One of the most dedicated forces to promoting wrestling globally is from Minnesota. No, he doesn’t live there now, but LeSueur native Bill May has been steadily churning out news, notes and rankings for nearly four decades.

May, who wrestled at St. Thomas and for the Minnesota Wrestling Club, left the U.S. decades ago and has been one of the most knowledgable wrestling journalists in the world. His career has taken him to numerous Olympic Games and World Championships and on Episode 30 of The Guillotine Grapevine, May will explain his journey from Minnesota to Japan to his home now in the Czech Republic.

Bill’s a fun guy and is one of the world’s top experts on women’s wrestling. We’ll look at things beyond the sport and how the Helen Maroulis gold medal changed women’s wrestling.

As previously reported, WWE announced that Dean Ambrose will not be renewing his contract with the company once his contract ends in April. Ambrose reportedly turned down a five-year deal that was worth over seven-figures per year. Since the news broke, wrestlers outside of WWE (Joey Ryan, Sami Callihan & Jimmy Havoc) have commented on Ambrose’s eventual exit. Callihan was Ambrose’s former tag team partner during their time on the indies.

If Dean Ambrose hates hokey shit, he’s gonna love the first indie to book him vs. me.

On Tuesday, the WWE rounded out the field for the Elimination Chamber Women’s Tag Team Championship match by making former SmackDown Women’s Champions Naomi and Carmella as the last team among the group of six.
SmackDown will also be represented by the IIconics and Sonya Deville & Mandy Rose. Given the storyline heat between Rose and Naomi expect some fireworks from them during the match at Toyota Center in Housong on February 17. Interestingly enough, none of the SmackDown teams had to qualify since the other top members of the Blue Brand women’s division – Champion Asuka, Charlotte Flair and now suspended Becky Lynch are otherwise busy. On the RAW side, overwhelming favorites Sasha Banks & Bayley, Riott Squad’s Liv Morgan & Sarah Logan and Nia Jax & Tamina each had to win qualifying matches to enter the field.
You can watch the video announcement and promo from Naomi and Carmella below:

You can check out the first teaser for CM Punk’s new horror movie, Girl On The Third Floor, in the video below. Filming of the movie wrapped up last September and it is scheduled to have it’s premiere at The SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas next month.

Punk plays the lead role of Don Koch, below is the synopsis:

For years Don Koch has skated by on charm and charisma, until it nearly landed him in jail. He now views fixing up an old house as a chance to make up for past mistakes. Meanwhile, his wife, Liz Koch, is concerned about the renovation timeline as they have a baby on the way. With all this pressure it’s no wonder Don responds to the flirtations of an attractive stranger. As Don tears the house apart, it begins to tear him apart as well, revealing the rot behind the drywall.
The movie also stars Trieste Dunn, Elissa Dowling & Newcomer Sarah Brooks. There will be screenings for the movie at The SXSW festival on March 10th, 12th & 15th, you can get more details here.
Girl On The Third Floor is not the only horror movie in Punk’s pipeline. As previously reported, Punk will be starring with wife AJ Lee in the horror film Rabid, which is a remake of The 1977 David Cronenberg movie of the same name. The movie is being written & directed by The Soska Twins, who also directed several movie for WWE Studios including See No Evil 2 starring Kane.
AJ Lee shared the look of her character in Rabid in this Instagram post last August:

Meet Kira and her resting douche face. Just got to shoot my part in the @SoskaSisters horror movie #Rabid! I am in awe of what brilliant, hilarious, loving, talented leaders Jen and Sylv Soska are. It was an honor to be a teeny part of a project with female writers/directors, a female director of photography, female camera operators, a badass female lead, and a story showcasing a ride or die female friendship. I am beyond inspired and my heart is full of joy. Even though I look suuuper pissed.

Dylan Anderson, Alex Crowe, and Bailee O’Reilly all claimed first place in their respective weights, while Brenn Olson rebounded from a first-round loss with four straight pins to claim third place.

After a bye in the first round, Anderson won a decision over Austin Rake of St. Cloud State 11-7 to move on to the semifinals. Anderson followed that victory with a pin at 3:48 against David Murphy of Northern State to advance to the finals. He saved his best performance of the day for his final match, pinning his opponent at 1:20 to claim the 184 bracket.

In a TMZ ambush interview, top WWE star John Cena kind of said he would donate his brain to research after he dies to study the effects of concussions.

The awkward conversation produced a dry, general answer to a question on whether he would donate his brain to CTE research like other wrestlers such as Kevin Nash and Mick Foley.

“If I could do something after I exist to help the existence of mankind to come, yeah I think I might,” Cena told TMZ at a restaurant in the Los Angeles area.

On a less serious note, Cena was asked about rumors that he was going to have a match with or against pop star Justin Bieber. “It didn’t happen,” Cena said. He said he would still fight with him or against him if things worked out for a match.
