September 14, 2021 | News | No Comments

« A mon avis, ils vont mal finir.

Impact Wrestling Results
March 1, 2018

(1) Tyrus def. Ethan Carter III. EC3 did his best to avoid his former bodyguard as much as humanly possible and really only got any offense in when he cheated. He even used the referee as a human shield at one point but nothing he did could save him from the avalanche of humanity that is Fox News’ Superstar Brodus Clay. The Tongan death grip into an STO put EC3 away for good.

– We get a promo with Joseph Park calling his grandmother (seriously, right after the Tyrus match, you can’t make this stuff up). Not even Nana Park believes he can beat Kongo Kong on his own.

(2) El Hijo Del Fantasma def. Braxton Sutter. Pretty much what you’d expect with Sutter trying to slow it down and work the rest holds, cheating when he could, trying to steal the pin with his feet on the ropes, etc. Fantasma wowed with hurricanranas and a nice tope con hilo, eventually getting the win with Thrill of the Hunt. Thrill of the Kill? I’m not sure.

– Sutter gets on the mic afterwards and angrily calls out Allie for ruining everyone’s lives and claims he is the biggest star in all of IMPACT Wrestling. Enter Brian Cage who came out and murdered Sutter with lariats and his ridiculous Drill Claw finisher.

– Another weekly backstage promo with Matt Sydal talking about his “third eye” and how “zen” he is because of his new spiritual mentor that’s been touching his “chi” on all the right places. Taiji Ishimori comes in and has McKenzie (the interviewer) read it. Basically Ishimori challenges Sydal for them both to put their titles on the line, saying he wants to take them both home to NOAH, and calls him a douchebag.

(3) Kongo Kong def. Joseph Park. This didn’t last long. Park sort of Hulk’d up at the end but it lasted about 10 seconds and he got squashed by Kong (literally) with a splash off the top rope.

– Jimmy Jacobs gets on the mic and asks “nicely” one more time for Abyss to come out and play. Park is half dead but still refuses to let the Monster out of its cage. They choked Park with a scarf until he passed out and Jimmy claimed they were just getting started.

Katsuyori Shibata Lands New Role in NJPW

New Japan Pro Wrestling has issued the following:

Katsuyori Shibata to be Head Coach of New Japan Dojo in Los Angeles!

On March 19, New Japan Pro-Wrestling Dojo will kick off with Spring Camp in Los Angeles, CA. Katsuyori Shibata will undertake the post of head coach of the dojo.

This is what Shibata had to say about his new position:

“With rehab and training, I’ve been sensing it’s time to move past the struggle of finding what I am capable of doing. These days, I’ve had a burning desire to take on a new challenge… What can I do in my current state? I thought a change of pace was needed, and the next thing I knew, I found myself in Los Angeles.

By some twist of fate, my thoughts happened around the time the new NJPW dojo was being set up in LA. While getting the dojo ready, I had the chance to assemble the ring with some of the young wrestlers and train with them, and I found myself doing wrestling moves I haven’t been able to do before.

These days have been full of discovery, and as I teach them things, I am learning, too. Los Angeles’ weather is great, and it would be difficult to find an environment with better conditions. As I continue with my rehabilitation and training, I have a desire to pass down the fundamentals, the know-how and techniques and the philosophy that I have built up through my own experience in pro-wrestling to the younger generation here in Los Angeles.

This is the best thing “I can do” right now, and I believe it will benefit the young wrestlers of the next generation and the wrestling world as a whole.

The good, classic Japanese pro-wrestling is starting to disappear from the current wrestling world. But we must never lose that fighting attitude and spirit of traditional Japanese pro-wrestling. I have accepted the mission to open the gates and transcend the cultural differences to pass down our knowledge to the younger generation.

As the NJPW dojo opens in Los Angeles mid-March, I wanted to share my thoughts as I announce that I, Katsuyori Shibata, will lead the LA dojo as the head coach.

That’s all I got to say!”

Additionally, Ring of Honor’s own Scorpio Sky joins camp as assistant coach.

A 17-year veteran, Sky is known for his Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, Impact Wrestling, and WWE. Starting in 2015, looking to challenge himself outside the world of Professional Wrestling, Sky competed in Mixed Martial Arts achieving a record of 4-1. In 2017 he joined the Ring Of Honor ranks and is currently a part of “Socal Uncensored” alongside Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian.

Scorpio Sky is a very explosive and unique athlete with a wealth of knowledge. The LA Dojo is proud to have him join our Spring Camp coaching team.

Brock Lesnar is a once in a lifetime athlete, it is a catchphrase that WWE loves to throw around, but it is true, there is nobody like the Beast and there likely never will be again. His star power is undeniable which is why both WWE and UFC are likely going to pull all the stops out to sign him when his current WWE deal comes to an end.

Speculation is high right now about whether Lesnar will return for one more run in the octagon or if he will extend his WWE deal after his WWE WrestleMania 34 bout with Roman Reigns, and either one offers some exciting possibilities,

But it feels like Lesnar has more to offer the wrestling world than he does MMA. Given his age and the controversy that surrounded his last fight, sticking to a part-time contract seems like the smartest deal for the Beast and there are many great matches waiting for him. His run as the Universal Champion has been one of his very best, with great matches against talents such as AJ Styles and Samoa Joe, Lesnar proved exactly how good he can be. Given WWE’s current crop of talent, there is plenty of dream matches left for Lesnar should he stick around in wrestling, and we are going to rank five of the biggest.

