Survivor Tony Marrero To Attend Tribute In The Impact Zone
For Immediate Release
July 2, 2017

GFW/Impact Wrestling presents “Remembering Pulse Nightclub, 1 Year Later” on Monday, July 3, at The Impact Zone on the backlot of Universal Studios Florida.  The ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m., before taping begins for an upcoming episode of IMPACT on Pop TV.
GFW/Impact Wrestling is celebrating its 15-year anniversary, and the vast majority of the events and matches over that stretch have been held in Orlando.  GFW/IMPACT Wrestling did not have any events in Orlando in June 2016, so to mark the one-year, which was on Monday, June 12, 2017, company officials chose the first Monday when GFW/IMPACT Wrestling was back in Orlando for the tribute.
In the early-morning hours of June 12, 2016, a lone gunman killed 49 people inside Pulse Nightclub, making it both the deadliest mass shooting by a single shooter and the deadliest incident of violence against LGBT people in U.S. history.

The world cried, including GFW/IMPACT Wrestling, as Orlando is our home, too.  Pulse Nightclub is about a 20-minute drive from The Impact Zone.
To honor the victims and survivors, GFW/IMPACT Wrestling on July 3 will place rainbow-colored ribbons on 49 chairs inside The Impact Zone, one for each victim.
Plus, GFW/IMPACT Wrestling is honored to welcome Tony Marrero, an Orlando resident and Pulse Nightclub survivor.  Tony went to the club that Sunday night with his best friend, Luis.  Tony was shot four times in the back and once in the arm.  Miraculously, Tony survived, despite incredible loss of blood and nearly dying en route to the hospital.
Luis did not survive.
Tony has been a guest multiple times on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and once was surprised by an appearance from singer Katy Perry, as it was Perry’s song “Rise” that was his motivation to keep fighting during rehabilitation.
“The Pulse Nightclub tragedy affected everyone, especially all of us at GFW/IMPACT Wrestling as Orlando is our second home, having spent so many nights here over the past 15 years,” said Jeff Jarrett, the founder and current Chief Creative Officer for GFW/IMPACT Wrestling.  “Tony’s story brings tears, but it also carries hope, courage and strength.  We are truly honored that Tony is part of GFW/IMPACT Wrestling’s ‘Remembering Pulse Nightclub, 1 Year Later.’”

On the most recent episode of Monday Night Raw, General Manager Kurt Angle’s storyline was furthered along when Raw announcer Corey Graves received another incriminating text message. When Graves showed Angle the message, Angle was horrified about may happen if it were to be released to the public. Despite this, Angle decided that he was going to put an end to the drama outright, and he will reveal the details of the mystery texts that he has been receiving on the next episode of Raw. This storyline between Graves and Angle has been going on for a while now, and next Monday will be the time for the big reveal at last.
The biggest belief in all of this is that this will pave the way for Kurt Angle to make his in-ring return for the company. Most fans believe that this will lead to the return of Stephanie McMahon. McMahon hasn’t been seen in WWE programming ever since she was inadvertently put though a table by her husband Triple H at Wrestlemania. This could lead to the aforementioned Triple H making his return to television as well, likely leading to match between Angle and Triple H. One of WWE’s biggest shows of the year is just around the corner. Could we be seeing the match at SummerSlam in Brooklyn this August? It certainly seems like a definite possibility.
A few other fans have speculated that the person involved in the storyline could turn out to be Dixie Carter due to her appearance on the recent Kurt Angle: Homecoming documentary on the WWE Network. That is not likely though as Carter still remains an advisor for Anthem Sports & Entertainment. Another key detail is that Angle was seen speaking with someone on the phone at the end of the show. Kurt claimed that the reveal could cost him his family, and he asked the person to join him when he reveals the news next week. He finished his phone call by adding “I love you,” and then hanging up. Whatever happens, we will finally have our answer on Monday Night Raw next week.

