going to give away $200,000 at the end of the match.

Kennedy comes out to the ring. He looks a little pink, possibly sunburned. Paul Burchill and Katie Lea come to the ring.
Kennedy tries to go right after Paul, but the ref stops him. The bell and Kennedy goes right after him. “Kennedy” chants and Paul gets sent out over the top. Back in the ring a pin on Paul for two. Back suplex to Kennedy who was too close to the corner and hit the ropes. He was lucky he didn’t hit the turn buckle and get very injured. Paul slams Kennedy again and covers for two. Chinlock on Kennedy in the center of the ring. Kennedy gets out but slammed down again a couple times. Kennedy ducks a clothesline and hits an enziguri. Kennedy stomps Paul in a corner but then gets hung in the ropes briefly after kicking Paul to the side of the head. Kennedy covers for two then misses a mic check. A kick to Kennedy who then comes back with the mic check and a cover for three.

– Winner: Kennedy

Video replay of some key points. Katie is in the ring pleading with Kennedy, then she bitch slaps him. He turns and looks at her, enfuriated. Before he can do anything Paul attacks from behind and takes Kennedy down hard. “You suck” chants for Paul and Katie.

Vince is on the stage saying he’s going to dial and messes up. He’s going to give away $200,000. He’s more careful this time in his dialing. He gets some odd music, just as the person starts talking (Vince doesn’t hear him) and hangs up. Again it says to enjoy the music until the party answers. Finally the guy answers. A guy named Daniel from California wins the $200,000 with the right password.

There’s a bunch of Oakland Raiders in the front row. Mickie comes bouncing out in a new blue and purple two piece wrestling outfit. Beth comes out to face her in a shiny black and orange side-less halter outfit.
Mickie ducks Beth’s attack but gets slammed back. Forearms to Beth. A back kick to Beth. Mickie rushes Beth who does a crappy tilt-a-whirl on Mickie for two. JR and King talk about Mickie getting pointers from Cena. Front face lock into a fisherman’s for two. Back breaker to Mickie who knees Beth in the head to get out. Beth grabs Mickie who reverse into head scissors. Forearms and a running forearm to Beth. Beautiful low dropkick to Beth’s face for two. Mickie comes off a corner with a fez press for three.

WWE Rewind – Cena versus Jeff Hardy last Monday. Jeff flew, Cena rolled through, hit an FU and covered for three.

Cena and HHH are out back, nose to nose. Cena says at TNOC the fans get to see the two best fight it out for the title. HHH says he’s the best. Cena says the one time they faced each other… HHH says he knows that two years ago Cena made him tap out, but… Cena says he knows HHH has the title now, but will he in three weeks?

Charlie Haas is on the stage, getting major heat, with Vince to give away money. Vince dials the phone and thinks he mis-dialed. Nothing happens. He says Charlie brought him bad luck. Vince re-dials. He says he hopes it’s not Charlie’s home number because he won’t get the money. The number doesn’t work again and the fans are not happy. The third time he dials it’s busy. He gets another number to call. A woman, Donna answers and gives the password. She gets $50,000. Vince says if Charlie kisses a Diva Donna will get $100,000. Maria comes out and they kiss – a little hot. If he kisses another Diva she will get another $25,000. May Young comes out. Ron walks her out but leaves when she grabs the front of his trunks and pulls him in close. She’s all over him, as usual. She keeps kissing him until the camera changes view.

JBL says that no one deserves Vince’s money. But Cena deserves everything he’s about to give him.

HHH comes out to the announce table and sits with King and JR. JBL’s music and he comes out as far as he can in his limo, then his driver lets him out and he walks to the ring. Heat for him before Cena’s music starts. Cena comes to the ring. HHH is watching Cena closely and talks about fighting back from injuries himself and how he’s going to keep his title.
HHH distracts Cena and JBL utilizes it. JBL beats him down. “Cena” chants. Cena reverse a whip and hits a bulldog on JBL. JBL again gains control and takes Cena down for two. Swinging neck breaker to Cena for two. “Cena chants. Cena gets JBL up for the FU, but JBL gets out and leaves the ring. JBL glares at HHH. HHH gets to his feet and talks smack to JBL.

Reverse headlock on Cena. “Cena” chants. Cena fights out but JBL grabs him into a sleeper hold. Cena lands on his bum in the center of the ring. Cena starts fighting back and to his feet. He forces JBL’s arms up and out of the hold. Cena then runs into a big boot. Cena ducks a clothesline but hits a shoulder block, then slams JBL to the mat. Cena hits the five knuckle shuffle. Cena gets JBL up for the FU, but JBL rakes his eyes to get out and hits a clothesline from hell. JBL covers but Cena gets a foot on the ropes. JBL rolls from the ring and backs away. He starts to disassemble the announce table and HHH gets to his feet. JBL returns to the ring. Cena grabs JBL and rolls him up in a quick inside cradle for three.

– Winner: Cena

JBL stomps around the ring screaming, totally pissed off. HHH gets up on the announce table and holds his strap high. Cena leaves the ring and gets up on the table to face him. They talks smack for a moment, then HHH gets down. HHH sweeps Cena’s legs out from under him before casually leaving the ring area. Cena looks shocked as he lays on his back. He gets off the table and slightly smirks in HHH’s direction.

– Commercial

Vince wants to get creative. He has $100,000 and wants Lillian to stand up. He says earlier there was a conversation between her and JR that he measurements are 38-24-36 the total of which is 98, so he’s giving away $98,000 this time. The first dial doesn’t work. A woman named Stephanie answers and has the password, so she wins.

Vince announces it’s time for The Highlight Reel. Y2J comes out to the ring. He’s in jeans and a t-shirt. He says his guest was a hero to him when he watched as a kid, he then became a mentor and now a good friend.
HBK comes out wincing. He kneels on the ramp as usual, then comes to the ring. He’s limping slightly. He gets a mixed reaction from the fans, but then an “HBK” chant starts.
Y2J welcomes him to the Show and says he still looks sore from his match at ONS. Even though HBK lost the match, everyone still loves him.
HBK appreciates the kind words, but figures Y2J has a question.
Y2J says he does, but first he has some things to talk about, like the knee injury and lying to Y2J, the fans and Batista.
HBK says he technically didn’t lie to anyone but Y2J.
Y2J agrees with that. Then says HBK super kicked him and HBK got cheered. But Y2J talks about it, he gets booed. It seems like they’d rather cheer him than an honest man. It takes very little to get an HBK chant started. He does just that. He asks how someone so decorated in this business turns into such a lying, cheating little worm.
Y2J attacks HBK. HBK fights back until Y2J kicks him low. Y2J then talks smack down to HBK. “HBK” chants. Y2J picks HBK up by the head, says, “the worst is yet to come” and slams his face into the Jeritron 3000. (Y2J just officially made a heel turn!) Y2J leaves the ring slowly as HBK wallows on the mat.
Video replay of HBK getting his face smashed.
People come out to tend to HBK.

Murdoch and Jillian are going to have a sing-off in the ring. The fans seem happy to hear Murdoch, but it might just be that they don’t want to hear Jillian. She cuts him off telling him how horrible and she’s embarrassed for him. She’s going to give them what they want, she’s going to sing. She does her normal horrible routine.
Vince says they’re not winners, but let’s see if he has another winner on the phone. He dials again. It rings and a woman, Sarah, answers. She has the password.
