Jessica Chastain sera récompensée au Festival du Film International de Toronto

Jessica Chastain sera l’invitée d’honneur de la 46e édition du Festival du Film International de Toronto. Si L’incroyable histoire de Miss Tammy Faye, son dernier film, sera présenté lors de la compétition, c’est pour l’ensemble de sa carrière que l’actrice sera récompensée en recevant un Tribute Actor Award.

Pour Joana Vicente et Cameron Bailey qui codirigent le festival, Jessica Chastain mérite pleinement cet honneur qui vient saluer un apport d’exception à l’industrie cinématographique. « Son interprétation de Tammy Faye témoigne de sa présence exceptionnelle à l’écran et de son talent », a d’ailleurs affirmé Joana Vicente dans un communiqué relayé par Radio-Canada.

Dans L’incroyable histoire de Miss Tammy Faye (The Eyes of Tammy Faye en version originale), Jessica Chastain campe le rôle-titre de l’épouse du célèbre télévangéliste américain Jim Bakker. Leur émission, The PTL Club, a été lancée en 1974 et a prospéré jusqu’en 1989, année où le couple a été mêlé à un scandale sexuel retentissant.

La 46e édition du Festival du Film International de Toronto se tiendra du 9 au 18 septembre prochains et Jessica Chastain aura le plaisir de s’y rendre pour ajouter son nom à la longue liste des comédiens à avoir reçu le prestigieux prix, tels que Meryl Streep, Joaquin Phoenix, Kate Winslet ou encore Anthony Hopkins pour ne citer qu’eux.

Instagram : De nouvelles mesures pour protéger les utilisateurs des comportements inappropriés

Facebook a annoncé mercredi l’activation de plusieurs nouvelles fonctionnalités destinées à mieux protéger les utilisateurs de Instagram des abus et des comportements inappropriés. La maison mère du réseau social a expliqué sur son blog vouloir « donner aux gens un contrôle plus important de leur expérience ». Pour cela, elle a notamment lancé dans le monde entier l’outil « Limites » qui masque automatiquement les messages des internautes qui ne vous suivent pas, rapporte 01Net, ce jeudi.

La fonction s’applique aussi aux comptes récemment abonnés et peut être activée et désactivée à volonté. L’entreprise travaille actuellement sur un système d’alerte qui suggérera le recours à « Limites » en cas de pic d’interactions désobligeantes. Le nouvel outil est en cours de déploiement et devrait être disponible pour tous les utilisateurs dans les prochains jours.

Un message d’alerte plus strict et un meilleur filtrage

Cet outil vient ainsi s’ajouter à l’opération « Mots Masqués », déjà proposée dans plusieurs pays depuis le début de l’année et disponible partout ailleurs d’ici fin août. Il s’agit d’un système de filtrage qui permet de cacher automatiquement les messages directs comportant certains mots ou phrases potentiellement offensantes dans un dossier dédié. Les mots concernés par le dispositif sont de nature insultante et leur liste est régulièrement mise à jour.

La troisième mesure prise par Facebook concerne un message d’avertissement sévère apparaissant plus tôt qu’auparavant. En effet, un utilisateur de Instagram recevait précédemment un premier message d’alerte avant l’envoi d’un message potentiellement injurieux. Le ton de l’avertissement se durcissait en cas d’envois répétés de ce type de contenu. « Au lieu d’attendre le deuxième ou troisième envoi, nous afficherons désormais ce message plus sévère dès la première fois », a indiqué Adam Mosseri, responsable de Instagram.

L’alerte avertira l’utilisateur concerné que son commentaire sera masqué et que son compte risque d’être banni. « Nous espérons que ces nouvelles fonctionnalités éviteront davantage aux gens d’être exposés à des contenus injurieux de nature raciste, sexiste, homophobe ou à tout autre genre d’insulte. […] Nous avons la responsabilité de nous assurer que chacun se sent en sécurité lorsqu’il est sur Instagram », a estimé l’entreprise.

Sinclair Broadcast Group Loses Bid To Purchase Tribune Media, Brandi Rhodes Launches Cooking YouTube Channel

The Sinclair Broadcast Group, who is the parent company of Ring Of Honor, has today lost its bid to purchase the Tribune Media.

Tribute announced today that they terminated the purchase agreement and have now filed a lawsuit against Sinclair for breach of contract.

The purchase would have given Sinclair some major markets such as New York City and Los Angeles with Tribune owning 14 Fox affiliates, 12 CW affiliates, 6 CBS affiliates, 3 ABC affiliates and 2 NCB affiliates in New York, with others in LA and Chicago, which would have helped growth.
Right now, Sinclair has over the air stations in 39% of the United States, yet the purchase would have brought that up to 42%, which would have seen ROH’s TV presence grow massively.

NEW YORK, August 9, 2018 — Tribune Media Company (NYSE: TRCO) (the “Company”) today announced that it has terminated its merger agreement (the “Merger Agreement”) with Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. (“Sinclair”), and that it has filed a lawsuit in the Delaware Chancery Court against Sinclair for breach of contract. The lawsuit seeks compensation for all losses incurred as a result of Sinclair’s material breaches of the Merger Agreement. A copy of the lawsuit will be posted on the Tribune Media website, www.tribunemedia.com, as soon as it has been made publicly available by the Court.