WWE NXT Results – July 19th, 2017

August 1, 2020 | News | No Comments

Alright, we’re back with another round of results from the latest edition of NXT. This week’s show featured some good matches, but more importantly, it kicked off the buildup to NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III. We still have a while to go before the big show arrives next month, but we already know what the main event of the live special will be. The spot to face Bobby Roode was on the line in a match between Drew McIntyre and SAnitY’s Killian Dain, but more on that later. Let’s get into the results.
Ember Moon vs. Ruby Riot –
This match was actually pretty even for the most part. Ruby and Ember are both being positioned as worthy challengers to the title, so it made sense for the loser here to not come out looking like a complete buffoon. They both went back and fourth with some strikes and kicks as the Full Sail crowd enthusiastically chanted “Women’s Wrestling!” Stupid crowd. Anyway, Ruby actually worked over Moon for most of the middle portions of the match. Eventually though, Moon got the better of her thanks to one particularly devastating punch. She went up top and hit the Eclipse for the win. Not much else to it than that, though I wonder if they’re setting Ember up for something bigger down the road…

Winner: Ember Moon
Kassius Ohno was backstage speaking with some interviewers about… something. Hideo Itami barged in and was furious when he received news that he will be facing Ohno next week. Kassius said that he was going to take matter into his own hands after the way Itami’s been acting lately, which led to Hideo angrily kicking a trash can and storming out.
Performance Center standouts The Street Profits will be debuting on the show soon. I believe that this makes them the third tag team on NXT right now.
Oney Lorcan vs. Danny Burch –

If you remember Danny Burch from the UK tournament (or some of the NXT shows that he has been on since then), then you know exactly what he’s capable of. Oney Lorcan is obviously known as a tough brawler who will mess you up. So this match basically delivered on what it promised: two hard-hitting and brutal fighters just absolutely mauling each other.
Again, this also started out pretty evenly matched. The first big move came when Buch hit a Tower of London from the top of one of the posts. Lorcan later retaliated by hitting a European Uppecut to Burch as he was lying down on the floor, this caused Burch’s nose to burst open with blood. They traded slaps and punches before Burch clotheslined Oney and powerbombed him for a near fall. Lorcan eventually decided to apply a single leg crab which got him the submission victory.
As Lorcan’s music played, he held out his hand for a handshake. Burch accepted his offer, but later pulled Lorcan back as he was trying to leave. He was audibly asking Lorcan for one more match. The crowd was very much into this idea and I can’t say that I blame them. Lorcan seemingly accepted before leaving the arena. If their rematch is anything like this, it will definitely be slobberknocker, so to speak.

Winner: Oney Lorcan
No Way Jose vs. Cezar Bononi –
Before this match began, we were shown a video reminding us that Bononi actually picked up a win over Andrade “Cien” Almas just a few months back. Well Almas is certainly one tough opponent, but Bononi, like so many others before him, was not prepared for the challenge that lied in front of him. The name of that challenge: No Way Jose.
Repeatedly during this match, Bononi hit a few basic strikes and punches that the commentators would refer to as “Muay ThaI punches.” Aside from that, there wasn’t much to write home about with this match. Jose cleaned his clock for a few minutes before winning with a pop-up punch and heading towards the back.
Suddenly, Andrade “Cien” Almas and his unnamed mystery lady (Thea Trinidad) randomly showed up at ringside. Almas beat down Bononi very quickly. Almas pointed to Jose while the latter was watching on the stage. Jose finally charged after Almas, but Andrade left the ring and headed towards the back before Jose could get his big revenge.
Winner: No Way Jose
Drew McIntyre vs. Killian Dain –
This was a match against two individuals who are (or were) undefeated in singles competition on NXT. The winner here was going to go on to face Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship in the main event of NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III. The match began with a lockup that eventually devolved into a series of punches between both men. McIntyre delieved a forearm from the middle of one of the posts. From this point forward, a great deal of the match was focused on making Killain Dain look unstoppable. Dain concentrated all of his efforts on to smashing and trying to press down on McIntyre.
These presses and holds did get Dain a couple of near falls, and they were actually some pretty close near falls at that. As Dain positions McIntyre on one of the posts for some sort of maneuver, McIntyre shoves him and begins to gain back some momentum. He jumps off the post, runs around until he gives Dain a clothesline that sends himself to the floor, but he kips back up immediately afterwards. With the crowd behind him now, McIntyre goes for his Claymore Kick finisher, but Dain managed to reverse it. At first McIntyre was just simply unable to connect any of his big moves on Dain.
Next, Dain got Drew up for a Fireman’s Carry and he slammed him down to the floor. Then he headed up towards the middle turnbuckle and hit a Vader Bomb on McIntyre for a two count. He tried to hit the Ulster Plantation but Drew fought out of it and tried to hit the Future Shock DDT. Again, Drew wasn’t able to hit it and he nearly got pinned by Dain. After Killian hit Drew with a Fisherman’s Superplex from the top of one of the posts, Dain got another very close near fall out of it. Finally, Drew hit the DDT which caused Dain to kick out at one. This shocked the announcers tremendously. McIntyre then hit a Claymore kick for another one count. Drew just decided to, you guessed it, hit another big finishing move. After hitting a second Claymore Kick, he finally managed to slay the beast.
Winner: Drew McIntyre
That’s right! Your main event at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III is now going to be Drew McIntyre challenging Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship. The match definitely succeeded in making Dain look like a nearly unstoppable killing machine, so whatever he does next will probably be something important. Next week we know that Hideo Itami and Kassius Ohno will finally have their big one-on-one matchup. Who will be victorious? Come on back here next week and I’ll tell ya, k? I’ll see you NXT time!