WWE host Peter Rosenberg was a recent guest on Booker T’s “Heated Conversations” podcast, and below are some interview highlights. The full interview can be heard at this link.

On the Women’s Elimination Chamber Match:

“I enjoyed it. I thought Alexa Bliss, with the year she has had. I want to see her have a meaningful match at WrestleMania, and now after this match we will probably see, I don’t know, but I’m hoping we will see Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax at WrestleMania. I think that is a fun story to tell. I love stories when the lines get really blurred, and that real-life friendship between Alexa and Nia is something fun to play on.”

On Ronda Rousey’s Arrival Changing the Landscape of the Women’s Division:

“I think as soon as she is ready, and I don’t think any of us know when that is, but when she is fully ready, I think all of a sudden she is the alpha of the locker room. She is one of those people where everyone in that locker room has admired her and her craft, so the fact is I am sure she has a lot of work to do, a lot of learning to do. Not only in the ring, but also on the microphone as well. At the same time, when she is ready to go it will be a complete gamechanger. I will tell you what, I saw her today, I was wondering how she was going to fit in. Is she going to have an entourage like Brock Lesnar. Brock has his own space, he doesn’t mingle with anyone, but guess what? Brock has already done this. He has already been a champion here. Ronda Rousey was in the locker room with the girls. She really wants to be a part of this. She wants to fit in here. As a fan, it warms my heart that she wants to fit in here.”

On Ronda Rousey’s Transition to WWE Life:

“When I saw her today, she is a sweetheart. She is scary; the image is scary, and the woman in the ring is scary, but as far as doing all the other stuff, to become the ‘People’s Person,’ we don’t know for sure; it is above our pay grade; I don’t know what it calls for. How much of that is she going to do? Is she just going to pop in for pay per views? Is she going to do house shows? I don’t know how much she does, but I will tell you that after spending a few minutes with her today I think she is a great person and seems like a very down to earth person.”

With two more title matches officially confirmed for WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans, we may finally have a look at the final (ish) card for this year’s Showcase of the Immortals.

There are currently twelve matches set for the show including two large battle royals, the in-ring debut of UFC icon Ronda Rousey and eight championship bouts. Given the direction of Monday Night RAW over the last two weeks it’s all but confirmed that John Cena will face the Undertaker, and The Usos are expected to defend the Smackdown Tag Team Championships against The Bludgeon Brothers. The singles match between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will more than likely become a tag team match featuring Shane McMahon and the newly cleared Daniel Bryan taking on Owens and Zayn.

That would bring the total match count for this year’s WrestleMania to fourteen, on a five hour pay-per-view with a two hour Kickoff Show. That’s more or less in line with last year’s WrestleMania 33 which featured thirteen matches in the same amount of time.

The legendary career of The Undertaker is coming to a close. It was an inevitability, as the legendary career and even more legendary character portrayed by a man known as Mark Calaway took us for a ride over the last THREE decades is truly something that will live on in our memories forever.

The Undertaker took us through some memorable moments and feuds, including his match with Mankind “inside” Hell In A Cell, his feud and ultimately retiring Mr. WrestleMania, Shawn Michaels, and being the leader of the Ministry of Darkness, and will be forever regarded as one of the best WWE Superstars that ever was.

The Undertaker is all but confirmed to be squaring off against John Cena at WrestleMania, and it can be argued that this will indeed be his last match and for some, argue that his last match should have happened years ago. With that in mind, we have ranked the top 5 superstars that SHOULD have retired The Undertaker, at WrestleMania, of course.

UFC Champion Daniel Cormier recently spoke with Instinct Culture regarding his UFC future, defending his two titles and retiring at the age of 40. On whether or not he truly intends to retire by his 40th birthday, Cormier affirmed, “I’m gonna retire by next March, so I want to fight as many times as I can before I retire…It’s over. At 40 years old I can’t be doing this anymore.”

During the interview, Cormier also revealed WWE star Seth Rollins texted him after Cormier’s confrontation with Brock Lesnar at UFC 226. Interviewer Denise Salcedo joked that footage of Daniel Cormier celebrating Seth Rollins’ Money in the Bank cash-in might be why Lesnar is upset with Cormier, and the UFC Champion had the following to say in return:

“Maybe that’s why he’s so mad at me huh? Because I’m friends with Seth Rollins. I got a text message from Seth right after the fight. He goes, ‘congratulations, now go kick Brock’s ass.’ And that’s what I’m gonna do.”

Cormier was also asked his opinion of UFC/MMA fans who are vocal in their dislike of WWE, and vice versa, and Cormier offered the following response:

“Everybody’s entitled to their opinion. Just because you like one does not mean you can’t like the other. I think we both have very passionate fanbases, that’s why you see people on one side so mad or people on the other side so mad. All just come together and buy the PPV, that’s all I want”.

Cormier went on to say that the shoving altercation with Lesnar at UFC 226 felt to him like he was having a WrestleMania moment, and you can watch more in the above video player.