In the Merger Agreement, Sinclair committed to use its reasonable best efforts to obtain regulatory approval as promptly as possible, including agreeing in advance to divest stations in certain markets as necessary or advisable for regulatory approval. Instead, in an effort to maintain control over stations it was obligated to sell, Sinclair engaged in unnecessarily aggressive and protracted negotiations with the Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission (the “FCC”) over regulatory requirements, refused to sell stations in the markets as required to obtain approval, and proposed aggressive divestment structures and related-party sales that were either rejected outright or posed a high risk of rejection and delay—all in derogation of Sinclair’s contractual obligations. Ultimately, the FCC concluded unanimously that Sinclair may have misrepresented or omitted material facts in its applications in order to circumvent the FCC’s ownership rules and, accordingly, put the merger on indefinite hold while an administrative law judge determines whether Sinclair misled the FCC or acted with a lack of candor. As elaborated in the complaint we filed earlier today, Sinclair’s entire course of conduct has been in blatant violation of the Merger Agreement and, but for Sinclair’s actions, the transaction could have closed long ago.

“In light of the FCC’s unanimous decision, referring the issue of Sinclair’s conduct for a hearing before an administrative law judge, our merger cannot be completed within an acceptable timeframe, if ever,” said Peter Kern, Tribune Media’s Chief Executive Officer. “This uncertainty and delay would be detrimental to our company and our shareholders. Accordingly, we have exercised our right to terminate the Merger Agreement, and, by way of our lawsuit, intend to hold Sinclair accountable.”

“Notwithstanding our disappointment regarding the outcome of the transaction, we are extremely pleased with our second quarter results, which were very strong. Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA grew 69% versus the prior year period and 84% for the first half of the year. While net core advertising revenues declined 6% and were under pressure broadly, we were able to drive consolidated revenue growth of 6% when excluding the impact of barter revenues, with solid growth in retransmission and carriage fees revenues and political advertising revenue. In addition, our disciplined focus on cost management drove programming expenses down 29% and Corporate and Other cash expenses, excluding transaction costs, down 19% over the prior year period.”

NXT Takeover Championship Match Result: Which Rival Left Brooklyn as the Last Man Standing?

The dark days of the black-and-yellow brand will continue, as Tommaso Ciampa leaves the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY still your NXT Champion.

The self-proclaimed “greatest sports entertainer of all time” went through an actual war against his long-time rival Johnny Gargano, in a brutal Last Man Standing bout filled with tables, chairs, crutches, announce desks, exposed concrete, handcuffs and way, way more.

In the end, Johnny Wrestling would handcuff his former tag team partner to a wall of production equipment, nailing him with wicked running knee strikes, over and over again. Ciampa attempted to “apologize” to earn some last-second mercy, but Gargano wouldn’t have any of it, removing his knee pad and striking with one final blow that sent him toppling over production crates, crashing hard to the floor. With both men down the refere began his obligatory count, but with Gargano unable to stand on his freshly injured knee, the NXT Champion brilliantly hung himself off the side of the stage, returning to his feet before the final count of “ten”.

After the bout, medics helped Johnny Gargano to the back as he sold some serious damage done to his knee, almost poetically mirroring the original injury suffered by Ciampa over one year ago; the injury that began this entire battle.

Update on Injury to Current Smackdown Champion, Becky Lynch Attacks Charlotte at WWE Live Event (Photos)

Erick Rowan Injury Update

As previously reported, WWE Superstar Erick Rowan appears to have suffered an undisclosed arm injury during the Bludgeon Brothers’ defense of the Smackdown Tag Team Championships at SummerSlam.

While the extent of his injury is still unknown, it’s worth noting that the blue brand champions are current scheduled to defend their titles in a No Disqualification rematch against The New Day tonight on Smackdown Live. The announcement of the match was made well after WWE became aware of Rowan’s injury so that may be a good sign that he won’t have to miss any time away from the ring.

In an update to this situation, Luke Harper wrestled solo at Monday night’s WWE Live event in Atlantic City, taking on Karl Anderson. While the good brother had his tag team partner Luke Gallows at ringside for a little extra backup, Rowan was nowhere to be seen according to multiple live event results from fans in attendance.

Becky Attacks Charlotte in Atlantic City

In case you missed it, Charlotte Flair became the new Smackdown Women’s Champion at SummerSlam, defeating both Becky Lynch and Carmella in a triple threat bout. After the match Becky attacked her former best friend, technically turning “heel” despite the entire sold-out Barclays Center cheering her on.

At the same WWE Live event mentioned above, Becky once again attacked Charlotte after another successful title defense, and according to fans in attendance, she received another tremendous reaction from supportive members of the WWE Universe. You can check out photos from the incident below.

Wade Barrett Talks Working With CM Punk & More

Former WWE Star Wade Barrett, whose real name is Stu Bennett, recently sat down with TV Insider to talk about his current workload outside of the ring, including a recent movie. One of the interesting notes is a quote about working with CM Punk on the Netflix series Ultimate Beastmaster Survival of the Fittest. 

The cool thing about it is also CM Punk being one of the U.S. hosts. You get to see us interact on camera again. It was good to see him. I haven’t seen him in a few years. He is doing great for himself and seems to be enjoying his life away from WWE. I was happy to reconnect with him and see what he is doing.”

Bennett also talked about moving up in the WWE.

When I was in WWE I went from being a complete nobody to a main event guy in 2010,” Bennett said. “I was battling all the top stars like John Cena and Randy Orton. People asked me then if I felt the pressure of being in the top spot. Did I feel the pressure of everyone watching what I was doing? The true answer is no. The pressure I felt in my wrestling career was when I was the guy who wasn’t known and had to try and build a name for myself and build a career for myself.

“I wasn’t sure if I would be employed a week later. That was pressure. Very much the feeling I get now in the film world is when you’re in the lead role. There is pressure attached with it, but I feel good with that pressure. That’s what I want. That’s the position I want to be in. I was in the smaller roles trying to get into this lead role position. I want every role I am in to be in that spot. Not saying that is always going happen, but when I’m in that spot I feel good and want to carry the movie. Hopefully, it’s a big success in part because of my involvement with it.”