Speculation towards a possible Jon Jones/Brock Lesnar fight has been spreading more and more ever since the fight was first teased after Jones’ victory at UFC 214. As mentioned before, Brock Lesnar is still expected to fulfill his WWE contract, and he also must serve the remainder of his USADA suspension as well. Regardless, it does certainly seem like the fight will be happening sometime next year. Lesnar has allegedly even taken steps to reenter the USADA testing pool very soon. WWE commented on the interaction between Lesnar and Jones recently, and a when a fan asked Jones if he would be attending the SummerSlam show to watch Lesnar, “Bones” responded with the following:

It’s crossed my mind https://t.co/xlnbywH1y2

Scott Dawson of The Revival received some bad news when he tore his bicep which may need surgery to repair. It is still unclear how long both he and Dash Wilder are expected to be out for, but the Wrestling Observer Newsletter now reports that Dawson arrived for TV this past Monday night and was examined by doctors. He should known later on this week if he will be needing surgery or not. Dave Meltzer says that he believes the injury occurred during this past Sunday’s live event. He does not know exactly how it happened, but Meltzer does assume that the injury was a complete accident and “a total fluke.”
Alberto El Patron became one of the most controversial figures in all of wrestling today when he was accused of domestic violence at an Orlando airport earlier this year. Global Force Wrestling took action by suspending Patron indefinitely after the incident. Weeks later, it was determined that Patron’s fiancee Paige was actually the one who should be investigated for the incident, and Patron has since been cleared of any possible charges. Despite this, he still remains suspended by his employer and he even missed their recent live events in New York. PWInsider is now reporting that the plan is to have Patron return to television on the company’s live Destination X special next week.

The former British spy behind a controversial dossier about Donald Trump’s Russian links has spent two days talking to US investigators, it was reported on Wednesday.

Christopher Steele met behind closed doors with colleagues of Robert Mueller, the special counsel looking into Russian election meddling, according to The Washington Post.

It means that investigators will be able to judge firsthand whether they think claims reported by Mr Steele in the dossier are trustworthy.

Mr Steele has previously refused requests to appear before Congressional committees looking into how Russia interfered in the 2016 election.

The Washington Post also reported that Mr Steele compared possessing the information he found about Mr Trump to “sitting on a nuclear weapon”.

The paper’s 4,000-word article provides the fullest picture yet of how Mr Steele acted after uncovering claims that the Russians had compromising material on Mr Trump.

Former FBI Director Robert Mueller is leading the Russia investigationCredit:

Mr Steele and his “dossier”, a series of memos written after funding from first Republican then Democrat opponents of Mr Trump, lies at the heart of the Russian election meddling row.

Among the claims made was that Mr Trump asked prostitutes to conduct lurid sex acts while in Russia. Mr Trump has vehemently denied the allegations.

The dossier, published after the election by Buzzfeed, has become the focus of a fiercely partisan battle over the Russian investigation, which is looking into links with the Trump campaign team.

Republicans have sought to portray Mr Steele as politically motivated and his claims as unfounded, indicating the entire Russian investigation is constructed on his faulty intelligence.

However Democrats have painted Mr Steele as someone who passed on concerns in good faith and stressed his information was not the only reason for starting the Russia investigation.

Profile | Christopher Steele

The Washington Post described how Mr Steele, a Russian expert so trusted that he had provided briefings for UK prime ministers and at least one US president, got drawn into the Trump case.

It describes how after Mr Steele’s consulting firm Orbis Business Intelligence was commissioned to look into Mr Trump he became increasingly concerned by the discoveries, coming from his network of informants.

Mr Steele eventually reached out to the FBI, who he had worked with exposing Fifa corruption, so he could brief them on what he found.

He met with the Washington Post twice before the election in an attempt to get them to cover the claims, the second time appearing “visibly agitated".

Richard Dearlove, the former head of MI6, met Mr Steele and his colleague at London’s Garrick Club, where Mr Steele reportedly expressed his worries.

Sir Andrew Wood, a British former diplomat and friend of Mr Steele, was also asked for his thoughts. “He wanted to share the burden a bit,” Mr Wood told The Washington Post.

After Mr Trump won the election, an ally of John McCain, the Republican senator, visited Britain to meet Mr Steele and read the dossier for himself.

He was reportedly told to "look for a man wearing a blue raincoat and carrying a Financial Times under his arm” at Heathrow Airport. A copy of the dossier was eventually passed to Mr McCain.

Violent brawls broke out in Uganda’s parliament on Tuesday as lawmakers debated a controversial bill that would allow President Yoweri Museveni to extend his 31-year rule.

The bill under consideration would remove a constitutional 75-year-old age limit for presidential candidates. Mr Museveni is 73, and therefore is not eligible to run for re-election in 2021 polls under the current law.

Mr Museveni’s critics fiercely oppose the law. Tuesday’s scuffle took place after opposition lawmakers said they found plates and utensils in the parliamentary building, proof, they said, that soldiers had been watching the proceedings. Six opposition lawmakers were suspended after the disruption.

The last time the bill was debated in September, protesters marched in the streets and blows were also exchanged in parliament, with several MPs landing in the hospital after they were allegedly attacked by state security in plainclothes, according to the BBC.

Hours after Zimbabwe’s former President Robert Mugabe resigned following a coup in November, Mr Museveni announced that he would be considering pay rises for the military.

On a recent edition of The Steve Austin Show podcast, Stone Cold and Jim Ross discussed a number of current WWE happenings.
During the podcast, Austin expressed disappointment about WWE not utilizing Shinsuke Nakamura to his full capabilities. Austin went on to say Nakamura’s work in Japan is a lot better than his work with the WWE, and that WWE creative is booking Nakamura like another “Joe Blow.”
Here’s Stone Cold’s take:

“You bring him over and he’s going 30-minute broadways with half the damn roster. Debuted down there in WrestleMania 32, NXT, with Sami Zayn, hell of a match. Hell of a match! A lot of credit to Sami Zayn and Shinsuke, but here’s The King of Strong Style and all of a sudden he comes in and he’s working Dolph (Ziggler) and it took him a long time to finish Dolph for The King of Strong Style. Do you understand where I’m going with this gimmick? That’s booking, though. What is the plan? You’ve got this guy who’s one of those talents that just don’t come around every single day. He’s special. He comes in and you treat him like he’s another Joe Blow.”
J.R. admitted he’s been disappointed as well with the handling of the Brock Lesnar-Samoa Joe feud. Ross suggested that if he were in charge that he would have saved a match between current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe for WrestleMania.
Here’s what Ross said:
“If I was booking WWE or if I had influence on the booking of WWE, or whatever, my WrestleMania main event would be Joe and Brock and I would build it and by the time we got there, people would be going crazy to see it. For a guy like me, at my stage of life, that’s the fountain of youth because that’s back to old school, two tough, legit tough son-of-a-b****** that aren’t out there playing a role of a pro wrestler, locking up like two invalids. Locking up like two men, like two athletes of any gender.”

Here’s a link to the podcast:

The WWE has been rejected in its effort to trademark the Hardy’s names and property likeness by the US Patent and Trademark Office.  Both Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy were rejected by the office after documents were submitted but lacked either Hardy’s signature of consent for either name. It is reported that the WWE responded with the Hardy’s signed consent.
Also, Matt Hardy was rejected because of the ongoing dispute with Global Force Wrestling over who owns the right to the name “Broken” Matt Hardy. Hardy himself has filed for his own copyright on the name and until that application is processed, the WWE’s claim can not be processed.
The term “The Hardy Boyz” seems to be going forward and will be published for public opposition, meaning someone else could file a dispute about the name as well.

In an interesting bit of irony, the WWE itself was nearly sued in recent months when they used the Great Balls of Fire name without permission from Jerry Lee Lewis, to the point where Lewis was attempting to file suit, but a deal was reached where they not only got permission to use the name but the song as well.
